On my car I used a footwell light switch to activate the On-Board Computer (another DIY) and them modded that switch so that whenever the spoiler is up the light on the footwell light switch is on.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I tried to RTFM, but didnt see it in the manual. maybe i am just blind. i seen some pictures of 996 with rear wing in the up position when standing. how do they do it? is this an aftermarket thing or a secret feature thing?

POST 2Original post

lol, look down to the left, there is a little button

POST 3Original post

It might be a rocker switch located in the footwell on the left side, near the emergency power connector.

POST 4Original post

There is a simple Mod you can do by rewiring that footwell switch to an actual OEM switch on your dashboard among others (PSM, Door lock, Convertible-Top Up/Down, etc...) so that you can manually through that switch, move that spoiler Up at any speeds.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

sweet, thanks guys. i'll have to look into rewiring that switch into the console. i found this DYI pics: http://gallery.rennlist.com/gallery/albur35 i am just not clear about one thing: how do i run the wires into the console? is that something straight forward i'll figure out on my own when i take things apart?

POST 7Original post

I heard this might work for raising your wing....

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

dude please tell me you saw jon stewart tonight. they had a hilarious commentary today on the new north korean nuclear rocket, called "Taep'o-dong" missile. of course daily show had a blast by calling it "type of dong" btw, i never saw an email from you with that "all-in-one" 996 order -- did i miss it or you just been busy? no hurry, just want to make sure i dont miss it.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

is your thicker steering wheel an aftermarket one? what about self dimming rear/side mirrors? i need to get those for my 2003.

POST 10Original post

it is easier to kick the switch than using your hand..... Pleas note - this is not my car - it's too Green !!!!

POST 11Original post

That is the same link I used when I installed my spoiler switch on the upper center console. Routing the wiring is pretty intuitive once you get the horseshoe off. You will run the wire from the fuse box up to the backside of the dash (nearest the windshield) and over to the center console. Routing the wire took about 2 minutes.

POST 12Original post

As Gota911 said, the wiring of this switch is very easy... After removing the plastic panel with the existing switches attached, pop an empty one out, get the new one in and drop the wire straight down through the bottom foot wheel. You may do one wire at a time and be patient . Then I rewire along the ventilation tube with tie-wraps and then down to the original witch. Good luck!

POST 13Original post

So I am/have been interested in the switch mod. But how do you know when the spoiler is deployed and when it is not? As we all know you can't see it from inside the car. Is there some sort of light or something on the dash that will let you know?

POST 14Original post

You can see it in the rear view mirror if you're 6'4"!

POST 15Original post

I can see the spoiler lip in the rearview mirror and I'm only 5' 10".

POST 16Original post

Damn! ANOTHER disadvantage to being 5'10"! :-) LOL

POST 18Original post

Then again, you can probably wear a helmet in the car much more easily than me!

POST 19Original post

I used to be able to see the spoiler in my 2001 C4, and I'm just under 5-10. On the C4S I don't see it at all.

POST 20Original post

I can see the spoiler in the "up" position in my coupe. I recall that this was discussed in a thread a while ago. Apparently, it is difficult (if not impossible) to see the spoiler in the "up" position on Cabs because of the higher profile of the center "hump" (sorry, I don't own a cab so I don't know what the movable "u" shaped thingy is called) that is just forward of the rear deck lid.

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

yeah, i am 6'2" and i dont see in the cab

POST 22Original post

I can see it fine at 5'8 and I keep my seat on the floor. It you can see the "Porsche" lettering at the bottom of the rear window, then you can see the spoiler. The spoiler comes up to just above the lettering. FYI, this only works up through 996's. Up through the 996(964 and 993), the rear spoiler has 2 purposes: to add downforce and to scoop air for the engine, hence why the vents are vertical. It rises high enough to get a ram air effect from air coming off the rear glass. The 997 is different in that it uses the rear spoiler to add downforce and vent air rather than pull it in. The vents are horizontal. To get proper ventilation, it doesn't rise as high. To compensate for reduced downforce from the lower heght, Porsche added surface area by making it larger. I can't see any of the spoiler in the rearview mirror or even turning my head and looking back in a 997.

POST 23Original post

I bought the Turbo spoiler switch and did the modification myself. It is not hard to do, just some wiring to create. But there is also someone who offers a kit with the switch and wiring harness all made up, they are on Ebay all the time. There is one now from Europa Auto Parts for $69.90, look here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PORSC...spagenameZWDVW They also offer a tap to use the light on another switch. That is where it gets creative. On my car I used a footwell light switch to activate the On-Board Computer (another DIY) and them modded that switch so that whenever the spoiler is up the light on the footwell light switch is on. If your are interested I am sure I have the information of the mod in my files somewhere. It toke a resisiter from Radio Shack and a little soldering. Let me know if you are interested.

POST 25Original post

Factory thicker 3-spoke, ordered with my full leather interior, full leather wheel as well. Self dimming factory again. '04 C4S many options included in the package.

POST 26Original post

The only button that works for me is the gas pedal since my switch is broken.
