Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

22 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 2Original post

you better install it before the drive on 24th so i can check it out

POST 3Original post

Alex - before I installed my B&M Short Shifter, I had NEVER done anything like that to any of the cars I had previously owned. It is about a 2.5 hour job (I took my time). About half of that time is spent removing & re-installing the rear center console. It was not that difficult. Your short shifter looks like an OEM shifter, which is virtually the same as the B&M SS, so the install will be the same. Below is a link to the B&M Racing install instructions. If you can print these out in color, it will take you through the entire process, including the tools you will need. I will be glad to answer any questions you may have as you are going through the process. http://www.bmracing.com/media/products/pdf/67.pdf Here are some additional tips to help make the process easier. Some shift ***** have a set screw on them, but most OEM ***** do not. The set screw will be up high on the shaft after you have lifted the leather boot up. If you don't see a set screw, then the **** just pulls off. Be careful when you pull the shifter **** off of the shifter. It will take a lot of force, and it will come loose suddenly. You can smack yourself pretty well if this happens. I took two screwdrivers and placed on each side of the shifter shaft. The screwdrivers face in opposite directions so you can hold the handle of one screwdriver and the shaft of the other screwdriver in each hand. Sitting in the driver's seat, place your left forearm on your right knee. With your palm facing up, grab the left side of the two screwdrivers (already on each side of the shifter shaft) with your left hand and the right side of the screwdrivers with your right hand (also facing palm up). You can now use your left knee as a fulcrum and pry the **** off. It may go flying straight up, but you won't knock your teeth out. The instructions for the B&M shifter will instruct you to disconnect the cables from the cable ends in step # 17. DO NOT do this! There are two important things that will make the process easier: 1. DO mark the cables, (this is a "just in case..." step) 2. Skip Step #17 - DON'T disconnect the cables from the cable ends. Instead of disconnecting the cables from the cable ends, you will just pull or pry the cable ends off of the shifter (Step #21). 2. In step #23 the instructions tell you to use a utility knife to cut the stock bushing clips. It is MUCH easier to use a sharp chisel and a hammer to cut the bushings off. Hope this helps. PM me if you have any questions.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Tim... appreciate the help... I'll do it this weekend i hope i dont break anything,LOL

POST 5Original post

Alex - Good for you! Again, PM me if you have any questions. Let me know which day (Sat or Sun) you plan on doing this and I'll log on to the Forum frequently and check for any PM's.

POST 6Original post

Alex, I'm willing to help you with this if you need a hand. I'm in Discovery Bay and could swing by tomorrow afternoon (I'll be watching the World Cup until 2 pm). Doug

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Doug and Tim for the help it was no biggie.. Finished it today, took me longer to move the fasteners and screws from the old center console to the alum one,LOL here are the pics..i used the old shift boot and know for now..

POST 8Original post

Alex - very nice! The aluminum pieces look good. They break up the vast expanse of the black. What's next? Maybe an aluminum look steering wheel?

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks man!. dont know wht's next.. i like the steering wheel but will prob wait. I'm looking at these wheels from japan.. 18 inches....whatya think?going with the second pic,, charcoal centers..

POST 10Original post

that's a PHAT lip . who makes em. i'd rock em

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Work makes them..It's made in Japan, but really good quality... btw you have pics of those momo tips?

POST 12Original post

Alex - those wheels would look good on your car. Just make sure you get the correct offset for both front and rear. I say this because in the last 4 months, 3 or 4 guys on this forum have purchased the wrong offset for their rear wheels, (wide body wheels for a narrow body car) then have been looking at getting narrower tires and addiing more negative camber to "make them fit." Here is a link to a wheel offset calculator that may be of some help to you. http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No worries Tim, One of the 6speed member is a reseller and they have to get it customized..it will come in the OEM offset for the 996..Takes 6-8weeks to order...here's one guy that he helped, he's prob the only turbo that has these wheels..

POST 14Original post

Alex - glad to hear you will be OK on offsets. That Turbo looks aewsome. Do you know what color that is? It is both unique and gorgeous!

POST 15Original post

What no comment on what you think of the SSK???

POST 16Original post

Looks good man! See, the install was easy. The pedals look awsome with the aluminum look parts

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks Tim , I love the center console

POST 19Original post

Dang it. Now I am going to have to add the painted console to my mod list! Actually, I had inquired about yours but you beat me to the punch.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

good place to get it is from Eric@bumperplugs, was gonna get it there, then saw Tim's post, had to jump on it

POST 21Original post

Alex911s, Those wheels are great. I'm looking for something just like those for my Silver 996. Can you give me the info, costs, etc? I'm very interested as well. Norb
