Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

I know that may sound strange, but it worked for me.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Had to replace the coolant tank in my car this weekend. Why does the "dealer" say it takes four hours for the job? I did mine in two hours and it only cost me $220 for the tank and a bottle of spring water!

POST 2Original post

Way to go! Any pictures to assist the rest of us? Chris.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Didn't take a lot of pictures, just one with the tank out. I can say if you do it, make sure you take out the air pump (gives you more room to work). Also, remove the coolant sensor before you pull the tank out all the way, but put it in first when you install the new tank. I know that may sound strange, but it worked for me. I used Loren's instructions from the Rennlist DIY.

POST 4Original post

I agree with your recommendations. I replaced my tank last month. The only way I could get it back in was to remove the top bracket nearest the rear of the car. I then slid the tank into place, replace the bracket with an articulated socket and popped the tank in to the brackets.

POST 5Original post

That's great that you can DIY this job. Stevens Creek dealer in Santa Clara charged $690 for labor and $317 for parts including coolant and cap. I got mine done last week under extended warranty, lucky I have it For sure they removed the air pump to make room, but the bad thing is that the Tech forgot to put back one of the attachment screws on the bottom body panel..., Man, I wish I can do the maintenance myself to avoid these aggravations

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorry Loren, got the board wrong. Electric Lizard - my tank took 5 minutes to put in (the first time) until I realized I couldn't get the coolant sensor back in. Had to remove it again to put the sensor in.
