Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

You can minimize this by letting the car "cool down" by letting it run for a couple of minutes after a hard run.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Attended DE, and at the start of the third session, at startup, had a substantial amount of smoke from exhaust before it cleared. Happened again at the start of the fourth session startup. Drove back from DE without issues. Do I have to worry? Should I get my baby checked out? Thanks. MY02 C2 Tip, 19.8K miles...

POST 2Original post

That is common after a hard run. You can minimize this by letting the car "cool down" by letting it run for a couple of minutes after a hard run. This "cool down" period allows the oil to settle back into the pan and minimizes smoke on the next start up. Sorry, but I don't recall the technical explination for the exact cause. I don't want to give you the wrong or incomplete answer to the cause of the smoke. Maybe someone else will chime in here shortly.

POST 4Original post

Haha...looking back at myself, that is a typical new Porsche owner's complaint, and concern! (But I see you've been around!) If you do a search, you will get a good read on the topic. Also search on renntech. I listened to advice from fellow members here, kept my oil at just a tad under the max line, I've never seen white smoke again in my rear view mirror on hard acceleration (esp after a hard corner). And since the new lower oil level, only once have I seen white smoke on first startup. Even that once, it lasted only a few seconds. So heed the Porsche Gods here, like I did and you will be fine!

POST 5Original post

Yea, been there done that. Like others have said, not an uncommon occurance. Since I have not topped off to the top with oil during a DE event I have not had a problem. Rennlist rules...

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks everyone! Now that worry is gone, time to enjoy driving it again, with a tad less oil at DE or AX next time. I've had 944 before, drove it for ~220K miles, but never tracked it. With 996, I'll have to enjoy hard driving some more.
