I replaced the cassette storage bin with an extra storage bin and now want to use the old faceplate from the cassette bin.
Leading evidence: 'Replace cassette storage bin' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check any kind of seam first and try' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. I took my old cassette holder apart and used the face plate with an XM radio.

I'd check for any kind of seam first and try to flex it apart from there, all the while being on the lookout for tabs.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I replaced the cassette storage bin with an extra storage bin and now want to use the old faceplate from the cassette bin. Does anybody know how to remove the actual trays from the faceplate? I can get them to move about an inch but no more. I would like to use the faceplate to mount a satellite radio receiver.
Thanks
I don't get it. Why don't you just swap back to the cassette holder then? Even if you get the cassette holder apart, the cassette trays will not stay with the bezel. I don't think it's doable.
I kind of get what you are describing, MrCook. It sounds like you want to mount a satellite receiver where the 4 cassette trays currently sit in the cassette storage bin. I've not actually ever removed the storage mechanism from the faceplate and wonder if the plastic is one piece. However, having work with Porsche OEM parts before and knowing how a good many pieces are actually two (and hence more prone to rattles), you may be able to separate the two. I'd check for any kind of seam first and try to flex it apart from there, all the while being on the lookout for tabs. While I don't have the cassette tray (I have the CD storage bin), it does seem like at the very least, you could 'break' the tape storage portion away. Hey, on the bright side, if it fails, they don't cost too much to replace.
I took my old cassette holder apart and used the face plate with an XM radio. As I recall there is a plastic tab in the back (About 1" square) that holds the sections together. Using small screwdrivers inserted into the openings in the back you can release the clips and separate the left/right sections.
Then there were two more tabs on each side -- these are about 1 1/4" back from the front faceplate. I think I used a very thin piece of metal and pushed in it around the left and right side from the front but you could probably pry on them from the sides as well -- the two tabs on each side are obvious little plastic fingers holding on to the cassette trays. I think that was all it took.

LSU Thanks for the info.
I was trying to move the trays through the front instead of pushing them out the back. I knew someone had to have tried this for satellite radio.
