Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Considering trading my '99 C2 for an '03 C4S (under 4000 miles). Or for a new 997 C4S. Haven't driven the 997 out of fear I'll NEED it. Probably would save over $35K, along with the smaller depreciation, if I go with the '03. And if I don't drive the 997 I won't know what I'm missing....... Just ruminating, but any thoughts would be appreciated

POST 2Original post

My brother is considering the coupe version of the M Z4 (whatever it is called). When he was in town, I twisted his arm to try a Cayman. The dealer had a used 997 C2S that I was drooling over while my brother was on his test drive. The sales guy was really nice and allowed me a test drive in it. Needless to say, I loved it. After hearing the price, however, my 03 C2 never felt so good. It would be an improvement, but not that much of an improvement. Now if I had an unlimited budget, sure.

POST 3Original post

I love my 996 C4S. If everything was equal (if $$ were no object) I'd pick the 997. But, a $35K difference is a ton, which is one reason I went with the 996. Mine is an '04 with <1500 miles. A great car - in some ways, I like it's looks better than the 997, especially the rear You clearly can't go wrong either way - just make sure the '03 is PPI'd before you buy. Phil '04 C4S Coupe/Atlas/Black/Manual

POST 4Original post

Yeah go with the 996 C4S...too much of a price jump for a new 997 C4S without an equal jump in improvements. Ditto on the PPI and I'd ask a reputable body shop to check it over and do a paint density check to make sure there isn't any collision repair or repaint on it.

POST 5Original post

The price alone should make it a no brainier. I would definitely go 996 C4S and save all that cash, then in a few years when the 997 C4S depreciates trade in your 996.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You guys are thinkiing what I'm thinking.... Now, while I spent a lot of time on colors and options and settled on mirage/space grey (so I'm the proverbial "ends of the bell shaped curve"), niether the ext OR int colors on the car were available. Any thoughts on lapis/cinnamon brown???? Might be great if the colors go, but by no means as safe as lapis/grey, and it's too far away to just go take a look......

POST 7Original post

Don't worry. Go drive the 997 C4S. You may be pleasantly surprised, and prefer the 996 C4S . I did. The 997 C4S is an upgrade over the 996 C4S in certain aspects. However, it has lost it's uniqueness. It looks like any other 997. Gone are the flared nostrils, wider hips, rear vents, and red strip. So, it's a toss-up. To me, the upgrades can not and do not make up for the loss.

POST 8Original post

I agree....love my '04 C4S Cab, it's unique in comparison to other models, loaded interior, great looks (wide hips) and variety of other happy things.... 997, well, yeah, it's got a few more ponies, but I still don't love the interior, and it is bland on the exterior. Given the budget issue, it's a no-brainer. 996 C4S.

POST 9Original post

I agree with Palting. I just didn't find the 997 C4S as distinctive looking as the 996 C4S.
