Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm thinking about upgrading my 993 to possibly a 996 cab (wife will like). I do about 3-5 / year. Any thoughts? Don't bite...hard.

POST 2Original post

I bought one new in 01 and track about 15 days a year, I'd buy one again. For safety's sake I would consider a spec roll bar, mine is removable. I'd also make sure you get the hardtop, realizing the questionable value if you are in a roll-over situation, but it does provide a sense of security to myself and others. However, as you may have already been told, if there is any chance you will become a serious track junkie, a cab is not the way to go for many reasons, weight being just one of them...all IMO..

POST 3Original post

The owner of TracQuest drives a 996 Cabriolet himself.

POST 4Original post

I have no problem tracking my Cab. I even do it with the top down!

POST 5Original post

I've tracked my '99 cab for the 5 years I've had it, but only do 2-3 events each year. I definitely would never take it to the track without the hardtop. With that, and the built-in pop-up roll protectors, I have a minimal sense of security. But your best bet, as was pointed out already, is a roll bar. I think there's at least one model roll bar that is fairly easily removable. Keep in mind that with a cab you'll have a weight penalty over other 996's. And, if you use the hardtop, you'll have even more of a penalty. In my case, that gives me an incentive to be a better driver than the other guys, and it works pretty well -- but not all the time! ;-) Of course, one way to get over the weight penalty is to add a supercharger, but that's a different thread... =Carlos=
