I used an old Panasonic C655 Satellite running Windows 7 on a clean hard drive and a dedicated laptop and followed the directions on page 1 of the 997 thread and got it running in a Virtual Box without much fuss..

Got the correct "VMWARE" version and have simulation mode running now.

Just frustrating that I have 2 versions of PIWIS downloaded and can't get either to run since the tutorials do not match.

I tried one from torrent with Acronis image file, but that did not work
All, spent the last many days trying to get PIWIS 3 setup and I keep hitting roadblocks everywhere. There are some guides posted but it does not align with the torrent files or the VM software itself partly because I believe the Torrent was changed at some point so the directions do not match. I have IT background, but not familiar with VMs and I am not able to get anything running using either torrent.
My setup:
Dedicated Panasonic ToughPad running Win 11 and a 512GB mSATA SSD
VAS6154 Aliexpress dongle with usb cable.
Oracle VirtualBox/ VM Ware Workstation / PowerISO installed
I have 2 versions of PIWIS downloaded
V1 = Acer PIWIS 3 41.600 38.250 PowerISO 256 (UEFI)
This version when extracted consists of multiple folders (KMS Tools, PT3Gkg - piwis911, VCI) an XDI file 70GB and PIWIS 3 Drivers.
It's not clear in any instructions how to deploy this.
V2 = Piwis 41.500+38.250 UEFI.vhd
This version is a single VHD file.

Have also tried opening with PowerISO no success.
Using V2 Torrent
File is a single VHD file which is reported to be supported by Oracle Virtual Box
I created a new VM, allocated 4GB RAM , 2 cores, specify virtual HD, use an existing VHD, selected the VHD I downloaded, start VM and I get error
"VirtualBoxVM" "The virtual machine failed to boot."
I have alternatively tried making a bootable Win 10 USB and installing Win 10 first, then trying to load either V1 or V2 and no success.
Just frustrating that I have 2 versions of PIWIS downloaded and can't get either to run since the tutorials do not match.

I'll try to do that too, except I want to get it without virtual box and keep separate laptop just for PIWIS.

Be sure to use WinRAR, Windows detected the rar files but gave error when unzipping. Only use WinRAR (the instructions also say this).

PIWIS is the cats meow when it comes to diagnostics or programming on Porsche vehicles...... it gives all the actual values, has short tests. Identifications, programming for replacement modules, wiring diagrams. ( even color-coded live wire tracing on later models ) ..Drive links, Coding, Adaptions, Fault Finding, Data Logging ect. ect ...Nothing else even compares....
Don't be afraid to explore every nook and cranny of the PIWIS Software.... It will not let you destroy the modules without "asking your permission"...... If it "asks your permission" or says " are you sure you want to perform this function", be SURE TO REMEMER or record your choice, especially if you're not sure of what you are doing, then you can always go back and "undo" what you have done and put it back to original ( provided you have ran and kept a document of the VAL ) especially in Coding...
The only time I have ever seen anyone " Brick" a module is when they let the battery voltage get too low, or use the wrong " programming codes " when programming a module...
