This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anyone ever deal with a "pinging" sound at low rpms? Research tells me it might be premature detonation in the cylinders, which = very bad and needs to be addressed. I'm not sure, as it occurs immediately when I start driving in the morning once I hit 1600 rpm, and then stops by the time I'm at 1800 rpms...so it doesn't 'last', but it definitely occurs each time I hit that cycle of rpms. I only notice it in lower gears (1 or 2), probably because I'm never at that low a level of rpm in gears >2. Any thoughts on what this could be? How critical...any fixes I might try before taking in? Thanks

POST 2Original post

can u post a sound file? my engine also making "tatata" sound with low RPM, i suspect it's valve tapping, but the porsche tech said it's normal?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'll try to get a sound file recorded...although I wouldn't classify it as a "tatata" as you described. This is more like a bunch of small pebbles being shaken in a tin can. High pitched...almost like a phone ringing. It's brief...by 1800 rpm, it stops...

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anyone else ever experience this?

POST 5Original post

I have the same problem with my 03 C4S. When I come to a complete stop and blip the throttle, it will ping. Sounds like detonation. Sometimes it will the make the sound on start-up when the engine is warm. I have taken it the dealer and they can't find anything wrong. It seems to happen only when it is above 80 degrees outside. I only use high octane fuel and this has happen since the car was new.

POST 6Original post

What ms response time are you getting from your engine?

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorry Riad, not sure what you mean by "ms"... Car idles normally, occasionally (only occasionally) feels a little sluggish in low gears when starting out/warming up. Really no 'roughness' felt at all. I'm wondering if I would have some of those symptoms in addition to the pinging if it were indeed carbon buildup...

POST 8Original post

I was being an ***. Pinging is a term often used to check the "health" of a server. You would ping it to get a response, that response is measured in miliseconds.
