Read evidence and context

Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

2001 996 Cab Tip Top is stuck down. Engine cover closed. Parking brake light is on. Convertible indicator blinks 3 times during press of dash switch. Door lock with key only locks the door. Any ideas?

POST 2Original post

Don't drive in the rain. Seriously, try www.renntech.org free registration and great tech people there.

POST 3Original post

Does the top raise when you use the key on the door? Does the top motor make any noise? Is the car parked on level ground?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Got it to go up with the engine on. I think the battery is becoming marginal now. Bought a new one last night, we'll see if it fixes the problem. Thanks for the suggestions.

POST 5Original post

Why do you put the top up/down with the engine off? That's a sure way to kill the battery.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I put it up and down with my remote, while I am walking to the car. It shouldn't kill the battery, thats what a battery is for. Batteries get marginal (can not hold charge as well) as they get older FWIW, I just changed the battery, the top (ie top motors) seems "peppy" again, we'll see if the problem rears its head again.

POST 7Original post

I agree with riad. That is one of the reasons I did not get the RemoteTOP as I don't ever move the top with the engine off. Love the SmartTOP though.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sigh....The Porsche battery lasted 4 years and 10 months, thats pretty good lifetime.

POST 10Original post

The trick to a long lasting battery is keeping it charged. If not driven daily, a battery tender will save money in the long run. Glad everything works out now.
