I had requested one about 6-8 weeks ago (used a company addy), but never rec'd it.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

At startup, and idling, I have to say there is NO difference at all.
Hi all.
This thread has caught my eye:
https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...hlight=niagara
I've been considering the K&N filter, but following the notes on here and other sites, it looks like it's more trouble than it's worth. A quick and cheap alternative seems to be the quick mod described above. It allegedly gives some sound improvement, which is the main thing I'd be interested in. The 996 is great, but sounds a bit flat to me -esp' after my old TVR....
The only problem is that you can't get those Orange cap/sample things posted to the UK... I could try and make my own, but I was wondering if any of your US guys have a spare one that they'd be willing to post to me in the UK? According to the thread above it sounds like the company sent everyone 2 samples - so in theory, there should be orange caps lurking on garage shelves across the States?!
Of course I'd happily pay for the postage costs (paypal would be easiest I suppose.)
Thanks
Jon
That is too funny!
WTF, I must be slipping!!!
He has 4 posts and no pics yet?!?!?! I have to admit, I really haven't been on "Pic Patrol" lately. THAT'S gotta change!
OK, no pics... no Orange Cap! And if the car is dirty, I could "dirty up" the Orange Cap before I send it!
That's funny! I hope you deem my car worthy. They are / were kept lovely and clean at all times!
You've actually motivated me to work put how to post pics. So... I've put up pics of not just my current 996, but also my previous 968 and the TVR Griffith prior to that
All here:

& I think this will include the actual images too...
My 996
My 968
& my Griff 500
Have I redeemed myself now?!!!!!!
Cheers guys
Tom - that works for me! I just figured after reading his "Ppppppppppppplllllleeeeeaaaaaassssssseeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!" request, he REALLY wanted one very badly! Thanks!
Ok now...am I being left out??
I've just only heard of this Orange plug...how can I get one without begging some nice guy to remove his for me?
I tried to check out the install pics posted by that banned "Ghost Rider" guy, but seems the link's no longer working.
Jon,
Sorry for the delay. I will try to get that in the mail tomorrow. Don't worry about the paypal thing. I have been the recipient in the past from other generous members that I'm happy to pass it on. Rennlist is the best. Maybe a membership is in your future?
Tom
Tom,
I now have the cap, and put it in today (5 mins of a job.) I'm very happy with the results!
The real difference is above ~3700 revs where there is a noticeably louder engine note. That said, in all revs there is a throatier note when the engine is under labour.
For a 5 min exercise and a simple piece of plastic, this really is an excellent modification. The difference is not massive, but it's certainly noticeable. The car now sounds as I thought it always should have sounded, rather than the (frustrating) quiet dull note.
Many thanks again for your generosity in taking the time to send me the cap!
Cheers all
Jon
Has anybody received a "sample" orange cap lately?
I had requested one about 6-8 weeks ago (used a company addy), but never rec'd it. Luckily, Patric had included a similiar widget when I purchased his CAI.
I think that they may have gotten wise to us
I was thinking the same, I ordered some time back, nothing yet.
Just re-ordered again a few days back, see what happens.
I think they got fed-up with all the 911 orders!!
What are the exact dimensions? I work in aviation and my company has caps like that laying around. I just need the biggest part of the O.D. I could go out and measure but if someone knows off the top of their head, that would be great. Now I am really curious about the sound.
Let me look around tonight for those of you interested...I think I have 3 of these things laying around. paypal me a couple of bucks and I'll ship them to you.
PM me if you're interested...I think I have 3 total so the first ones to PM me get dibbs.
BTW. I operate a small detailing business in in my request I put my business name and that I was looking to use them for repackaging of detailing supplies and they were to my door in less than a week.
Andy
Hmmm...I am going to one up the requests...and really ask for a lot!!!
who has an extra orange cap to spare...as well as....
HELP ME INSTALL IT?
The pics looks easy..but I am kinda technically challenged and would hate to do this wrong and mess something up.
I can buy ya lunch/coffee for helping a brother out! So Cal peeps? Anyone? Have some sympathy for a newbie?
in the meantime..I will go and try to order some from Niagara now -
Oh dear ... look what I've started: a market in old orange caps!!
AsianImage - If you can turn a screw driver, you can install this thing - it's v easy. It seems the main issue is getting hold of one of these holy-grail bits of plastic.
Jon
I am pretty sure they caught onto this as I was getting calls months later from their sales rep. I politely informed him that it would fit my application.
BTW..I have an extra..PM me if you want it
You can always make your own.
I made mine from electrical tape and the cap from WD40.
Worked great and the sound was better from 4-6 grand.
I found away to make even more "good sound" by removing the sound deading material that is below the rear window against the very back.
Makes the engine sound 3x as good and found there to be no increase in road noise.
Removing the sound deading material was the best mod yet. It's free too
I installed the famous orange cap and tried it out today.
I have to be honest, I was trying hard to hear a difference.
At startup, and idling, I have to say there is NO difference at all.
Maybe on the higher revs, like what everyone claims, at 4-5000rpm,
there MAY be a slight improvement in the sound.
I'm a sceptical person, and only believe in absolute certainty.
So, it could be my mind wanting to believe it does sound better.
Or if it's for real, then it only sounds a tiny little better.
Afterall, if you think about it, the modded sound would be coming
from the airbox in the engine, not from the exhaust.
I knew there couldn't be anything that good for free!
Some members actually call it a free PSE mod...
