I use worm gear clamps exclusively on my race cars, and use even better clamps for high boost like T-bolt Clamps or Double Wire Bolt Clamps on Turbo-Charged pipes..

About to do some work on the cooling system (water pump, thermostat, etc.) and figured Id probably need to replace a few hoses and clamps as I go through.

Ive used Oetikers band type clamps and have their tool.

I use the Oetker brand for all my replacements as they are easily sourced.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

But to be fair, if used correctly worm clamps or band clamps seem to work very well also, at least till hoses get very old/dried out/cracked/swollen/thin/etc, making clamp lose its grip somewhat.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

About to do some work on the cooling system (water pump, thermostat, etc.) and figured Id probably need to replace a few hoses and clamps as I go through. Bought some genuine parts based off the latest Porsche parts catalog and was surprised to see that many of the genuine clamps are now worm gear clamps where they are clearly spring clamps on the vehicle (03 C4S w/ 30k miles - think most if not all clamps are original).
Would like to stick with the spring clamps, so was curious if anyone out there found a good reference for what size spring clamps go where (and where to buy them)? I see FCP Euro carries the Mubea clamps, but many dont have a cross reference part numbers to the current parts catalog, so would have to go by sizing alone. Was thinking of going in with some calipers and measuring hoses, but thought I put this question out there before I do. Appreciate any info.
I use the Oetker brand for all my replacements as they are easily sourced. Regarding cross-reference, when you look at the P/N in the Porsche catalogue it will give a description of size. For example, the small hose clamps used on the AOS coolant line are P/N 999 512 568 02 and the description is "Clamp, 13,9 - 16,1". This gives you the size needed to cross-reference (13.9mm fully closed & 16.1mm fully open). A quick google search for the Oetiker spring clamp P/N in the size 13,9 - 16,1 is 15400039. I would highly suggest using the correct jaw pincer pliers for proper installation.
got it, very helpful and good suggestion. Took another look at the catalog and noticed while many PNs have been updated to worm gear clamps, the descriptions still reference the size of the spring clamps (which can then use to get clamping range for Oetikers like you suggest)
Ive used Oetikers band type clamps and have their tool. Very Good clamps, used them on marine/watercraft applications.
Never seen Oetikers spring clamps, do they make those..?
I also like the spring clamps that come on the m96. The spring action constantly keeps pressure on the hose as it swells or contracts with age. Something a worm clamp or band clamp can not do. IMO, spring clamps keep hoses leak free for the longest time. But to be fair, if used correctly worm clamps or band clamps seem to work very well also, at least till hoses get very old/dried out/cracked/swollen/thin/etc, making clamp lose its grip somewhat. Something the 'spring clamp' can constantly adjust for....
Problem with the spring clamps is they all seem to more easily rust because of their steel alloy composition that needs the the right alloys to be 'springy' enough but still be rust resistant. Seems thats a conundrum for clamp manufactures.

Not that Im aware of. I read the other post as saying he replaces spring clamps with normal Oetiker clamps.
On the parts catalog, think if the description reads two whole numbers (eg 26 x 12), it implies a Mubea spring clamp nominal size 26mm by 12mm wide. When it gives a range like 13.9 - 16.1, it means an Oetiker clamp with range of 13.9mm - 16.1mm. Checked this on a number of parts and seems to check out.
I absolutely hate the spring clamps with a passion. They are always hard to get to or point the wrong way and have me invented may curse words. When i see one, I throw them out and replace with worm gear clamps (8mm screw).
I usually change to worm clamps. Norma clamps are available from Mcmaster-Carr for about 10% of what the auto supply places charge.
German Auto Parts (RIP the GaP) used to sell these Swedish worm clamps with zinc bands. Those were great.
Wurth USA, Belmetric , McMaster-Carr, HCL Fastenging, Mubea , Amazom/Uxcell, Clips and fasteners.com , they all have a good selection spring /constant tension clamps... some only have certain sizes availible...
I buy 4 different size spring/constant tension clamps and one size Oetiker clamp for UAOS kits...so I have bought from all of these places..
I use the Oetiker clamp when the connection is semi-permanent, and use the spring/constant tension clamp where the connection is predicted to be serviced more easily/quickly...
I like the "worm gear" type clamps "ok" but only use them in certain circumstances or when the Spring/ Constant tension is not easily available.....one reason I don't like them is they don't look "OEM" ... the other is I have seen to many leaks caused by " over or under" tightening them, since there is never a torque speck, non-professionals don't know how tight to tighten them..
I use worm gear clamps exclusively on my race cars, and use even better clamps for high boost like T-bolt Clamps or Double Wire Bolt Clamps on Turbo-Charged pipes..
