Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Why is it that Porsche makes several different components for a 996 based on how it is eguipped, ie different wiring harnesses based on heated seats or not, but we all have the same dash and center console with all the blank switch plates. For example, I have four switch posistions on the console even though I have a C2 coupe. I therefore have two blank plates. I would think it would be cheeper to make all the same wiring harnesses and not plug components in then to make a different harness for each car configuration. Yet we all get the same center console and "horseshoe" with blank switch plates even though we have different model cars. The blanks make the car look cheep IMHO...... Rant over, back to our regularly scheduled listings.......

POST 2Original post

It's a punishment for all of us cheap a$$es, for not selecting all of the available options on the order specification! Chris.

POST 3Original post

It's all about money. It really is more expensive to make all the wiring harnesses the same. It really is cheaper to make all of the ashtray units the same.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Damn...there goes my argument... But still, how much more could it cost to at least make the console piece model specific.... as that is the most obvious.........

POST 5Original post

Not much. If you don't mind spending a little money, you can have them modified. The guys that come to the dealer to repair interior defects can sometimes do custom work. When I removed my rear seatbelts, I wanted the "no slot" roses to replace the ones that the seat belts went through. At that time, they were not readily available. I had mine filled and painted at a cost of about $100. Now, I could just get the GT3 parts for about $40. Eric the plug guy might be able to help.
