Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Plus they say that they always changed the oil in their 49 Ford at 3000 miles, so there!
Leading evidence: 'Replace oil in their 49 ford at 3000 miles' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean products' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

That is until I had the oil from a 15K drain tested by a reputable lab.

What about the "time" component of recommended change intervals.

Suggestion
I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on these claims that wasting money and oil was a good thing, and that I was doomed to self destruction by running my oil to the 15K interval.

Suggestion
The luddites would argue that it's too scary to run the oil interval to 15K because its too hot or dusty, they drive fast, or because the monster under the bed told them to.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just wanted to know how often you guys change your oil and filter. I know Porsche recommends 2yrs or 15,000. What should i do i am going in for Fabspeed install
this week
Thanks
10k which is about 1.5 yr for me. Oil came out still good for another 3-5k mi. A lot of my driving is on freeway so that's less stress on the engine oil.
It depends on my driving conditions. When I lived in Vegas I changed it EVERY 5K since I tracked the car several times a season AND the weather was very hot and dusty. But here in Carolina I plan on every 7.5K or 1 yr whichever comes first.
The luddites would argue that it's too scary to run the oil interval to 15K because its too hot or dusty, they drive fast, or because the monster under the bed told them to. Plus they say that they always changed the oil in their 49 Ford at 3000 miles, so there! But when pressed, none have any actual empirical data to back up their waste of money and lubricant.
I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on these claims that wasting money and oil was a good thing, and that I was doomed to self destruction by running my oil to the 15K interval. That is until I had the oil from a 15K drain tested by a reputable lab. Turns out that the Mobil 1 fill that was in the engine had the same viscosity, composition, etc. at 15K that it did at 0K. i.e. the oil was still good as new. but don't believe my radical propositions, have your own oil tested and see for yourself.
So why change it at all, much less 1 year or 15K miles? Primarily environment and moisture. Eventually the oil will lose its additives and its viscosity, etc. The start stop cycle of an automobile will allow moisture to accumulate in the crankcase even in a closed-loop system like todays automobiles.
If one needs further proof that the factory change interval is safe, look no further than the american trucking industry. Oil in diesel trucks will sometimes go 100K miles before it is changed, and it is the same stuff that goes in the Porsche.
So in the end while there is nothing harmful with changing oil at some ridiculously low mileage, it is just a waste of money and resources. It is sort of like changing your tires every 1000 miles.
An extra $50 (since I DIY my own oil) between 15K intervals (since I do mine every 7.5K) is pretty good insurance "in case" the heat, dirt, and extreme track conditions I expose the car to break it down faster.
Speaking of wasting money and resources..........what do you spend on cleaning products?
Just giving you a hard time b/c I wish I could just get the exterior of my car to look as good as the underside of your car
What about the "time" component of recommended change intervals. For those of us who don't drive these cars daily, it can take 2-3 YEARS to hit 7.5K. I know the easy solution to that is to drive more, but can oil last that long?
I don't spend a dime. I have had every major supplier of waxes and polishes calling me to offer me stuff to use for free.
Sometimes I feel like a rock star. And a clean one at that!
A car that is driven this infrequently, can have quite a bit of moisture buildup in all of the fluids, gas, oil, brake, and PS. If the moisture is not boiled off, then it will create corrosive compounds in the fluids. In addition, seals and other materials can either dry out, or get a "set" in them that will cause them to fail prematurely.
This is why there is a time component to fluid changes. A very low mileage 5-year old car can be in worse shape over time than a 5-year old car that is driven 15-20K miles a year simply because of natural deterioration.
