Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that contain suggestions
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
The regular 355hp 997S comes with horrible headers from the factory that uses a narrow merge collector that is far more restrictive that standard 3.6L (aka 996 X51) headers.
Leading evidence: 'Use narrow merge collector' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use narrow merge collector' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It is all about air flow...stock headers are nice and short. You may port & polish the stock headers, but will not get much, if anything, from aftermarket headers
Headers work depending on brand, ecu works depending on brand, intake works etc, exhaust works etc. Most of the guys giving advice have never tried. My car is noticeably faster after the modifications than prior. It is faster against other cars as well. I'd like to learn more about the cams, which I'm sure work when right. or the throttle body, or the pressure regulator???
I thought the same thing when I bolted all that crap on my '99. It sounded way better and in some places the throttle response was a little sharper...but it's all psychological, it's a tuner mind **** (and money grab). There's not all this hidden power in your motor that Porsche forgot about. The ECU will make the biggest difference and any gains there come at the expense of drivability, reliability & longevity. There's no free lunch. Even doing before & after pulls on the same dyno can easily be manipulated to show phantom results.
If that's your thing, buy a turbo where you can make some real hp gains with mods.
Go check out fabspeed website. The 997S headers were worst looking in design for flow then the stock 996. However speaking to many tuners they have said there is not much to be gained from headers. FWIW I did have the schnell headers on my car and notice very little performance gains. Mostly the engine gained some at the top end. I am willing to sell them as I took them out as I did not like then extra sound. PM if you interested.
You will most likely LOOSE HP from doing this. The regular 355hp 997S comes with horrible headers from the factory that uses a narrow merge collector that is far more restrictive that standard 3.6L (aka 996 X51) headers. Check out the video on Fabspeed's website for more info on this.
In fact, the 3.8l X51 option comes with improved headers that are almost identical to the 3.6l headers, except slightly larger in diameter. The 3.8l X51 has different heads that have unique bolt patterns for the intake and exhaust manifolds that are not compatible with other models.
There is little to be gained from headers on a 3.6l, but it is a different story on a 3.4l. The earlier cars had more restrictive headers. You will notice that whenever a manufacturer shows a dyno sheet for gain with headers it is always on a 3.4l and not a 3.6l for this reason.
