Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Luckily I installed the water proof box for the ecu a while back.

First thing you need is the $75 PIWIS because you have already done all the simple/easy to test/check stuff...

Could be you just need to clean the drain path which is accessible behind the rear speaker or panel on the passenger side.

The drains in the Cab run from the rear to a trough behind the panel with the rear speakers and from the trough thru a tube that ends behind the rear wheel fender liner.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys I have been letting my 2002 996 sit for about 6 months while we have been busy building our house. I moved it yesterday to the new house to put it in my basement. The old house didn't have a garage. The reason I mention that is the was some water in the passenger back floor board so apparently the top has started to leak. Luckily I installed the water proof box for the ecu a while back. My battery was dead and after replacing it my airbag light is now on not sure if that could have anything to do with it. The convertible top will not do anything. My windows roll up and down as they should, all the locks work, trunk release and front truck. I has tested to make sure the fuses are all good which they were. I have checked to make sure the parking brake light comes on and off like it should. Tried to open it with the key and I can hear a faint sound maybe from the switches on the sides of the top for the flaps but nothing happens anywhere. The windows I know are they first thing to move and they do not. Any ideas where I should check now? I open and shut the rear truck multiple times as well. I don't know where or how to test the microswitches or if that could possible cause it since the windows don't even move.
Is it worth taking the switch out since it isn't working with the key? Anyone know how to test the engine bay latch? I saw someone say nothing would happen if that was open
It seems you may have a leak on the passenger side. Could be you just need to clean the drain path which is accessible behind the rear speaker or panel on the passenger side.
Your rear drains are completely clogged. The drains in the Cab run from the rear to a trough behind the panel with the rear speakers and from the trough thru a tube that ends behind the rear wheel fender liner. You have to remove the fender liner to access the tube. Porsche put a grate at the end of the tube and that is why debris builds up and clogs, Take out the grate and throw it in the trash. You may be able to clear it from the end.
It won't fix the cab top but the water in the rear may be why the airbag light is on. The side airbag sensor is in the door sill so it is susceptible to flooding if the rear floor is wet.
Does the dash light for the top blink when you're trying to operate it? If not I would bet it's the fuse even though you said you checked. Try operating the side mirrors with the button. They share the same fuse as the top. If they don't move it's the 7.5 amp fuse in B5 that's the problem.
is the PIWS a diametric tool? I was thinking about getting that it looked like they are $285 is the $75 something different?
Check the fuse and its good but replaced it with another for ****s and giggles but still nothing. The light does not flash or illuminate. Also the mirrors both work
I know you said the horn will honk but I thought it always honked when you lock and unlock. Please correct me if I am wrong. I am getting one honk when it locks then the lights dim and go off then two when I unlock it.
I will look up how to clean the ports I remember doing them on my Boxster but that was prob 10 years ago. The sensor that was mentioned for the airbag will it work after the code is cleared or do I need to replace it? Any idea part number or location?
I really appreciate all of you guys help and input
You need a diagnostic tool. PIWIS is the Porsche tool. Durametric is an after market Porsche tool, a good one. Launch is another good tool.
The PIWIS official version is uber $$ and the $75 version is a boot leg version.
Plug in the tool, clear the Convertible Top error codes. Perform a Calibration, it will most likely not do that and report a bunch of errors. Read the error codes, fix the problem. Go from there. There is no more easy solution.
You must not spend much time on the Forums ..
Yes a Genuine Porsche OEM PIWIS is Unobtainium $$$$$.....But this guy has a step by step of the China-Bootleg PIWIS for $75
https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...only-75-a.html
I normally despise China knock-off products , but I agree with the "Right-To-Repair Act" and Porsche guidelines keeps the PIWIS out of reach, and they really should make the PIWIS much more affordable..
My glove box was open. I shut it and now dont get a beep when I lock it just two when it unlocks. So Im guessing the rear latch is working
So is the durametric cable or the PIWIS what I want? I have seen them on eBay but read it was just an outdated version of the diametric that cant be updated and could cause issues with the car. Is that true? I dont mind spending the extra $200 for a real cable if its the better route
I read the article thank you for that. I didnt know anyone had made a factory tool available. Is it pretty easy to navigate and understand for the people that have it?
No it is not easy to navigate and understand. Many things are in German and not English. If you live and breathe software, it is intuitive. If you don't do software and not a computer wiz, it is hard to start out and get going. Eventually, you will get it working. The price is right and the work that someone put into this effort was enormous all for the benefits of Porsche owners.
Im pretty savvy but don't know how to code or live and breathe software. Should I go the durametric route in that case or still better to just try to figure out the other program?
I went ahead and ordered the stuff to build the PIWIS tool. I will keep yall updated when it comes in what codes come back. If anyone has any ideas to try in the meantime Im all ears
