It's on Ceika coilovers which seem really nice but they're adjusted pretty badly at nearly fully dropped but softest setting plus the alignment is somewhat off.

I will also have the AOS and oil cooler checked for leakage and bad seals.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The first being, that FVD's rear GT look bumper didn't work out so well.
I think they are all nice, mine is pretty good, but not the best....Ill post pics when i get home, I am @ the office, I do not have any good pics here......
Edit pics are up....I tie with the winner OK?
Karlooz....
I contacted the manufacture of the wing and they said that I would have to shell out some more $$$$ and the chances of finding a buyer for the CF blade without the deck would be slim. I would LOVE to offer it out to you but because you don't have a BLACK car I don't think it would be worth it for you... The paint alone is a $500 bonus to those who own that color....
I know your "magic" number Karlooz so I'll keep you in mind.....

Ditto Here!!!! That's the attitude to have. That's what makes this board so great....the diversity we have yet all have great cars and appreciate the uniqueness of each one.
Hey you guys with the black
SPORT DESIGN WHEELS
are those powder coated or painted, I still have mine and I'm thinkig of powder coating them.....they look outstanding. I like the wheels I have now, but I do miss my
SPORT DESIGN WHEELS
once in a while. Here's a pic of my Sportec Wheels wheels from the side.....

That is the cleanest, shiniest car of any I have ever seen. What do you use? It looks better than when they roll out of the showroom. It looks ceramic.
speedread: Nice picture! I love the rims and the nice backdrop. Excellent job with the composition of the shot -- the lines of the car follow the shape of the building in the background very nicely.
vove: What type of bumper and sideskirts did you put on? Looks like the 2002+ Aerokit II but yours is pre-2002. Very nice.
Kirby, I know you're not looking for feedback, but I have a question/comment. Have you considered swapping your side skirts for the '02+ skirts (from the GT3) with the sharper crease? It might pick up the sharp edges of the GT3 nose and the new wing a bit better. Just a thought, in case you ran out of things to spend $$ on
vove, I think the question we're trying to ask is where you got it from. It isn't OEM -- did you get it from MA Shaw, Getty Design or another aftermarket shop? I'm just curious because I haven't seen it before. It looks really good.
Also, which body shop did you use? Was it a local NoVA shop? I want to get additional work done on my cab and would like to know find other good body shops besides Wagonworks (who I used for the RUF front spoiler and skirts). Thank vove.
Scouser- I really like that rear wing that you've got on the cab. Pardon my ignorance here, I'm still really new to this (and, in fact, don't even have my car 'in hand' yet), but who makes it and does it still allow the movement up and down to function with speed and/or the switch?
Thanks!
Programmatore, Thanks for the comments...I purchased the front spoiler from an aftermarket shop out in the west coast, precision porsche. I had a friend who is also a porsche nut that happens to work in the paint industry do the paint work and we installed it ourselves. You can try euro pros for your cab needs, Ive seen their work and its second to none but watch out for the turnaround time.
Thanks Nick. But I may be about to change it as I am soon to have a TTP GT2 front bumper installed and I am presuming it will affect aerodynamics and hence require a bigger wing to balance the front downdraft.
The whole body kit including wheels is from Khan, the wheel company.(

) click on Porsche->996 Cab .
I am fairly certain they don;t make it anymore though. Yes, the tail still auto lifts and the tail switch (inc my mod) works.
Here's some close up pics of it down and up.
I absolutely love the '99-'01 front-end. Plays perfectly to the curvey nature of the car v. the hard edged face-lift.
Loving that silver GT3. Wow. The GT3 aerokit is perfect.
What do your neighbors think when you pull the car up in the yard? "There goes that Mike again fiddling with his cars" Love the new lip and side skirts, saweet.
It's not the yard the neighbors worry about, it's their roofs. I have done a few low passes over the neighborhood. We had some house guests and did a few fly bys( 300 agl ) for them on my way out on a trip. Deep wing waves and a 70 deg departure turn. Neighbors know I am a little off, so they took it in stride.

I hope this helps!
I definitely like the red Jim. It seems like there are no red Porsches out there now. The red Porsche was the CAR a while ago but not anymore. Most are not flashy colors. We need more red out there.
Colors are personal preferences of course, BUT, the two colors I like best of all are Guards Red and Signal Yellow. You might as well acknowledge the fact that when you have a P/car you are going to be noticed. So I figure lets give them their money's worth---Red or Yellow!
Another thing...I'm sure bee's and butterflies think my car is a flower. They land on her all the time and just crawl around. Probably trying to figure out how to pollinate with this thing. I think that's kind of cool.
Just picked up my 2001 996 yesterday in NYC and drove it home to Akron, OH. Took me almost an 1 1/2 hours to just get out of Manhattan to I-80. Lincoln Tunnel was closed and everyone was trying to use the Holland Tunnel to get to New Jersey. Another 90 minute delay in Pennsylvania due to road 'work'. There were areas 'coned' off for miles with nobody even present to DO work. Some of these areas had traffic stopped or moving at < 5 mph for mile upon mile (sorry, just venting). The rest of the journey home was uneventful and a blast. If I had my Valentine 1 it would have taken me less time to get home, but it was sent for 'update' and hasn't returned as yet. Some pictures are located

Nice pic and even nicer car! I LOVE the color, but am obviously biased. Have you thought about changing the black Carrera logo to a silver logo? I did that to mine a while back and just like the contrast difference much better. Check out my avatar. Just a thought.
Here is my newly acquired 2002 C4 Cabriolet with 25,000 miles. Pretty much bone stock at this point...
I have also starting putting together a web site at:

Thanks for everyones' willingness to share their fountain of knowledge with us newbies.

Here's mine before the mods: Fabspeed exhaust/headers, EVOMS fresh air intake, clear side markers, RUF pedals. Mods to do in the future: ROW M030, turbo bumpers and skirts, bronze powdercoated rims.
Tim - those are just run-of-the-mill Sport Classic II's. They came on the car as an upgrade option in 11/'99. I do really like them but they can be tough to keep clean. I keep them coated in ReJex which helps the dirt and brake dust clean off easily. And thanks, I just love my car!
CarreraX -
Great looking car! I'd love it, too!
How do you like the 19's on it? Did it change the road feel drastically? I am really soul-searching what to do with rims and the 19's are just so striking looking, but I don't want to end up with a harsh ride. Are you glad you did it?
Thanks Stevo,
It rides great with the 19's actually. They are champion wheels and the suspension was done by champion also. It had the wheels on it when I bought it so I cant compare it with the stock wheels. I do have a friend with 17's on his 996 and mine rides as good or better.
I had a problem with the leather coming loose on my Boxster, so I decided to make the fix look a bit different. I like it so much I've been thinking about a similar look in my 996. take a look at the Boxster doors. Any ideas on a color scheme for the 996?
The 996 has changed a bit since this picture. I have added a CF shift ****, please no TIP jokes, I like it, and the batwing is CF with built in Valentine 1 remote unit. I know it's easy to go over board and maybe I already have. The aluminum look is real aluminum not paint. I'm thinking of a somewhat shiny silver leather around outside of door panels as in the Boxster doors. Opinions?
[QUOTE=smshirk]One more thing, am I going CF nuts?
smshirk - You need to get the CF key fob! That would look really nice with all of your other CF stuff!
Looks nice Eric... are you keeping the cayenne? Funny, last year you had that grey 996 that you did all those mods to and then sold it... now you're buying another one!
Yeah It was sold, we had plans to move to Denver so I sold the 996 with plans to replace it in a year, It has been 1 year this month since my AS 996 was sold. I can't tell you how much I miss that car! We purchased the Cayenne thinking it would be our winter SUV and that was short lived. It was too nice to trash in the winter as our only SUV. So I sold the Cayenne and sent it back to So.Cal. We leased an 05' Denali it has come in real handy with all of the new home shopping and Home Depot runs. We have been busting our asses for 9 months on back to back remodeling projects on our house that was built in 1928... I am just finishing up on 3 months of Landscape/hardscape and refinishing the garage. I was waiting for my space to be finished before getting another P-Car, I am just about done.
Here is my club house...
I really would appreciate a comment or two on thses door panels. I am please with the contrast on the Boxster and most everyone who has seen it appears to agree, but I don't know about doing this to the 996. It's not cheap. One hide of quality leather is 400 or 500 bucks and the guy who does this charges 50 an hour. The door panels are very time consuming to get off and on. It is a good 10 to 12 hour job at the very least. I am trying to finish the interior before starting on the aero kit and I just ordered my third set of wheels Friday. I'm having a hard time deciding whether to do the standard aero 1 kit or a turbo look bumper cover from and rear with another wing. I would really hate to spend all this money and wind up being excessive. If you look at my avatar, you can see I tend to keep adding and changing things over time.
smshirk - I have always preferred an interior that is the same color through out. However, when I see some pics of the "aluminum look" mods that some of guys have done with the black interiors, I think it looks pretty good. That's probably because I have never cared for black interiors... too hot... too dark... too bland, IMO. So minimizing the amount of black is a good thing, IMO. I am not a big fan of the painted rear center console either. OK, without the sugar coating, I just don't like the look! But again, that is just my opinion and personal preference. I can however, appreciate the work and effort that went into changing out some of the interior parts, so I make it a point to compliment the results. What does this have to do with your question? I just wanted to give you some background on what my preferences are, so that when you read my comments to your request for input, at least you will know where I am coming from.
With all of that said, I think you might be better off looks-wise and probably money-wise if you were to stick with a more "normal" set of interior mods. Here is a thread, which shows the interior of a 997 with a lot of "Aluminum look" changes, including the rear center console.
https://rennlist.com/forums/997-forum/218966-aluminum-look-package-need-pics.html
I actually like to red in your Boxster, but then, the Boxster interior is much smaller that a 996 interior. I think that it could come off as not really complete in a 996. What you could do is go to the Porsche USA site and go to the car configurator. In '06 they are offering three bi-color interior options, a light/dark gray combo, a Sand Beige/medium brown combo, and a Terracotta & Black combo. Only the Terracotta & Black combo is represented on the configurator, and while Terracotta is not Red, it will at least give you an idea of what a bi-colored interior would look like in a 911. You can also select the 360-degree panoramic view and really see the entire interior, which is pretty neat. I hope this helps you a little. Just remember, mine is just one persons opinion, and ultimately, it is your P-car, so if you like it and it makes you smile... JUST DO IT!
gota911,
Thanks for taking the time. I need a voice of reason once in a while. I have about 5k worth of parts in my basment that I've bought, installed and later removed, including the silver rear center console. maybe I should just get my aero kit done and then see if I need to do anything else. I have done all CF then all alum and now a sort of mix of the two. Either one by itself starts looking a little over the top even for me. There are a ton of black on black 996s running around Atlanta.
The door panels are the one thing that i really likeon the Boxster. It looks a lot different now too. I took those pics the day I got it back from the upholstery shop. It is not a red and black contrast evrywhere except the seats, and when I find my sport seats for the 996, I will probably put the 996 seats in there, if i still have the Boxster by then. They are full power on both sides + memory on drivers' and I don't think I can transfer the memory stuff to the Boxster, but all the power should work. I also found a factory soft feel boxster red rear center console, but haven't put it in yet. Waiting to do it all at one time, including the Bird consoles for each car. At any rate, it gives me something to do in the garage at night. I did a 914 years ago in UTenn not texas orange and white. It looked goofy, but a really die hard fan gave me about double what it was worth at a game one satuday night....go figure
Thanks Kirby
I just got a 350D -- the pic w/the soft top up on the road in the mist was taken w/it. I'm hoping that once I learn how to use it my pics will be closer to the quality of yours.
Todd all fixed, I couldn't get a crane in though.
one more (original avatar)
Well done.
I feel a little embarassed though since I don't have any pics as cool as yours.
Guess I have to find myself a spectacular place for a photoshooting...
Thorsten aka Todd
(Actually I only use this name when I wait for a table in an american restaurant
)
OK, so I'm new to the land of Porsche (been a Bimmer fan most of my adult life). I just picked up this one for my wife (and sometimes me too). They're not the greatest pics around, but they'll have to do as the wife has taken it to the office. Ever see that SUV commercial where the husband and wife keep trying to wake up before the other so they can take the new car to the office - well that's us....
Cheers,
996inTX
Wow this is an old thread.
Ray: Both cars look great with proper stance and a nice set of wheels. I can't wait to get suspension done on my car.
I'll contribute to bringing back this thread too.
Andy
what wheels are you riding on? the top pic? and what are the offsets etc... I love those wheels..... gotta get me sum of that.....
btw.... what would be the offset on those for a Narrowbody?????
Last week's Autocross. (yes, to all the know-it-alls, this pic was photoshopped) I set a course record - for going slow. Hey, I kept thinking about what new tires cost and my right foot suddenly weighed a lot less. It was fun nonetheless. And a good excuse to buy a cool helmet. (it Definitely beats playing golf)
How nice would it be, to drive up to your next DE with your wife sitting beside you and being to pull both toys.
Check this out, small 26' stacker.
trailer14606.jpg
Yeah I know, but here's a chance to get yourself a daily driver (F350 powerstroke) and leave the pepper for the wife.
Tell her you need this in order to spend more quality time with her while going back and forth to DE events. Gives you guys a chance to "communicate"
my soon to be track+DD car seeing that the DE car has serious engine issues after last season's smoking/clanking finish.
LVDell: Nice pair, you and your wife are both lucky to have each other.
What mods have you done/recommend for tracking the Cab besides the obvious safety stuff on a reasonable budget? PM me if you have time.
Many thanks for the compliments!
As for the CAB. We both started in the CAB and then added the GT3 so we could both have our own track cars. I had no idea my wife was going to be as addicted as I was to the track! Damn, I love that woman
As for mods, to the CAB, we added teh full RoWM030 setup, had a proper alignments, and run race pads and fluid. In addition we have a dedicated set of track wheels/tires, Teq Harness rollbar, 6pt harnesses, and GT3 seats. Other than that, it is all about seat time to get better.
Feel free to PM me anytime if you have any questions.
THANKS! I apprciate the help. All the cars on this post are very nice
I have a stock 2000 Carrera Cab that I will be purchasing new shoes for soon and these pics help tremendously with that decision.
great thread guys, i'll play along.
witness the evolution from humble beginnings on the road to perfection:
The link in my sig has the newest photos as well as som interior shots (GT3 seats = GANGSTA)
WOW! that is an even nicer pic of your car. Post some more!!! Love the nice clean lines of the Porsche design...Almost forgot, tell us what that top coat is?
hmmmm, sad to say, i havent washed my car for 2 months, just dust it every morning before i go to work.
It was just taken by someone who knows how to use a proper camera, my shots are never that good.
Sorry thats the only pic with that quality.
adybuncio, your car looks like it's made of glass. Amazing. I think the Zaino brothers and I are going to spend the weekend together. I got a black 1999 with really great paint and I need to pay my dues and get it looking good. Thanks for the inspiration. JK
Use some type of photo editor (microsoft, Kodak....) and compress the photo to the size allowable. Can't remember the size required but when it rejected your photo it told you the max size.
No fancy pics here. I was curious how much clearance I had coming out of my driveway coming "head on". If I go at it at an angle, I'll have more clearance. But as it is, I have tons of room. Almost 1/16" clearance!
Ok, here are some after she was all cleaned up. With Summer and Winter tires.
Need to get rid of the Porsche sticker on the side skirts.
Need to replace the missing front splitter... ASAP
Freshly detailed with Winter wheels/tires
3 spoke wheel upgrade from a TT. Love this thing !! Look the rugs are all dirty again. Good thing these are the old mats that came with the car and are all faided.
Enjoy !
Blush.. Thanks ! Dunno about the bumper must be the light and camera. Not like that in real life. It is a Factory installed Aero Kit. Part of the build options. Took a while to find one like this with the LSD, Sport Seats and M030.
My car was fitted with M030 from factory so it is not the ROW M030 (Rest of World=ROW).... the US M030 is the same specs as ROW M030 but sits higher. Hardly anyone goes out and buys the US M030 for their car when they can just get the ROW M030 which sits lower by about 1 to 1.5 inches... There is an article on it from Panorama magazine. I have a pdf saved if you want it. PM me with your email addy.
Dude, the wheels are called
Superleggera
,
leggera
is the Italian word for "light." I don't think you want to buy wheels called
Super
lagger
. "Lagger" comes from "lag" which is the English word for "to stay or fall behind" or "to become retarded in attaining maximum value."
well... lately, my p-car has been lagging....... got the oil pressure issue, then i have the offset on my iforged all wrong eventhough i don't know what offset it is, and now i need to take it in for an eval........ so maybe i was just talking about my car... but hopefully after everything is fast... i can just say SUPER.....!
I've been sitting back and watching for the last few months and have decided it's my turn to show my pride and joy. Its my first Porsche and have been smitten with the 911 since my first Porsche Driving Experience about 5 years ago. Arena Red 996 C2 '99 model with power up kit 3 spoke steering wheel, PSM, GT3 aero kit and ROW suspension & 19" rims. I bought this car 4 months ago and loving it. I have upgraded the audio to and Eclipse AVN6000 with an i-pod interface, Eclipse amp and Focal speakers in the dash, doors and rear. Have also fitted the Fabspeed cold air intake. Have done one track day and a few trips with the family (we pack light!) the family is loving it!
Darren
Just added these black wheels. They are replica BBS -- you get 4 for the price of 1 original.
Not sure I am loving the black. Might take a while to grow on me, but I wanted to at least not have to spend so much effort cleaning brake dust every other day.
Darren, car looks phenomenal. Those rims are amazing, and you don't see many 911's in candy apple red.
PRH, rims look good - I like the chrome lip. Where'd you get them? I want new rims, but don't want to pay a years private school tuiton for them!
I got the rims from Highline Wheels on Ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/18-Po...91848759QQrdZ1
If you do an ebay search of 18 or 19 Porsche Wheels and you will see a lot of choices from them.
They are not chrome though...They are polished lips with clearcoat. Since my wife drives the car, I didn't want chrome because it's much more involved to fix curb rash. With polished, you can sand it yourself and then buff it.
Here's some with chrome:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/18-Po...91786850QQrdZ1
These are my second set of replicas, and I just can't understand why anyone would pay for the originals unless they are racing. No one can tell the difference and they look great.
They have several styles in several colors.
I have BBS LM's as well.
they look good.... from what i hear... warpage issues and sometimes they don't come in the right offset.... but i do admit.,.. they look nice on your car.....
Well...here she is....I have had her for almost a year and a half. She is going in tomorrow for brakes and an oil change...
...and of course, the other 2 toys...
So, my wife has a tendancy towards the fast and furious cars and would like to pimp out the Porsche a little -- as tastefully as possible.
I am thinking vinyl graphics because it's cheap and easy to remove.
Since I don't have photoshop, I did this in PowerPoint.
Anyone have any vinyl graphics suggestions/examples for us? And how come 996s are almost never seen with racing stripes like Vipers, GT40s, etc?
Rick,
The rims came with the car, I think they're probably speedlines?? The lip is just the polished aluminium. The cost of the tyres here in Aust is the scary bit $850 ea(AUD)
Darren
The grocery getter is actually that...serves the purpose of a winter beater, daily driver, airport cruiser...and ....
.... just a hair faster than the 911....
Here's my dirty 1999 C4.
Driving all winter hasn't been a problem, it's when all that snow melts that it becomes a problem, this slush is nasty stuff. A big truck going the other way made a big mucky splash on me!
I hope it freezes up again this evening so I can get to the car wash!
Yes, they are the 215a. Not sure how much they weigh as the tires were already mounted. I got the rims from a seller on ebay. The person just didn't like the look on their red 993. I think there is another sell on ebay that sells them and thier name was Henrikgirl or something like that. IIRC, in her ad for the chrome 215a, she said the 8s were 20 lbs and 10s were 24 lbs.
Well, if the PO didn't like the black on his red car, on yours they look great! Makes me wonder how they would look on my AS Cab! The OE sport designs look so "last year!" If you can't afford a new Pcar, then new wheels are the next best thing!
Redridge, your car looks so great! What a feast for the eyes!
What I always wanted to ask you is where did you get your beige GT3 seats from? I've only seen them at
Suncoast Porsche
for $2,895 or at
Park Place
for $2,870.
Thanks Riad. Park City is great, thought it is now really on the map... Traffic is bad all year getting to the town from the highway. Can't beat the skiing and temperate, dry summer weather, however...
MMP is awesome. Worth a trip. Ski in PC, then track the car at MMP. Works for me!

Didn't think about the scoop. From the look of the flames, it is probably a small block chevy engine up front.
Do you still use mobile 1 0w40 if it is a chevy V8 ???
I turned the exhaust manifolds around to point to the front and added an extension to bring the exhaust to the front of the side pipes. What do you guys think I am.... an idiot!?!?!?
Well, I had to run some air ducts from the scoop to the engine. That is why I had to raise 'er up 10" so the ducts wouldn't scrape on the driveway. What do you guys think I am.... an idiot!?!?!?
You cant fool me, I smell small block chevy. I bet you will also claim you ran your extensions between the upper and lower control arms of the rear suspension. Lets see a picture
Yeah, well, I screwed up on the flames placement. They should have gone in the back, but they wouldn't have looked as "cool!" Well, now I guess you guys KNOW that I'm an idiot!!!!
Maybe you should leave the Porsche flat 6 in the rear and put a new small block in the front - redundant power, flick of a switch goes from one engine to another. INGENIOUS!!
some pics of mine with the new (to me) 5-spoke wheels. i did also add some 15mm spacers with longer bolts in the rear. i'll mount new wider rear tires (285) next week. pics show car with 225/265 combo.
Thanks. I need to take some new pictures. I now have clear side markers, 35% tint all around, and new wheels. Maybe I should by a camera that works first?
A work in progress. I am planning on a GT3 Aero front bumper and side skirts this winter. Of note is that I have clear side markers now.

It was meant as a joke.
The real Mach 5.
Control A: “Releases powerful jacks to boost the car quickly make necessary repairs or adjustments.” The auto jacks are used to “leap” the car short distances at high speeds, as a wedge to prevent the car from toppling over a waterfall, as an alternative braking systems.
Control B: Sprouts special grip tires for traction over any kind of terrain. At the same time, 5,000 horsepower is distributed equally to each wheel by auxiliary engines.” Definition of “any kind of terrain”: firm, icy, or unsteady ground; ocean floor; vertical mountainsides.
Control C: “For use traveling over heavily wooded terrain. Powerful rotary saws protrude from the front of the Mach 5 to slash and cut any and all obstacles.” The rotary saws have also been used as a means of self-defense.
Control D: “Releases a powerful deflector which seals the cockpit into an air-conditioned, bullet- and crash-proof, and water-tight chamber. Inside it, I am completely isolated and shielded.” The deflector also protects against sleeping gas.
Control E: “The control for special illumination which can be traversed singly or in tandem, and which enables me to see much farther and more clearly than with ordinary headlights. It’s invaluable in some weird and dangerous places that I race the Mach 5.” When used with the “night shades” attached to Speed’s helmet, his vision is enhanced with infrared light.
Control F: “Used when the Mach 5 is under water. First, the cockpit is supplied with oxygen. Then, a periscope is raised to scan the surface of the water. Everything that is seen is relayed down to me by television.” The 100-pound auxiliary supply of oxygen is enough to last for thirty minutes.
Control G: “Releases a homing robot from the front of the car. The homing robot can carry pictures or tape recorded messages to whomever or whenever I want to send them.” The robot also can carry handwritten messages, X-ray film, rope, and small Egyptian statues, and it has been used as a means of defense. The bird-like device is operated by a built-in remote control within the cockpit. A separate button sends the robot “home.”
A Friend took a few shots of my car this weekend. They have yet to be edited as they need to be a bit lighter...but here's a couple of untouched examples.

[Hey jumper(previous page)--great photos!]
it's the GT3 RS part (not cup), yes fits on regular Mk2 bumper, have to trim ~1.25" from each end to fit perfectly, same center hole for mounting, easy to do, DIY is on 6speed, absolutely noticeable increase in front downforce at speed.
I just pressure wash it twice a year, and get under there with highly diluted Simple Green and hand wipe it down, then use tire dressing to shine up the black parts, and metal polish and an orbital buffer to polish the exhaust parts. It takes 2-3 hours to do it each time.
My 996 after I detailed on Fathers day, and the Z06 I had to play with for a couple of weeks
I was to lazy to clean the wheels since I am putting new ones on this weekend!!
I get NO shade in my driveway so this is how I keep it cool while I clay bar and wax
And also continue to work while it rained.
yeah I just got that done yesterday... along with a new coolant tank
Too bad I couldn't get that adjusted before pic.. I can't believe I forgot but it was a last minute pic session with a friend.. I didn't even wash the car.
Yeah, now that I can understand. I'd hate to lose my baby after all the work I'm putting into it. I will say that if I were to trade it would be for your car - A C2S with the aero in SY is to die for. I'll gladly take it off your hands when you're ready.
[QUOTE=erikv;2327444]Here are some picture of my new ride; proudly stock, at least so far!!!
I bought this car three years ago. It was stock but look at me now. Stop the madness I say!
Just took this at the Monterey Historics at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this weekend....
The wind knocked over a ROAD CLOSED sign on the back entrance to the Mazda Raceway, so I (and a bunch of other people) went through the barrier. Just 50 yards down the road were these strange storage buildings ... Not sure what's in there (they're locked up tight), but it makes a nice backdrop for a photo.
My mk1 kit photos will be posted here soon as we finish installation. All factory parts so far.
Does anyone have a good source for an OEM (or perfect replica) of the mk1 Aero rear wing (with adjustable element) ??
From Tour d' Orange New year's morning..(Orange County, CA) I had no sleep and suddenly found myself surrounded by every make and model ..AND exhaust configuration. Wake up! It was great!
That was better than.......(insert your own word)

Nice Nikos! Do you get to stretch its legs a lot there in Athens?? Do they enforce speed limits amuch there? I meant that in a nice way. I worked in Souda Bay, Crete Greece for 2 months and I had a lot of fun with my rental car
, no one really enforced the speeds there..., but I did not get a chance to go to any of their long straight roads. I love suvlakis by the way!
happy Motoring.
Here is yet another black 996.... I have owned this '99 C4 for less than a year, and driven it about 10,000 trouble free kilometers. The attached photo was taken by a friend of mine just after a detailing job. Not bad for a 9 year old car, eh?

sure did, but the deal was - for me to be able to spend the afternoon doing mine, that I had to do the wifey's as well....she was happy when she went into the garage...
Normally the car is parked when I take a photo, but I did have a chance to take a photo on the road recently during our warm weather here in November.
Just for fun, we found a nice smooth but deserted road so my wife drove back and forth a little so I could hear my new Fabspeed mufflers. [Really nice. Not TOO loud, but I think very nice "authoritative" sound . . . ] While I was at it I took a couple of photos.
Next time I will try to remember to pull the front license plate. Now THAT should have been on someones election platform!

Actually it was a concession to my wife. I wanted a 911 but she said no way....unless it's a convertible!
Build starts in March. Until then here are some details: Double adjustable Motons, GT3 sways, control arms and drop links, H&R springs, custom headers, cat bypass pipes, Fabspeed mufflers, racing clutch, lightweight non-ferrous flywheel, and struggling with the reality that the carpet (fire hazard!) has to stay in the car for PCA stock class.

That was:

or was a recommendation to install Lear Jet side markers, which will make that baby fly!

Nice looking car Rich. The seats are fantastic although getting in and out of the car becomes harder. A handle on the A pillar would make the car much easier to get in and out of.
FLY 996 Beautiful interior!!! I suggest anchoring your 5 & 6 point (crotch area) on your harnesses before tracking the vehicle.
Here's mine. New to the Water Pumper Crowd. Former Koni Challenge car with my new graphix on it. I still have work to do to it yet and have plans for a cup wing new front end and a dash re'do.

Rear bumperette delete
. A few reasons for this. The first being, that FVD's rear GT look bumper didn't work out so well. At least the company stood behind the product, though. See this thread:
http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/9...-body-kit.html
And since I drilled out the rivets, and ended up snapping one of the rectangular aluminum pieces that the bumperettes attach to, I was "forced" to do the bumper delete. The guys at the body shop even went so far as to find the exact type of bumper plastic (off a VW, I think they said), so when they plastic welded it in, the shrinking and expansion of the plastic would be the same as the stock bumper.

I posted some pics when I got my 2003 C4S, a couple of months ago. But since this thread has been revived, I'll join the fun....
BTW, I do have the bumperplugs in, now!
Fly- Beautiful car! Love the GT2 wing. Is it an insert or did it replace the whole trunk lid? One more question. Are the taillights smoked with film or actually replacements with smoked lenses? Wiping off drool. Thanks.
Ed - maybe you didn't - I think I posted pictures with the assemblies off of the car (the car was still in the body shop). But it came out okay - I didn't beat up the holes too badly so the light sockets still fit like they should. I think the only thing left is to swap out the third brake light with the smoked lens third brake light to match the side markers...
I really love this thread!

Hello to all from Australia, love the site and look forward to the new posts each time I log on. Here's my very standard carrera 2, which I adore, even with the orange lenses. . .
Oil996 - your car looks really sharp. Very nice pics.
What is the origin of that 3rd brake light ? I'm looking for one at the moment as I need to install one when my GT3 wing gets back from the paint shop.
4 weeks old acquistion, pix taken a day later after I had washed, clayed, and Collinite 845'ed the surface, I don't think the original owner had more than 2 coats of wax on the car over the last 10 yeaars before he sold me the car, the car already looked 10 times better. I've since polished the exhaust tips, and have been enjoying the convertible cruising after installing the electric hoist/winch to lift the hardtop off and stored it until end of the season.
There are some dings and LOTS of fine swirls on the paint surface, a friend of mine who's a PDR magician will take care of the dings, I've also bought a Griot DA polisher and various supplies to polish out the swirls as I have time while working full time and finishing the last year of my MBA, it will be a fall/winter project on this hobby car.
The color Vesuvio Metallic is unusal and appears to be quite rare, staff at Pfaf and EU Autowerks have both only seen a couple of this color over the years, my graphics artist friend had the best description as we are discussing the color when she exclaimed: "I know, it's Eggplant!".
Took delivery on Monday. 1999, black / Savannah Beige. Not much time to clean it up yet, so just a quick wash and shine. Lots of track oriented mod's planned over the next couple of months. Want to get it on the track in time for a November VIR event.
The PSS10s have seen only 500km of commuting duty for now, I can say I really like the ride when everything is set in the midrange of adjustment. Not too much bobble head over bad roads if you know what I mean...My local indy had them on hand also so that pretty much sealed the deal as I needed shocks bad.
Look at post 638, those are the standard 996 wheels, I agree your wheels look more like Boxster wheels to me as well, IIRC standard Boxster wheels are 17" dia, although these look big enough to be 18" dia., are they?
If they are the Boxster wheels, they look really nice. I had those wheels on my '82 928 and I found the ride much more comfortable then the 18s I changed to later. If you like them keep them
Once again, welcome to the group you own a really nice P-Car
Hi you all i am new here , i from Jeddah Saudi Arbia and this is my first post as far as i remember ,

Phil,
Would you mind taking a close up pix of the headlight treatment for us so we can see how well it is done? I'm still debating how I might approach this with my headlights later on, i.e. tint film, painting the headlight to body color then cover it with Xpel film, or painting the Xpel protection film then cover it with thinner 3M clear film etc.
Thanks in advance
Thanks
Truth be told, this was taken on my iPhone. I have a few friends that are professional photographers, so I leave the DSLR's to them. Once my car is finished I'll get some real photos.
Got the car aligned at Achtuning yesterday (
www.achtuning.com
) after fiddling with the coilovers all weekend to fine-tune the ride height and dampening.
911alignment.jpg
They went above and beyond to get the rear suspension dialed in to my specific (non-factory) alignment settings to make the car more street friendly.
I went with .15 degrees of toe-in and -2.3 degrees of camber. This should hopefully greatly extend the life of the rear tires. It also significantly cut down on road noise from the tires with the reduced scrubbing and the car drives much better with no tramlining.
When I took it in, the initial settings were something along the lines of -1.7 degrees of camber and
.86 degrees
of toe-in! No wonder the tires were bald in the rear.
Wouldn't the increased negative camber increase wear on the inboard tread and cause uneven wear vs even but accelerated wear with the higher toe-in you had before?
(sorry to turn this into alignment discussion...)
Yes, but excessive toe is much worse for your tires than a bit of extra camber. People generally equate a lot of negative camber with tire wear, but the cause of the tire wear is usually due to the excessive toe caused by the negative camber. If you can get the toe back in spec the camber isn't too big an issue.
Running a lot of camber certainly isn't ideal of course, but it's the lesser of two evils.
I would definitely work that out with you in a few months. They are 19's with brand new Falken's. I want to go with black rims as soon as I find a decently priced set. Gotta save up for the body kit and get rid of the GT2 wing on it also.

Thank you for your compliments.
I didnt weigh the rear seats but my guess is that they are more than 10lb. The bottoms are very light but the tops are heavier. My guess is closer to 20lb.
Oh wow. Very nice to know. Cnsidering no grown person can sit back there. I will remove them. But retain the seatbelts in those rare cases!
I need those gt3 seats but I want some coilovers first
You can tuck the seat belts into the upper point where they originate. The plastic trim can be removed (carefully) roll the seat belt up nice and tight and tuck into the hole. Reinstall the trim. The bottoms can be removed and saved for reinstall when or if you want.
As far as the seats, they occansionally show up for sale used if you watch the sites and are lucky :-).
Good luck.
Got my car cleaned up by Park Place Auto Salon in Bellevue today. They are having Porsche Appreciation Week and anyone who brings in a Porsche gets a free hand wash that includes interior vacuum, window cleaning and tire shine. Can't pass that up!
IMAG0745.jpg
Oh this is great! I had some "fun" with a salesman there and so went and bought my 03 996TT from another location. I'm going to love taking the car there for a wash and vacuum.
2002 Carrera Purchased from X51 in Omaha and added MK2 Aero about two months ago. IMS replaced, ROW M030 Suspension, Sport Exhaust, Dealer Installed X51, Bose 28000 miles.
2001 Carrera PCA Club racer Stock H MK1 Aero. Bought 2006 street car converted to 100% track car weight approx 2840 without driver, cool suit, etc. Weight with all of that and 1/4 tank of gas 3068.
I have a problem but at least my wife knows about it!
Nice car.
How would you describe the driving differences between your C4S, your M3, and your (old) S4. I've driven them all, but I have not owned them all.
2005 Audi S4 - 6 spd manual = very good every day car, amazing in the rain/snow. Not very exciting. I owned it when I first bought the C4S. C4S, more exciting drive. I did put a Miltek non-res exhaust on the Audi and H-sport sway bars so it could take turns at full speed and sounded great. Terrible gas mileage, I averaged 15mpg
2002 C4S - 6 spd manual, amazing 10 out of 10, every drive is great. all wheel drive, tons of grip. i didn't really use it in bad weather but it has the grip for snow/rain. Fun to drive in all conditions whether on a curvy country road, or sitting in traffic. Great sounds from the engine, no need for an exhaust. Fully leather give you a great interior too.
2008 M3 sedan - 6 spd manual. What's not to like about 414 hp, and a V8 with a 8250 rpm red line!!!! i grew up on rear wheel drive and you can't beat it. In my opinion, nicest interior if you order the Nappa leather. Fastest car of the three listed here. Great engine/exhaust sounds. kept it stock. EDC is the best option in my opinion. Can ride in soft mode when the roads are choppy, sport mode for the curves and the middle setting is adjustable and will adjust to your driving conditions.
Viwed many pictures and you just do not see many Targas. This one has the full Boxter Red leather. Third 911 since 1973 but experienced a dry spell from 73 to 07 when I found this beauty!
Uh oh, I see that all the purists gonna start pouncing soon.
But yeah painting that thing white is a sin. Please tell us that is either a white gloss vinyl wrap or white plastidip with tons of glossifier on it.
On another note, does anyone have a 40th edition for sale without the LSD, x51, polished rims, non turbo front bumper by chance?
Bought it that way. I bought it to drive it, not for resale or investment. The original owner changed it because he hated the color. Whoever painted it for him did a great job. It's obvious that the car was completely taken apart for the spray. + the price was right.
You sir are forgiven and your mind is def in the right place. You had us worried for a sec. I'd love to have a white 996, only without a moonroof though if you get what I mean.
Beautiful car, Wheel Dynamics.
I browsed the complete thread, and what I've seen is very beautiful cars, well cared off, in very different colours (outside and in) compared to what I can see in Europe. Also, a lot of US owners seems not to bother too much about what will be considered good taste or bad taste for mods on a 996. You do what you like to make your car personnal.
Mine is completely standard, a 2002 Targa, no mods. So far anyway. I bought it a few months ago and I want to get intimate with it first. Here below are a few pics.
I like it, I like the shape now, and the 996 shape continue to grow on me, day after day. Your pictures confirmed this. Thanks.
Fabrice
Rasputin, I love the Targa also. Have had mine 7 years this summer. Please be sure to add your pictures to the:
How many 996 Targa Owners out there? thread as well. Did you know that less than 3% of the 996 production were Targas?
John
2003 996 Targa
Pictures from my 996 with Turbo optic and in future with impressively electrical power! The car is currently in my workshop, in parallel Im developing the drivetrain by myself.
Just put H&R Sport springs on last Monday...they hadn't settled any yet when I took this pic, but I can't get over how much better she handles. No more of that floaty feeling in tight corners under power...love this car!
ForumRunner_20140329_202014.png
That's the exact car I want to get next. Going on 11 months with my current 996. Really love it, but my other two P-cars have been Guards Red, and there's just something special about a Guards Red Porsche. Would also like to upgrade to a TT. That's a beautiful car, brother!
Would not have ever ordered Seal Grey Metallic w/ Grey interior if I was buying new but the combination has grown on me. Especially with the Targa roof with the shade drawn back the interior has a very open airy ambience to it. A couple years back I was looking at a silver cabriolet with a bright Teal interior including the dash. I was torn as to whether I loved it or wanted to puke on it. I passed.
After winter hibernation on the Turbo I dropped tire pressures back to standard spec, disconnected the battery charger and started her up. Drove out to get my drive clean test. Passed this and then renewed my plates for another 2 years.
Even though snow flakes are were flying today the tires were ok, braking was a bit off with the cold tires and sandy roads. Boy does this car go, after a winter of driving a normal aspirated 3.6l 996 I been acclimatized to slowness. What an amazing rush the Turbo is.
Jumper,
Both cars look great. I am still looking to replace my 996 that fell victim to corner 9 at Mosport last summer. I will have to post once I get a new car. You wouldn't want to see pics of the old one!
Do you have something you have your eye on or just waiting for spring and more selection. The was a red 997 in the Canadian section that had a rebuilt motor going for cheap.
Jumper, other than being totally awesome, is there a reason you have both a 996 4S and TT? I mean it's great, but I could see a cab and coupe or 993/996 etc.
Although, there is really is no reason needed... They look great.
I bought the C4S in 2003, back then it was big bucks. It's been a great car and I can't let it go for what it's worth today. It's my comfy daily driver and winter beater and it will under go a 3.6 to 3.8l rebuild, while the Turbo I got in 2012 is primary used for the summer fair weathered weekends and track. I needed something to keep up with the new 991S's and 997 GT3's and it does the job. It's been modified and is more track oriented. It also shares all my track wheels, tires and brake pads from my C4S.
I am not a convertible guy and I am not particularly a fan of the 993 head lights. Though a 964 of some sort would be something I'd like to add.
Not yet, I bet soon there will be. I was lucky to find the Turbo locally and then found out I knew the car's previous owner so it was a no brainer. It was tuff looking for cars even locally, they all look good in pictures then you go see them and there totally beat up. Hope your search goes well, expect spring will bring more inventory out.
There's a 2000 996 in UCR's classified for 25k. Looks like a good deal to me.
Out on a gas run and stopped to take some photos.

+996, I've said this countless times before and I'll say it again.
Btw Jumper, you drive any semi rigs? Them doors can definitely accommodate them or a monster truck of some sorts.

The small bright spot on the front passenger side is not a damage, it's my shiny car reflecting the led flash

I've been driving it now for 20 days. 2003 with 39700 miles.
I'm not in a rush to do anything but enjoy it. My first impression is that it feel like a combination of the RS America and the 993 that I owned back in the mid to late 90s. My coordination is coming back, along with the smiles.

Hello! I'm a long time reader here from Slovenia, Europe, and I joined just recently mainly because of the new-to-me 996. As a photographer I love the picture threads here (I like technical stuff here also, but so far I didn't need any tips as our 996 works like a charm
Here is my contribution to the thread: 996 40AE #1490
Stock. Three months since I picked it up. Still running it as is to make sure its as well behaved as I think it is. I do love it though. Puts a big smile on my face.
Mine.
Greetings ! Just arrived, my 1999 S. So freaking happy, can't drive it enough. Born on date: 11/98. Lots to share and ask, but that will be later after my evening pounce. 45k miles. 2 owners, they were neighbors. All records, clean as a whistle. These are pics from the test drive, need to take more. Thanks to this great group of folks for educating me and giving me confidence in finally pulling the trigger.
FYI, Redbull just paid a 13 Million Dollar settlement because of that slogan. Apparently, Redbull does NOT give you wings:

Wow a lady who buys mod Porsches are just a few, but
you should consider a Porsche purse to match with the car, welcome to the board!!!!!!
Hi all... new to the site. What a great source of information and thank you all in advance for your informative (and fun) posts. Thought I'd include my Nr. 1375 40 Jahre in the thread. X74 suspension lowers it 2" and turns it into... well... a Porsche
MrBigglesWorth : these wheels are stock OEM Porsche Turbo II 997.2 19" wheels . I sourced them off eBay....new but were expensive. $5000 included wheels , Michelin Tires, TPMS and shipping...these were new car take offs with zero miles. These are forged and weigh about 34lbs each which is pretty decent for wheels of this size. I am using 7mm spacers front and rear....but they fit nice without spacers. Stock these are : Front 19x8 ET56 rear: 19x11 ET 51
I looked at a lot of aftermarket but finally decided on these because they really updated the look. I get a LOT of compliments
Thanks man - they are awesome. I completely agree really update the look without pretending to be something else. The cost kills me though I will have to start a oem vs replica thread when I'm ready to buy about a $4000 difference.
No I kept the gauge rings stock matte silver....I have the factory carbon fiber package and biggest change is the custom made flat bottom , fat steering wheel which made a BIG diff in the car interior.
And yes, I agree about the outrageous price for the wheels....problem is I couldn't find these same wheels made on the aftermarket so I bit the bullet.
^^^^ Very nice interior.
This I have to disagree on however. ANY 19" forged wheel should not weigh 34lbs. Have you checked for part number stampings on the wheel for authenticity by chance? As a reference, my 19" Champion Motorsport forged wheels weigh 19/21 lbs respectively. If they are truly 34lbs, you're carrying around a lot of unsprung weight and diminishing some level of performance. However if looks are you primary concern, this may be a moot point.
OEM always weigh more....however, at this stage of life I am totally into form over function (within reason). I am probably making up for abusing a whole lot of cars in my earlier life .
And yes, these are the real deal ..all stampings have been verified...and although I bought these off eBay , they were through a Porsche dealer in Oregon.
I agree with that but they generally weigh slightly less than their cast counter parts all the time. I guess I was just surprised by those figures, considering forged + Porsche.
Anywho, sweet looking wheels and enjoy.
Interesting that now that we have been having this discussion I have been checking on line and some sources are saying 24 lbs front and 27 lbs rear...not sure what these weight anymore.
I'm pretty sure that is more inline. 24/27 sounds right for factory forged. I mean even their cast wheels aren't 34 lbs. I'm not sure how you got the 34lb figure initially.
Thanks...not sure where I got that figure either. Although these same style wheels are available on the aftermarket, I try my best not to buy knock offs of anything.....no offense to the Chinese, of course.
My view is that any knock off is not a good buy...whether it be for patent infringement or potential crappy quality.
Actually come to think of it, the aftermarket copycat cast version of these wheels are probably 34lbs. Maybe that's where you got it mixed up from. That sounds about right for copycat cast 19" rims. I had copycat 19" lobster claws that were around that weight.

Where did you get that steering wheel and how much if you don't mind me to ask, I always tought the SW is too big and yours is perfect also de carbon fiber interior make the car looks great, my interior is gray, I'm planning to do the same it never going to look as good than when you have a black interior.

2003 Cab....bought this bc I needed money for the wedding and couldn't continue paying on a 2012 Lotus Evora IPS....which I LOVED!!!
However, this is damn fun and I'm enjoying every bit of it
Yes, I bought it from Yurii at Polar Porsche. I shipped it to San Diego where I work (I still live on the Jersey shore...long story). Nice to have on a year-round basis.
Here she is a few nights after I brought her home from Reno. Ended up cleaning the paint the old fashioned way with Zymol HD Cleanse and waxed her with Zymol Carbon, let's just say she needed it. Came out nice!
Today it was nice in Chicago, jacked her up, and cleaned the underside of the car and removed all the salt that was on her from the trip. Nice and clean now. Can be put away for winter without worry.
The headlight covers do not appear to be easily removed, so they are staying on. I don't mind them at all, but considering I don't have a car without them to compare them to, I don't know if it would look better without them.
I absolutely LOVE this car. Hopefully the engine doesn't blow up anytime soon.
Very observant they are rare as well as heated!
They did not come with the car, took me 10 years to find a set, yes all OEM leather, I had the backs painted black.

After 1 year with my new to me 2004 C2 and still smiling. Dropped her off at the detailer for a freshen up. Not a pampered and my DD with about 2K of freeway driving on a brutal interstate. Amazing how beautiful black is when is in top shape, better than new.
My new to me 2004 996 C4S cab bought back in September that will be my daily driver in Western PA. Replacing a 2004 E46 M3. First Porsche and frankly love it way more than the M3. You RLers helped me learn a ton about the 996 and make a fully informed decision. Thanks!

Thought I would show a few more pictures of Ocean Blue Metallic. I had a hard time finding pictures of this when considering buying my car. If it is overcast, it looks like dark blue and there is really no hint of metallic paint.
But in the sunlight it looks blue metallic from one angle, swap the angle and it looks purple metallic. I like it a lot!
Here is the blue angle:
Change angles and it looks purple:
OBM = Great paint/color... I love mine ! You don't mention it, but there's also a greenish element in there at certain light angles (hence the "ocean" part I believe). Anyway, nice shots...the car looks great!
Here's mine
It's a 1998 3.4 Carrera 2, has some nice factory options too.
Lsd, M030 suspension, BBS sport classics, leather dash, hard back seats.

thanks! seems to be dragging on and on this year...
Thanks! go fast/stop/turn parts, stock look
personally I like the stock rubber bumperettes or deletes, last pic is it sitting in basement/workshop storage
Thanks HolmaN! that's the Only one I ever Wanted! I've Never really liked the look of a stock 996, even when i first bought it i ALWAYS used the manual button to Keep the Stock Wing Up! Lol! As soon as i started it i would put it UP! I've just ALWAYS liked Spoilers/Wings on a Porsche! jmo!

Pulled mine out into the driveway for some fresh air.. I wanted to go for a drive, but there was Still salt residue on the road so I just ended up putting it back in...
^ My dentist gives me a hard time for not driving my 996 in the winter as he does with his 2000 or 2001 996 Cab every winter.
He told me last week his 996 has been sidelined the last few months because the power steering line rusted out, and Porsche and the shop he uses haven't been able to find the replacement parts yet.
It's been a great car in the snow. Use winter tires and you will be surprised how well they go.
Mines down right now, transmission is out (bearings going out).

Just bought the 996 Carrera to use as a track car. I wonder if the previous owner is on the board? I love the car. Badly needed new rotors and pads and a general cleanup. One track day on it to test and it needs a bit of TLC which I will give it ASAP.
The GT2 is just a "fast is fun car"
Love the CCW10's. Just wondering if you are going to get rid of those warts on your rear or retain them so you can not back into anything with the huge rear spoiler impeding your view.

Well, I started the day thinking I was going to come home with a 2000 Mirage/Black 996 C2 Cab 6-speed, and instead I came home with a 2002 Arctic Silver/Dk Blue 996 C2 Cab Tiptronic. The more I drive the Tip, the more I like it. And that's from a 10 year history with manual 911s. The smile tonight while driving around wrapped all the way back around to the back of my spine. (How's that for a halloween image?)
(Yes, it needs a pumpkinotomy.)
Thanks! I don't think they have, but it's possible. The prior owner took great care of her. Oil changes every 3K miles, etc.
I thought Silver was going to be boring, but I'm surprised how much I really like this color combo.
Just picked her up a few days ago. 2002 C2. I had the local Porsche dealer do a PPI and CPO inspection and it passed with flying colors. RMS and IMS bearing already complete. She's tip top.
2002 C4S
FVD Brombacher stage 2, tune, exhaust, sport cats
107k mile, driven daily 50 miles, like I stole it (after warm up phase)
For sale as I am upgrading to. 2009-2012 C4S.
Hi. New member from Trondeim, Norway. This is my -99 996 C2. A US car imported to Norway in 2010. Put on a H&R Cup Kit earlier this year. And are planing to change the front bumper and some side skirts this winter while it`s in the garage.
Just picked up this 2000 C2 last week. The detailing place I went to made a video.
2000 Porsche 911 Carrera | Single-Step Correction | Chicago Auto Pros - YouTube
My recently purchased 1998 996 3.4 with matching seats, original paint, motor, bodykit and full carbon, Leather and Suede interior, the car is as close to new condition as a 17yr old can be its had the ims done as a matter of course by the po who happened to be a concourse judge, ill keep this for a long time,
Thanks, it's a 2000 model silver over gray, 6 speed. It's a low option car with psm, silver gauges and that's about it. I've added ohlins coilovers and the MY02 wheels. It's getting the aero pieces this winter.
I'm new here and just picked this up last week. This is my first Porsche. I have driven a few before and even was allowed to borrow one for a couple months. The borrowed one was a 05 Carrera S w/ceramic brakes 6spd. Very fine car and ever since then I knew I had to have a Porsche. This is the one I got it's a 01 Carrera 4 blk/blk 6spd. Rebuilt/resealed engine because of a cylinder crack issue. At that time cylinder heads were completely gone through and a new clutch and the IMS fix was done. all this 15K miles ago. Just had a major service done and runs great not a drop of oil on or under the car. It had brand new front seats installed and some suspension items like end links and control arm bushings replaced. The car was driven because it has 123500K miles when I bought it, but with the recent work and how tight it drives I'm not afraid of the miles I know it was loved. I figure all the problems have been driven out of it. I only wish I didn't wait so long to get one. The previous owner upgraded to a new Carrera 4S.
I don't know why I can't pm you but my email is Mendocino (at) autistici.org . That avatar is awesome I searched google images and couldn't track it down.
Thanks!
Thanks for the compliments guy's and Cheekybird you too have a sweet looking ride. I considered a cabriolet for my purchase mostly because it seem that was all their was for sale here in sunny San Diego. Perhaps my "next" one will be. I'll start dropping hints to the wife just as soon as she's completely over me basically showing up at home with the one I did get. Yes it was a tense couple of nights.... I think she secretly really likes the car.
The one and only "$64,000 1999 stock C2 cab." Yes as you guys recall a used the catch phrase, "the $64,000 question is...." and someone took it literally and then the usual suspects ran with it.
Any way...some more info. is in the post "purchase help, interesting twist"
To review here, 1999 C2 cab., arctic silver metallic, 60K miles on car, 38K on engine. In 08/2004 it suffered the oil coolant mix and killed the original engine.
Shipped from NC as described in great shape..even better than I had hoped. Had to fix a vacuum leak issue and that's it. Everything else I'm doing is preventative and too get it to where I want it.
After lurking here for about a year and half, reading posts and learning about these cars, I finally found my car and decided to post. I knew I wanted one ever since I saw an orange 911 in the mid-eighties.
This is a 996.2 C4S with 81K miles when I got it in April and have logged about 5k miles and have loved every single mile! Every time I glance at my side view mirror and seeing the wide fenders always puts a smile on my face - aside from the handling and the noise the flat six makes of course
Anyway, here she is...
SportTechno with LM 25s for the Chicago winter, OEM turbo twist for summer and also have TechArt 19"s but no tires yet.
Wrapped the headlights just to see if I like the look.
Came with two keys and bought the case from suncoast; made the strap and hand sewn the silver stitch on both for less than $10...couldn't bring myself to paying $100+ for the original GT3 strap....
Bought this on a whim... Great decision!
2000 C4, 36k miles, $22k, not a scratch the on her. They say IMSB replaced... No proof so installed IMS gaurdian. Installed SSK today. Put 4k miles on already. Only problem Nexen tires and cold flat spots.
Gotta love garage queens!
Ive been lurking for a while since I decided to start looking for my 911. I finally bought 1st ever Porsche. 2003 from my local dealership. Glad to be part of this group!
Elon - Sweet photos of a great looking car. What a stunning color. I love rear wipers as well.
mp2day - Welcome to the 996 family. Great looking p-car as well. I drive my C4S daily because I can't keep away from her. Enjoy!
Bought it in August 2015. Drove from Phoenix to San Diego and couldn't be any happier. Love it a lot and can't wait for the rain in SoCal to stop so I can take it for a nice drive after over 3 weeks not being home.

Yeah, I did not personally install them. The previous owner fitted them although I still have the original 996 turbo seats in my man cave. I was told the 997 seats fit perfectly because they use the same rail. They look and feel great. Very ergonomic. And the seat backs are painted to match the car.
I know I've already shown off my 996, but after four years and tens of thousands of miles, I still love this car. I'm normally a swapper - a new fun car every couple of years - but I honestly have not come across a car that speaks to me more than my 996.
It even looks fast at the smog check shop...
Thanks! I love it. It took me a long time to decide on it. I wanted something classic and unique. Even though its an "old" color it almost makes the car look newer.
Suggestion: It would be a real timesaver for both you and the five-oh to make up some handouts with the license number, VIN, registration docs, and your license. This should speed up the traffic stops that I imagine happen at least 3 times a day when driving a car that color.
I thought the attorney's stupid Guards Red car was eye-catching. That car is the color of "65 in a 35!"
Very Nice! This is truly one of the most rarest factory colors for the 996 out there. I've only seen two so far. Can anyone else think of some other factory color that is more rare on a 996?
While not as new or as fast, I have never seen another Viola Metallic car like mine. I know there is another Mk-1 Cab of this colour somewhere in Toronto area owned by a Rennlist member since he posted up 3+ years ago (without a picture) when I asked how rare is this colour. However he does not come out to any of the local events and rarely posts.
I saw a cab in Viola Metallic at the Hershey swap meet a couple years ago ... only one I've ever seen. Also the only place I've ever seen another cab in Paladio Pearl Metallic, although I have seen a few for sale online.

Thanks. No, I didn't change the harness
,
but I think I'm going to. I did the 'jump trick', connecting the number 2 and 5 pins but the dash spoiler indicator stays red, so I think I didn't do it properly. Also the extra spoiler motor spur of the loom doesn't pack away too neatly. I think the best option is to buy one from ebay and do it properly.
Well, I think that may be my problem. I didn't connect any pins
I cut the wires after the connector and joined them that way. I think it's possible the current still may have to go all the way, albeit with both wires connected. Not being an electrical expert, I don't really know. I've also seen a diagram showing that 2,5 and 6 need to connected but I'm not certain of the accuracy of that as most posts say just to jump 2 and 5
Thanks. I did the same by connecting the two wires together as well. It successfully fixed the light but I wish there was a clean, more stock-looking way to "jump" the pins together. So far I haven't stumbled upon
That's bad news for me then as I must have joined the wrong wires, or one of them must be wrong at least. I'll have to take another look. If you can remember, are your wires both on the same side of the 6 (two rows of 6) ? I think mine are but you'd think that they shouldn't be as one is even (2) and one is odd (5) numbered.
I don't remember which side is which but color the color coding of the wires from this diagram to figure it out. Jumping 2 to 5 is the correct method.

THANK YOU.
Wish I could say I was the modifier... I purchased it with kit in place as is. I still get lots of oogles, leers, and offers. But i'm not ready to part with my vainness just yet (LOL).
I used my Festool random orbit 5" with some Lake Country cutting/polishing pads. Glaze then finished with carnuba. Easy, safe and no swirls like you can get from a standard orbital polisher.
I could tell it looked good with the number of middle fingers people shot me for no reason! Got to love Milwaukee!
Love Speed Yellow on a 996, so do the State a Troopers!
Our first 911, a pleasure to tour with the top down and HPDE with the top up. Bonneville Salt Flats, Pikes Peak, California Highway US-1, SUV trails in Colorado and cross country by the Northern and Southern routes. I love the 996 Cabriolet C2 with the six-speed Getrag. Spouse prefers her Cayenne S with an eight-speed Aisin AW Tiptronic S and air cooled seats.
"Yellow Peril" at "Sweet Sixteen"
still gets a lot of attention when on the street. Currently in dry dock being refitted with a Raby Stage 2, 3.8l engine, Bilstein (B16) PSS10 suspension and Brembo PCCB. She has to keep pace with modern equipment.

Picked my Porsche up today and drove it a few hundred miles through thunderstorms and a second or two of hail (yikes!). All's in good shape, not showroom condition, but mechanically solid and just in need of a good detail.
'99 C2 arctic silver with red leather interior (unff), lsd and a few other goodies, 82k on the odometer.
A 2004 C2 with only few options. H&R coils and Koni yellows, HID light and upgraded stereo, all wrapped in a seal gray skin, currently at 83 k miles with non serviceable IMS bearing. Just arrived in Carlsbad after a 1700 miles drive from San Antonio, TX.
Dan_198 In the hands of the previous owner the engine had an IMS failure while starting the car, I was told. Porsche San Antonio repaired the engine (not replaced with a crate engine) under warranty and replaced most internals, including the IMS with the larger bearing. After 35k miles the engine is running fine and strong.
Bought mine a long time ago but still happy to share pics. Here are a couple of quick pics I took of my 2004 C4S...
Sharkwerks tune, Fabspeed exhaust, EvoMS headers, EvoMS airbox, B&M short shifter...otherwise stock.
Triple grey: Seal grey with grey top and grey interior.

Thanks woodman its zenith blue, I think it's quite a rare colour??
Engine fully rebuilt by me in my spare time over the past year or so , everything replaced , bearings, chain rails , chains , eps roller bearing ims, cylinders re machined and strengthened by Hartech, piston crowns ceramic coated with Teflon coating on the skirts , cylinder heads rebuilt, new guides and seals , valve seats re ground, valves cleaned and re surfaced, new AOS 997 type Rms , new oil pump, new clutch, just tweaking out the last few bits before I get her on the road 😄😄
Wow Noz, that's amazing. I'm envious of people like you who can do such things with engines and what not. Must be a cool feeling as you drive knowing everything that's moving you forward was touched by your own hands. Bet you missed driving her for a year, too!
Did your old engine fail, or did you buy a roller and rebuild a blown one?
02' C2, Polar Silver, Metropol Blue Full Leather Interior, MY 02's (18" Pressure Cast Alloy Carrera Wheels), Technic Package, Comfort Package, etc. Purchased April 2016, Proactively completed IMS bearing service (LN engineering Pro Dual Row bearing).
Thanks woodman!!
I bought her with a blown engine originally me and a friend were going to break her to sell the parts and make a bit of cash but when the guy dropped her off I just thought no way!! So I dropped the engine and box and stripped the original engine down. ( it would not turn on the crank , bad sign!!)
The engine had popped a core plug in the cylinder head and water got into the oil system, when I got into the bottom part of the engine i found that a rod had seized on the crank so the crank was toast and the rod plus scoring on a couple of the cylinders etc.
On a good note I actually made £1800 from the good parts , the heads some of the Pistons , one guy even bought a case half off me even though I told him they were a matched pair!!
I then bought a running engine from a local porsche breaker but decided to strip this down and totally go through it with new parts, it's been really enjoyable although a bit tight in my single garage!!!!
With a bit of time and patients I'm sure anyone can do it , you just need to be careful and not rush into anything before doing your research.
Check out 986fix on YouTube , it shows a guy fully rebuilding a boxster s engine, I actually used this to help me when I got stuck , it didn't give all the answers but was a help!!
Thanks Slakker!! Can't wait to properly get her on the road!! Had a sneaky drive around the block last week, almost couldn't stop at the bottom of the road because of surface corrosion on the disks, hope they clean up after a few miles!!
Also got a problem with idle , going to check the ICV tomorrow!!
*I don't mean to clutter this thread, but im having a hard time finding used 996 C2 mufflers for sale on the web... in your guys experience of being on rennlist how often does a set pop up?
PS. Snappy924, your car looks amazing and the condition is outstanding compared to mine.
Start a WTB (want to buy) thread in parts marketplace and bump it once a week. Also, PM the guys that have a "parting out 996" ad and see if they have one. GL.
Family is together this weekend to celebrate my brother's graduation. Some good cars and good people. I'll replace the potato picture with a real one when I get back to my laptop.
1999 Carrera 6 Speed. Arctic Silver Metallic on Black
Wanted a stock looking car that was reliable with all the enjoyable mods for the full experience. Rebuilt the motor with quality parts. Had the heads polished. EPS IMS bearing, EPS Upgraded clutch. Stainless steel headers. Suspension refreshed. Litronics, LED tailights, short shifter. New pictures with the new parts to come soon, in the meantime here are some pictures of how I bought the car.
After many aircooled 911's over the last 25 years, I finally succumbed to the modern 911. What a easy car to drive stupid fast. The PSE sounds awesome. You must own a aircooled 911 for awhile to appreciate how good the newer 911's are.

Our cars could be dead ringers. I so want to put some C4s stripes down the side. My wheels are matte, and I would love to do the graphics in matte as well, but I am afraid of how to care for them.
Are your's matte? What do you do to keep them clean?
Went to a PCA get together this morning and took the scenic route home

cinellipro,
Just want to say. I never saw a white mk1 in person and most of the shots I've seen were pretty lousy but your car and Slakker's new track toy have convinced me. The Mk1 looks great in white. My favorite color for it by far. Even like the orange. Also those have got to be the clearest headlights I have ever seen on a Mk1. Outstanding!

These interiors are not from my car but they highlight the clean old-school look as mentioned by crmcgregor. I think these provide a convincing argument for the front console delete. Also when traveling with someone my phone goes next to the emergency brake handle, but indeed the phone would be better in the frunk.

The more I look at it and drive it, the more I like this future classic...
My black & tan 2000 C2 Cabriolet just after I got it. Working on installing rear window regulators now... Not an easy job.
The car in my avatar was my father's '69 911T from back in the day... Timing chain took that one out, and it was too rusted to restore. It was scrapped sometime around 1980.
Opinions....decals or nah? Personal opinions, I know, but I can't decide if I love 'em or hate 'em. I suppose that if I got a set I could easily remove them if I hate 'em, but is it "just right" or "too much"?
couple track shots and a cool night shot by my buddy...

If you peel back the frunk liner on the right side you will see a plastic plaque with the color. It will say Lago Gruen (sp?). Lake green or as they say Dark Teal in the US/Canada. I have your cousin a 2003 C4S in this color, its sharp and chances of running into someone with the same color even on rennlist is rare! You're the first I've seen other than mine.
Love the color at dusk. I have an Alpine system with black full leather interior. Thought about upgrading interior lights too. Might as well do it, where did you get your kit from? Ebay?
I picked up the leds from a local aftermarket supplier... Paid a bit more for brighter longer life units made in japan. Being nocturnal .. I spend a lot of time at night with the beast.. And love the improved intensity and crispness. Utube tutorials were helpful and the whole conversion was less than half an hour.
Teal at sunset is awesome.. I arrived at the same conclusion shortly after purchasing the car at the beginning of the summer. Every service pro ive met confesses theyve never seen this combo b4. I love how the subtle and discrete traits of the color blend perfectly into bodywork that (imo) is equally low key.. Sans the monster front air intakes. Trying to resist the urge to go mod crazy.. Any plans for future upgrades yourself?
I did H&R Sport springs with Bilstein B8's last April. I'd argue that the ride is better (albeit a little stiffer) than with the stock springs and struts/shocks (Bilstein B4). Still very smooth (not jarring at all) but tighter feeling. The look is 1000 times better ** I also installed mono ball camber plates up front.
I've also got a brand new pair of B8 front struts "left over" (long story, but suffice it to say that due to a ordering/shipping screw up, I got stuck with extra front struts...) - if you're interested PM me...
It's been awhile since this was posted...
Sorry...
That was 11.5k miles... NOT 115k... I found her with 6800 k miles. Damn near perfect in all respects. replaced the OE Pirelli's and also the IMS...The final "solution" for good measure. Of courser the bearing was perfect. Makes a nice paperweight now. And yes,,,Did the RMS as well...

Nice, mine is 6 speed C2 also. I have been considering some graphics (Carrera door sill perhaps) to set it apart. I hadn't considered stripes until I saw yours.
$7000 these days !!! I will never forget myself for not putting a OE one on when they were like 1200$ or so !!!! I have seen one on a 996 C2 and looks amazing !!!!
(ok, I just fell outta my chair) $8000.00 for this spoiler???????!
Do they realize that's almost half of what are cars are worth?
$1000 - yes... $2000 - maybe... $8,000 smackers!???
Hell no! Aint gonna fall for NO banana in my tailpipe!!!
Beautiful 996! I usually prefer stock wheels, but those are gorgeous and update the car's appearance. That colour combo is probably one of my favourites, too.
It's Arctic Silver Metallic
Just Eibach springs and swaybars, Bilsteins, Milltek exhaust, and some interior mods, clear corners, silver badge, other silly details.

I shopped for wheels for about 6 months. I wanted something lightweight that wouldn't change the dynamics of the car while staying within a reasonable price range.
I went with Platinum Satin AT4 19" Wheels from Wheel Dynamics. They are not forged but are lightweight. WD said the wheels are manufactured using Low Pressure Casting. The fronts (19x8.5) weigh 21.75-lbs. and rears (19x11) weigh 25-lbs. I am running a 235 in the front and a 295 in the rear. I weighed the new wheels w/ tires and the stock Turbo Twist w/ tires (solid spoke). They weighed the same.
http://www.wheeldynamics.com/porsche-cars.html
Let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you, yours as well! I'm very happy with the car. The salesman I worked with said your new C4S was pretty heavily modified. What does it have besides the wheels?
Thanks, i'm happy with it so far, still learning about the car but basically, it has headers , fabspeed exhaust, air intake and the ecu has been tuned , sport suspension with GT3 control arms. Looking into getting different wheels for it too.
Excellent to hear you are running some Fabspeed! Maxflo or Supercup?
I'll shoot you a PM about the wheels, there are a lot of options out there and I have close relationships with most all the wheel manufacturers
Holy Crap! (no pun intended) But did they gang up on your or was that definitely prehistoric crap encounter?
Serious, you need to remove that asap or it could damage the clear coat.
Ask me how I know.
I got off the plane and this is how I found it- in the parking garage! I washed it off as soon as I got home. I have seen how this stuff can eat right through clear
coat. I just can't imagine what size beast dropped that!
Bought her last August. Did a full service as well as an IMS replacement with the LN Ceramic bearing. Also a little bodywork on the rear bumper and the front quarter panel. This car has not disappointed me one bit!
I was about to say that looks like Hawks Cabriolet. Hopefully, you won't have the "transport mode" problem like Hawk has been experiencing.
Let us know how it works out!
My 99 C2, came with Fabspeed Intake, Wheels, and Eibach Springs. I have since November installed IMS Update, Supercup Mufflers and a new double din radio. Now I'm broke for a little bit. This pic was on the ride home to Upstate New York from Boston.
Hey all!
New member here and figured I would start my first post with an introduction and a couple of pics of my new to me 1 owner '04 C4S with only 12k miles.
I was looking for the "right" car for some time and as soon as this popped up, I had to have it. Coming from an E60 M5 so I do miss the acceleration but wow! What a great handling analog sports coupe.
It has all the options I was looking for (Full leather, PSE, short shifter, xenon etc...). Did my research on Rennlist, Renntech and 6speed so LNE IMS upgrade planned for next month. Already changed the oil and swapped out the tires. Looking forward to contributing and hopefully a meet up at some point (CT member here).

This my 12k mile beauty. Bought it with 10500k. Not many out there with these low miles. Did the Single row pro LN bearing and many other updates so shes real healthy. Love your wheels.
She's a beauty, JB. Just ordered the Hella smoked corners. Any other recommended upgrades? I'd like to keep it relatively stock so focusing on maintenance items first.

Sweet ride, Tony. Do you have a side shot of your car with the spacers? I used to run 12mm ECS' on my last ride and have been considering them for the C4S.
MY GOD that is insane! I would have cried inside seeing that
Excellent to hear you're rocking out intake and supercup exhaust! If there's anything else we can help you with please reach out to me any time
It is an older system, but that is definitely our Sport Cat X-pipe. Do you have any better pictures of the mufflers or headers?
Thanks, here's a shot of the rear. The fronts are slightly inside the fender lip while the rears are flush to even a mm or so outside. Kind of reminds me of the resto-mod look on the aircooled cars.
I actually bought two sets accidentally & have 4 new-in-box 15mm spacers with bolts for sale. PM if you're interested.
Its a bit different from our current generation 996 Sport Headers from what I can see from the primary tubes and the length of piping after the merge collector. However, that is definitely a cast merge collector which we use. Usually there is a Fabspeed tag somewhere, but it certainly looks like it could be an original version of ours.

Recently installed some reclinable alcantara/carbon fiber Sttus SPA seats. Some of the most comfortable seats I have ever sat in. Just took a 4hr drive in them 300 miles and felt great getting out of them. Highly recommended!

A few summers back, I found a road from my youth. The summer day and gentle breeze were beckoning me to take a drive. I headed east, crossing from Kansas into Missouri. Roads change there. They move with the land, rising and falling. Curves guide you to your destination. Half an hour into my drive I found a memory. A road I use to bicycle along when I was young. The hills were steeper then, the curves more dangerous. I stopped to take a picture. A picture to member where I was, where I am now, and where I will be going. #PCA #Porsche

We played hooky from work Tuesday morning to go see the remarkable wildflower bloom in the Anza Borrego Desert. Depart at the crack of dawn, through the mountains at sunrise, back by noon to do some work. The car was fine, I am getting better at Tip shifting. The appearance of the front end in someone's rear view mirror must be somewhat intimidating since a lot of them pulled over to let us by. It was great, the first longer fun drive, this car performs really well. (except: I am still studying all of the posts here about keys and the alarm / lock system).
I can tell you:
The MK1 tip is somewhat sluggish, only 5 shift modes. The MK2 tips have 250 or 500 shift modes, I forgot. Both suck in "A" mode, unless you are stuck in traffic. Then, they are a pure joy.
99 % of people who rag on a tip have never driven one.
I thought it might be best to add some more details about Tiptronic notes here:
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...e-driving.html
rather than on this thread. And am hoping others will add their knowledge and experiences there as well.
Here are today's comments in response to the above question:
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...l#post14041854
But to add context for my views,
1. I came from a '93 968 with Tiptronic and very much liked it. That car is a 4 speed Tip and manual shifting is via the stick (no steering wheel buttons).
2. Since this is my first month of owning the 996 I sure am longing for a stick to really explore the limits of this wonderful car. That exploration has been more difficult with the Tip. I really want to get a feel for the 4WD, and experience the PSM, but haven't yet accomplished that.
3. No regrets at all on buying the Tip. All my Porsches have been daily drivers and around town, in freeway traffic, etc. the Tip is great and the stick would have no enduring advantage for me.
-- Roland
Roland, that thread was great. It seems that with practice/time you come more in tune with the system, and I can see how daily driving and city driving make a tiptronic valuable.
I think this thread should be stickied on the main 996 forum. I know of several 996 enthusiasts that love looking at the pictures of all the cars. Its a big incentive to get onto the forum.
What do you guys think?

Hello All,
I've been lurking in the 996 forum for a year or two and I thought I'd introduce myself.
I roll in a pretty stock 2001 996 Cab Lapis blue with beige (my wife calls it babypoo) interior. Socal, so i can drive it top down most of the year.
here are some grabs of my first 911
well, that's all for now.

I'm never going to wake up to shoot an empty beach. Here's something on the way home from lunch...just a base black on black cab. That last pic epitomizes having a 15 year old car, adding it to the list haha. Hmm in hindsight I should have removed that trash. And yes, pumpkin replacements are en route.
BTW, Long Beach Grand Prix on Sunday. If you want a unique photo op, you can probably take pics on the course Monday early morning (it's a street circuit).

Just got paint correction performed on my car, the guy spent 10 hours on the exterior, now for me to do the interior.
For the record, I would like to see if I can remove the headlight covers. Must take one out again and try it once more, but they were on there pretty good. Have a video of the car from 1 year before I bought it, they were on then....so they have been on for at least 4 or so years now. Wouldn't think it would be that hard to remove, but don't want to hurt the plastic lens.
Taking my "new to me" C2 in Ocean Blue Mettalic in for paint correction in a couple weeks...so looking forward to it. It won't take care of all of its warts (a few too many stone chips for that), but it should look good...hopefully as good as yours.. Will post then.

This one is called Soggy Dry Lake in the Lucerne Valley off the 247 (?). There are many dry lakes in the SouthWest to drive on. Las Vegas has a few, SoCal has a few pretty much around every second corner.
And no, it's not salt, it's sand. Still messy, though.
Ps: Make sure to drive the area slowly at first. Nasty ridges can go undetected otherwise, making for brown moments in high-speed drives.
Also, depending on the weather leading up to the day driving on it, burn-outs may not be a good idea. Within 5 minutes of us arriving and setting up the camera, a modded jeep managed to flip on its roof while attempting that.
Made for quite a scenic backdrop..
Car looks good -
Are those 997 wheels ? the bigger 19" ?
The size looks right with the gap between them and the car -
either that or you have lowered it- but it looks good.
Hi everyone,
I'm new here and I want to post our Porsche project that we start on youtube... what do you think, will be interesting this? Should we upload more something like this?
You Tube
Those are the 18" 996.2 despite my car being a '99 ('98 technically). Bought it like this from PO.
I've got the sports suspension (code M030), thus the slightly lower ride height. Replaced the shocks with Bilsteins 10k miles ago.
I love the look of the wheels. They're fairly wide too: 225 in the front and 285 in the back. Grip for days..
See here :
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dry_lake
Wash your car really well after driving on these areas...especially the undercarriage/nooks& crannies...
Finally got mine paint corrected....looked like the PO had washed it with a Brillo pad. Much, much better now, but still a few warts. Work done by Automobilia, in West Haven, CT. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't really cooperating for a good photo shoot. I was looking for a good location on the way back to work after picking up the car and drove this ridgetop road loaded with $1,000,000+ homes and was gonna pull into the driveway of one and snap some photos with the car/house and valley spread out behind it, but I chickened out, lol
That looks great. Is that a respray or just a good detail? I just paid a detailer $200 to get the swirls / toddler decorations and it's pretty meh. Feel like I should've bought a good orbital and done it myself.
Mine is a track toy, an 02 C4S. I bought it brand new in 02, plan was to wax it on Friday, drive it on Saturday Sunday only if the sun was shining. Yup, that lasted maybe 3 months. Then, I went to my first DE.
On the way to fun
I went with one of the Ceramic Pro paint protection deals. full cleaning of exterior, clay bar, two stage machine polish, full IPA wipedown, and 2 coats of Ceramic Pro (5 year guarantee...no wax required in that timeframe, requires a yearly wash and inspection by the installer).
Probably paid to much for unicorn dust, but will see. Regardless, it is one hell of a detailing job. They did want me to respray the bumper, hood, and fronts of the fenders to make it really look new, but I did not have that in my budget and I am fine with the few remaining warts. Car still looks great and, since it isn't going to be garage queen, it won't be long til there are more new warts.
I don't know how much you paid, it seems to have worked. I just dumped $200 for marginal results. I'll look into the ceramic pro, 5 years without wax is a lot of time savings.
Some beautiful cars on here.
Six years after selling my lovely Zermatt Silver 964 turbo, last month I bought a 47k mile Zanzibar Red C4 with factory Aero Cup kit, Sport Design wheels, M030, sunroof delete, sports seats, 3 spoke steering wheel and carbon gear **** (shifter) and handbrake lever. Zanzibar Red was the launch colour for the 996.1 GT3. I first saw one at at Goodwood Racing Circuit back in 2007 and always thought what a beautiful colour - it changes from red to orange depending on the light. The only changes from factory are Topgear headers and Dansk mufflers with the (original) Porsche PSE tips, as well as a Kenwood double DIN head unit.
I see a lot of great cars and fantastic scenery on here - my photos are taken in Cornwall right down at the South West corner of the UK, which has some good scenery too!
I just purchased this 996 C4S. My first Porsche! I take possession of it next week. I went back about 40 pages to see if someone had posted it previously. 42k miles and in beautiful condition.
Getting IMSB replaced and also getting a Kenwood DNX893s radio/navigation installed.
My son and I picked up this 1999 996 Zenith Blue Metallic RWD Coupe. We believe it to me bone stock, but we are not sure about the gunmetal turbo wheels. Was the gunmetal rim color an option?
We have since added window tint and plan on doing things like marker lights and front bumper tag holder delete.
Thx.
Doug

Nice cars guys. I'm really enjoying my 996 Carrera, I bought it with interest in upgrading down the road. I'm pretty new to Porsche, but not German Engineering, I think these 996 cars are amazing pieces of History, the handling and overall feel of these water cooled Naturally aspirations Carrera is very nice indeed. But I tell ya, they sure **** off the air cooled turbo guys to no end, at least here in the South they do, lol.
Svt. Beautiful car,/bfong very choice taist. I believe my 996 was original the color of you guys car. My 996 is a rescue, I really have pored blood and sweat all over my 996 getting her to perfect for me. Anyway, very nice cars guys. The 911 are so sexy.
Cleaning throttle body and mass air flow and the air delivery system
Just removed and clean the body drains that was completely stopped up, I think I'm going to leave them out.
My tires have some overspray, so I'm thinking Michelin Pilot Sports are next.

Recently purchased my first Porsche, a 2005 Black/ Black, 6 speed, Turbo S Coupe after owning eight Corvettes over the years. Please don't get me wrong, I love Corvettes and will always believe they are the best bang for the buck and the #1 American car. However, I think I just moved up a notch in the automotive ladder because this Porsche is far superior to any of my Corvettes in many ways. Comfort, speed, handling and more. I have not driven other Porsche models, so it's hard to compare a Turbo S against a regular Corvette, but I will say this, I am already looking for my next Porsche. Another Turbo S or maybe a GT3 or possibly just a Turbo. It will be a pre-owned car because of my budget, but I know it will be great.
a) They mow the grass today - this helps prevent me finding it covered in clumps of grass
b) it's hot as ***** in South Florida, so the cover brings the interior temp down to 2,000 degrees when I get in after work.
Without heavy modifications no, however you can bolt on the c4s/turbo front bumper to a c2 with the right parts.
There was also a C4S or turbo (can't remember) rear deck lid modified for a C2 for sale in a thread somewhere.
C4S Front bar bolts onto a C2 but there are more parts then just the bar required but no luck with the rear bar that wont work.
If you like the look of the C4S you're better off buying one rather than trying to convert it to look like one.
Dan - I'm on the hunt for a 02-04 996. So far I've test drove a 99' C2, an 02' C2 & an 01 C2 Tip. My favorite was the 02 C2, it has the 3.6L and I found it to have more umph and better pull. It was the most exciting 996 of the 3 that I drove. That's why I want an 02-04 coupe. Then there's the C4S which looks super sexy but I really do not need the all wheel drive since I live in TX where it's super hot and flat here. Ahh decisions decisions....
Have a watch of Jake's video it's basically 6 months of research you'd have to do yourself made into a half hour video. You can thank him and Charles post purchase
I have read tons and did as much research as I could about the 996 in this forum. Seems like Jake has super knowledge and expertise on this car but what I'm finding is his parts and repair is extremely expensive. I guess you get what you pay for. Where can I find his video?
I feel the same what about Tony. Great guy, great expertise, upfront and honest, but he's always telling me doesn't make any money on anything he does...including when he did my PPI. I think he needs a new accountant!
Picked up a 99 996 Cab for $8500! 120k mikes and work/mods so far....IMS, AOS, RMS, clutch, coolant tank and sensor, McMaster helper spring, amberectomy, 997 airbox, SSK, clean corners and LED turn signals with relay, H&R springs, new drop links, motor mounts...on order Forgeline F14's and Depo tail lights.

Very nice car!! Looks great! I was experimenting with the graphic on the side of mine. I have since replaced it with something that looks more subtle. lol
Oh hey new Arena Red buddy. I just grabbed mine a couple weeks ago and it's also a 99 PTS even though it was repainted and needs some sanding/buffing attention. It was an accidental beers and Ebay buy with a salvage title but it's still a lot of fun and a good deal for the money.
It's kind of a weird car for me since my 968 is more of a gokart and the 996TT is a rocketship, leaving the 996 as a good halfway point between the two, especially since I don have to feel bad tearing around in it. The poor thing is up on jackstands until inspection time in a few weeks because I stole the wheels for the 968.
Here's a bad picture of it from my phone.
JPpxEnVh.jpg
It's on Ceika coilovers which seem really nice but they're adjusted pretty badly at nearly fully dropped but softest setting plus the alignment is somewhat off. I can't adjust it without road time but can't get road time until it's inspected and street legal plus I temporarily stole the wheels for my 968 so I can't say for sure how good they can actually be though.
Their customer support seems great because I emailed the general contact page with a couple questions on setting them up and the main guy got back to me less than an hour later with answers, said he also has a 996 C2 and offered to help with setting them up better.
Thought I should submit an updated picture. iPhone pics so excuse my lack of quality. I think I need to put the PORSCHE stripe with script down the side in a dark gray. What do you think?

Is it just me? But I much prefer the simple pure clean lines of the C2.
Yes, I'm biased because this is exactly what I have (in Basalt Black Metallic) and I also have just got the car back today after the H&R lowering springs and Bilstein B8 sport shocks fitted - totally transforms the handling and the ride height is now correct rather than looking a bit like an SUV!
Same wheels as yours too - pics tomorrow.
It's not just you, the C2 of nearly all generations holds a certain appeal; simple lines, simple layout, no weight you don't need, etc. It's just another beautiful iteration of a top 5 sports car of all time.
took the 4x4 out for a spin yesterday
Adjustable drop links and beefed up sways have the C2 cornering extremely well. I'm thinking a bit of softening in the dampers is due, along with shorter & stiffer springs. It'll be the project for next summer to finish the suspension rework.
Picked up a project on Friday.
It was plasti dipped purple by the previous owner.

Plans are to go flat black or grey. Add a bike rack and get rid of those exhaust tips.
Here's mine with 234,000 KM or about 145,000 miles with the original engine the first day I looked at it. Metallic Black with full leather interior and lowered with factory kit a few years ago. I'm going to take the engine down and look into some oil leaks, replace the normal stuff... RMS, IMS, AOS, Oil Cooler, Water Pump, Spark Plugs and Tubes... I'm thinking of installing the rear main seal support bearing by EPS anybody done that? Anything else I should do while the engines out?
Fister mod if you don't care to pay $1,200+ for a complete system. About any good exhaust shop can do it for fairly cheap and you'll get a good rumble. Maybe $300?
Assuming it can be done on turbo models, I'm a pleb with an N/A so maybe someone else will chime in.
Well first and foremost, I'm here to check out your car. Let there be no mistake about that!
haha but yes, you would be correct!
I always take good care of my Rennlisters as well. We're running a sale right now too--10% off and free domestic shipping!
I for one don't mind the black ducts. Why not right?
Agreed though, trunk and it's nice and clean. John says its quick too, so I think we're all looking forward to seeing what its packin'!
My favorite sound on the 996 Turbo is our Supersport X-Pipe. It makes serious power from the decrease in restriction thanks to the high-flow HJS sport cats or free-flow catbypass pipes. The quad-resonated X-Pipe itself in the center of the assembly introduces the exhaust streams to one another with an elliptical contact zone; this produces a scavenging effect for more efficient power production! 32 HP and 37 TQ gains
I'll PM over some pricing on it for you
Here's a great video clip so you can hear how good it sounds!
You Tube
I figured as much from the watermark... didn't know if you were Jeff himself!
haha
What exhaust of ours are you running? Love the look and I hope it sounds as good
What front bumper is that?
Your car actually inspired me. It looks really good in your avatar and I always take a good look when I see you comment haha. Is your interior boxster red?
Right...
1) Wheels were prepped, painted, and satin clearcoated by a local shop. 30,000 miles later and they look pretty good still. Like a good driver quality. I don't kid-glove the car if you know what I mean .
2) Bilstein PSS9, H&R sway bars... it's low but it doesn't bottom out on speed bumps.
It also has a lightweight flywheel, RS motor mounts and a 997 shifter.
fun fact....it has done 245,000 km total (although there are only 125,000 km on the reman motor installed under warranty in 2005).
And that, dear Sir, is a stunner!
Only thing I wouldn't have done is ceramic it. It will eventually swirl, and then you have issues. Besides I love using my DA Rupes!
Oh, and I prefer the 996 lights rather than 997 lookalikes, bit that's purely personal.
Just got my coil overs installed and the new wheel and tire setup. Wheels are Kinesis K19R 3 piece forged 19x11.5" et51 305/25/19 and 19x8.5" et 50 235/35/19. Rear does not rub it clears the fenders 100% it did require a fender roll since its a 99 but unnoticeable from the outside.

I posted a couple crappy cell shots earlier, but took it out to grab a couple shots before she gets dipped.
The black is super sexy, but until I can find the time to park it and paint tthe bumper and fenders, it'll be dipped flat gunmetal with red mirrors and flat black for the skirts and tail.
What a cool build, once it's done it will be a real head turner. Wheels fit the car very well.
I'm officially a fan of the turbo front bumper on a narrow body.
Purchased last June with 69k on the clock, spent another $9k or so on IMS Solution, clutch, flywheel, trans and engine mounts, Bilsteins, H&R springs, drop links, painted interior console and thresholds, replaced seats with nicer non-powered ones, added Kenwood radio with GPS, coco mats, Function First shift ****, 997 short shifter, Andrews headlight covers, 997 classic wheels w/Pilot Sports, clear side markers. I will be doing low temp thermostat, water pump, pulleys and belt this winter. I like working on it almost as much as driving it!

If you do it yourself there is no additional cost and it took just under an hour for the whole process. My car is pretty clean underneath, so if your car has higher miles or corrosion, it may take a little longer. On Pelican Parts it states the time to do the project is 3 hours, so I would be cautious about using a dealer/indy.
Actually this was a promotion color that the factory messed up and didn't use the correct color code, so it's just "orange"... Unknown... they were fun but they are long gone...
I think it took me maybe an hour to replace my engine mounts, and my car has spent the last several years in the Northeast (although not driven much in the winter). With a good floor jack -- I used a long-arm 3 ton jack I bought back when I owned a FJ60 Toyota Land Bruiser -- it's pretty easy to support the engine while the mounts are out. IIRC I used a chunk of scrap 2x12 between the jack and the engine.
The surprise, at least for me, was how much I had to jack the engine up to get it back in place with the new mounts. My old mounts had sagged considerably, probably well over 1/2".

New-to-me 02 Cabriolet with 22k miles
There was a post in the classifieds last month for a 02 Cabriolet with 21k miles on it. The poster wanted $20k. This was relevant to my interests, so I contacted the poster. Long story short, he didn't have the Porsche, he had stolen the identity of the guy with the Porsche. After asking me to wire him $1000 I got suspicious and called the dealership listed in the service records and said "I'm going to read off an invoice number, a VIN number and a name. If the invoice and VIN match your records but the name doesn't, you should call the name you have in your records and let that guy know he's been the victim of identity theft." The shop was so impressed that I was a "good Samaritan" that they passed my number on to the actual owner - who had tried to sell the car in 2016 but balked when someone tried to phish his social security number. I paid more than $20k but not much more.
This was his "thinking car." He had a Lexus SUV with 300k miles and this 02 Cabriolet that he'd owned since 2002. He bought it with 6k miles on it and added less than a thousand miles a year for fifteen years. When he told the shop he was thinking of selling it in 2016 he did all the maintenance they recommended, which included IMS, clutch, 60k mile service, new top, new rear tires, new window regulators, new ignition switch, new battery, all in all $17k worth of parts and labor. Then he didn't for 18 months. The car hadn't even been registered since May 2016.
I picked it up last Thursday. Apparently I was the first of five people to call the shop, but the only one who *didn't* try to get the shop to breach client privilege (there might be a lesson there). I put an Android Auto/Carplay deck in (CAI audio are wholeheartedly recommended - they shipped me a box with everything I needed to swap the stereo in a parking garage) and proceeded to drive it up the Pacific Coast Highway to Seattle. My third trip, but first in a Porsche. 1500 miles in two days in an unbelievably sublime car. When we hit fog in Fort Bragg it was, according to the man I bought it from, the first time the car had ever encountered moisture.

Hi all
I just took home (actually last week) a 2000 C2 Cab, Iris blue with graphite full leather interior, sound upgrade (factory) three spoke steering wheel, headlight washers, hard top, heated seats and some more did bits.
It has 62K miles, was tracked and AX ed so it is not a garage queen - but I love it (see next why)
- Came with three sets of wheel (two Fikse)
- PSS9 / camber plates
- GTS F/R adjustable sways
- A/M short shifter
- FabSpeed headers cats
- Cryoed rotors
- Pagid Orange
- Street rubber has 1200 miles
- Sparco Milano seats with sliders
- Roll bar
- Car cover
- hard top holder/wall mount and a bunch of smaller items...
It is a hoot to drive..
That's what I'm thinking! I used to hate them, and now not only are they growing on me, I'm thinking they're going to make the car that much more unique and collectible (think: `63 split window corvette; it was a big flop that limited visibility to such an extent that owners had the glass changed and post removed, but now they are among the most valuable years). Plus it's the last "cable car" with cable throttle, frunk/lid releases, it's lighter than cars before and after it, the size is right. It's a drivers car.
Nice car. How do you like the shifter?
Hi everyone
I purchased this 2003 c4S in July with about 55k miles and a full service history. Basically just maintenance and IMS replacement.
Ive updated the exhaust to a sport unit and switched the sloppy stock shifter for a gt3 unit. Put in a dension gateway to connect via Bluetooth and upgraded the dash speakers.
I love that this car is just so good as an all rounder...
I tracked it a couple of times at a Porsche club event and will continue testing its all weather virtues as the winter approaches. So far so good !
cheers !
i love the short shifter. Not as short throw (loved that part) as my 2004 GT3 had and is easier to shift (did not love that part) and 3rd and 5th are not as close (really hated that part).

42K miles. Finally posting a couple more pics to satisfy you guys. The black leather steering wheel is a replacement for (cracked) burl. Really does not look or feel like a car from 2004.
thanks!! Unless I do a stupid human thing with it through excessive enjoyment. Have already had to make one avoidance maneuver, which was really mostly my fault, though Ive come through those curves many thousand times and never had a car backing out into the road there before, not to mention across three quarters of it. Maybe he decided the exit of a blind curve was a good place to turn his car around.
Anyway, the car slaloms beautifully. (Luckily there was enough pavement and no oncoming.) Just some tire chirp and flat, flat, flat.
But it I think I have to go watch some videos of people who should know better crashing their 911s, for restriction of enjoyment purposes.
Thnx, its not for everyone but I like contrasting colors. The wheels needed refinishing anyway so I thought why not
It inspired my Father In Law to get his done in a dark Bronze:
Both cars look excellent. Especially yours. Hey, if you ever end up selling that thing put it on here. I need an MK1 with aero in midnight blue in my life.
And full extended leather with painted sport seats
Yup will do. The ONLY reason I would sell it is if I somehow convince myself that the price of a GT4 is a good idea.
Great looking car. What wheels are those and the specs on them? Tires? I just bought a 01 Aero and yours has a great stance. What did you do to the suspension? Thank you.
No question that Pinky Lai produced a styling masterpiece.
Modern take on the classic 911 shape that is more balanced, integrated and cleaner than the later models, especially in side profile.
It's way past time that the 996 and owner needs to apologise or make excuses for its existence!
Amazing....I almost sent that "poster" money for that car as well. My gut told me there was something fishy about him and I'm glad I called the service dept too. The service tech couldn't give me information on the car but when I gave him more information on myself he put two and two together and saved me from making a huuuuge mistake. Such a nice car and great service history too. Glad it worked out. Enjoy!

It was a total score. It's got new Contis in front now because I basically annihilated the dry-rotted Rossos in front on the way up; the backs are five years old so they'll need to go next year (You can smell 'em after you've driven a while) but I mean, right now they've got pretty much the miles I've put on them plus like 300 more.
I've had a couple people say "but don't you need a family car?" to which I responded "my wife and daughter were in it when we did two 360s on diesel in the rain last week..."
Brought the 996 to TKX for some loving. Oil change & LN Screw on filter adapter upgrade, gear oil change (likely first time ever!) and a new key programmed. I wanted to welcome the P car to the neighborhood!
First post, pics coming soon as it rained overnight and it needs a good wash anyway.
Just picked up a 2003 C4S black/black. Has PSE, aftermarket wheels, and a lot of miles (82k!) but is in overall good shape for my first 911. Been a BMW guy as long as I can remember but after my experiences with their N63 TTV8 engine, I just couldn't give them any more money so I do the dad-SUV thing for DD and picked this up for Fridays/weekends and occasional track events. Will be searching out the upgrades threads for some stuff I can learn to do myself and keep this thing maintained and running for as long as it'll go. By the time I wear it out, I'm sure 991's will be a tad more affordable... I never was/am a huge fan of the 997s, PDK and other overall updates being considered. The 996 just always has had that "Look" to me, and never understood why it was looked down upon. Considered going Turbo given my love for the GT1, but, this is more my capability at this point. I can't imagine what this car could do with another 100+HP on tap.
Good to be part of the club and looking forward to learning a lot about our fantastic cars!

Say whaaaat? Whoever did the work did a good job. Maybe it's the angle of the photo but the rear end of your car looks like it needs about 3" of spacer. Do you have symmetrical wheels on your car?
Man i miss sebring on cold days like this in mid-atlantic. Ill be down in march in the rv for the 12hr lamans race. Probably wont bring the 996 though. I may be down there again this year for a 24hr lemons race. Anyways to get back on topic here is a pic of my $4500 roller that i got running for a few hundred dollars
. Its a 2000 c2 with a fair amount of suspension and maintenence upgrades. Also a pic of the rv if u see it at the track stop by and say hi.

that would be great but i doubt it, i wonder how to tell? Kind of new to this game. I bought the car to do an ls swap but fixed the cracked motor. It runs great now for a 198k car. Its got a bunch of decent track parts like gmg tie rods, rss dog bomes and gt3 arms. Ill probable upgrade the bilstien b4 struts and just drive the wheels off it.
Yikes thats a big hole! Great work fixing it though!
Don't go doing a Hoovie and blow it up though...
As for the wing, open it up and if its got a part number on the underside on the right, its genuine! Make sure you report back, i'm curious.
I think what the car has is a factory aerokit ll package. I guess thats a 6k set up, not bad. Not sure when it was done. It did have a glass out respray so i assume all that was done at the same time.
Definitely genuine! Nice find.
Although that particular wing and side skirts aren't the correct period for your car (if you're an aficionado) still looks great.

Yep on the roster for Saturday & Sunday. Looking forward to it! If you're headed there we should roll together unless you're doing Friday as well. I got a friend convoying up to RRR with me Friday afternoon
Of course. The front fenders are rolled and pulled. It's only obvious when its parked next to a standard 996. As far as setup, its got JRZ double adjustables, GT3 lower control arms, and ERP spherical steering arms. The upper shock mounts are pushed all the way out and the bottoms are pushed out such to provide 3 degrees of camber, track width is up around 20mm/side. The wheel and tire package is 997 GT3 9 & 12's with a 245/40r18 tire up front.
1999 Carrera 4. Just purchased.
No mods yet, many interior mods planned. O
nly thing done so far is replace the air oil separator that exploded 2 days after buying the car.
I've enjoyed my 2001 c2 996 coupe for almost a year now. Looking at upgrades and mods and already did IMS/RMS and age-related issues. What would you do if you were me and not looking to track but rather wanted a spirited daily driver?
This is what i did, after what youveyy already done, to my '03 C2 manual:
H&R lowering springs
Bilstein B8 Sport shocks
17mm spacers all around
Great ride height, and wheels flush with body.
Handling road biased, go coilovers for serious track work
Thanks Audidude, good insight. I like the idea of spacers/flush wheels. Is the ride too harsh with the h&r springs and bilsteins And, did you look at doing full bilstein suspension coil overs? I'm not going to track car and don't want ride to be back breaking
1 : the ride is definitely not harsh , my wife is happy with it!
2 : didn't want coilovers, as not tracking the car and spend enough time fiddling with the coilovers on my race car. If you like tinkering and tuning then coilovers may be best for you . You will definitely have more flexibility with them.
I have basically same setup Bilsteins, H/R Sport springs and H/R Adj Rear Sway Bar, w/ exception 15 F/23 R spacers.
Next add I'm thinking of is underdrive Pulley.
Ok, you guys convinced me on the B8/H&R setup. Seems like it's a popular set up and more affordable than PSS10s. Now time to scavenge the web for some deals.
I just did my springs yesterday and install a set of B&G springs, love the look now and the ride is even better, my wheels have a front offset of 50 and rears are 60, I am running 7mm spacers front and rears.
got profile pics of lowered cars?
Mine is factory sport suspension and I love the look, plus the wheels seem pretty flush to the fenders (maybe the rears could come out more, but not much). I'd like to see better comparison pics. Here's two of mine:

Just purchased my 2001 996 TT on Saturday. 86K miles, 6MT, Lots of new parts.
This car was formerly owned by Doug DeMuro (semi-famous youtube car review guy)
Here my thread.
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turb...996-turbo.html
Swole you did it! Congrats!
Super cool that you got an old "Doug Car"
. I've been watching his stuff since the beginning, practically. Now go get yourself a good aftermarket warranty and a Carmax evaluation, stat!
Thanks guys!! I think it was a great purchase. Not exactly what I was looking for (mainly color wise) but for the deal and condition (service records / recent major services), I don't think I'll lose any money when I decide to move on. Drove it a good bit today. I really like it.
Had mine home 6 weeks now, and already installed head unit/hands free, X51 Oilpan with aluminum trap doors, New GT3 wheels/tires, and front brake rotors/pads. I'll install GT3 control arms and adjustable thrust bushings up front with new tierods next, then move to the mounts for the transaxle/motor and then the rear dogbones.
For wheels, I am not sure what offset, but I got it from them,
http://www.carnewal.com/index.php
For tires, I am running 245/40ZR & 315/30ZR18 Toyo Proxes R888R. It did rubbing all 4 arches, need to roll all 4 fenders plus trimming some plastic inner fenders.
Hope it helps.

Mine is also with original rear deck lid but I think it looks much better with the rear wing. I am thinking of adding it to make the car bit more standout.

Thanks dedens! I picked up the darkest tint I could from Headlight Armor for taillight blackout, then used an Xacto knife to carefully trim the bottom piece to just blackout the white/clear lens. People seem to love the look, as do I.
That said, I'm not totally happy with how it turned out. From 10+ feet it looks great, but up close there's a decent amount of bubbles and waviness. If it doesn't work itself out in the next 10 days, I will pull them off and start over.
Not really sure what brand my wheels are as they came with the car when I purchased it. I actually have a set of Champion wheels Im getting ready to put on. Im just waiting for my tires to go bad as soon as I am due for a new set of tires, I will put them on my champion wheels & likely get rid of these wheels.
like your tailight! Thinking of copying it!
heres a pic of my champion wheels waiting to get back on the car.
Starting here, a sweet example with body coloured front lip clean *** and interesting wheels and headlight covers.
This mod taking the rear retro with smoked upper clears showing the full length rear reflector.
Granted it's a 930 I like Arctic Silver's *** better.
The tea tray's awkward, the bumper rubbers twenty pounds of bulbous, the fake bumper crumple plastics...cheesy.
Linen seats...sorry. Snorkel rear brake light...please.
Other than the Fuch's I'm not the feeling the love.
There's my old ride. Stellar as it was this one's better.
In my opine mistered paint those rear bumperettes body colour then maybe plastidip the rear emblem S red, further soiling no longer.
Showing you all mine.
Just bought the car last week.
2002 996 C4S with 147xxx kms
Gone now for detailing and I send her next week for IMS bearing replacement and new clutch.
Im trying to figure out if the wing is an aftermarket or come for another P model?
Picked this puppy up a few weeks ago for 11k. Addressed bad motor mounts and failing window regulators. The clear coat is bad but I love the "patina". It's a 2002 Carrera 2 w/tiptronic 🤠 Howdy
In the mid-80's, I took a '72 911T and built what is now called a 'tribute' car or homage. Back then, it was a 'there's no way I can ever afford a real RS, but the parts are all out there to build one'. The car was absolutely correct in every way beginning with an MFI 2.7L RS-spec engine. Thought it would be fun to lay-over the '02 Carrera in a transition photo.....

2003 996 new to me this week. Highly optioned with "X" options, sport seats, center console painted in car color, sport seat backrest painted in car color, aluminum look instrument faces, "18 Carrera 5 spoke wheels . 51K miles, original paint!
This is the quintessential parking lot pic. This phenomenon occurs when a Porsche owner is walking back to his/her car and is struck by the sheer beauty of it and is then compelled to snap a pic. And this is regardless of background, weather, natural disaster...etc..
Well done.
Oh yeah, I love this picture. My summer job during college was cleaning septic tanks, and I also had to service the porta-potties. I can almost relive the amazement to see a beautiful 911 during work at 20 years old wondering if I would ever have the chance to be a 911 owner.
Joined the club a few months ago. 2004 C4S carmon red with natural brown leather. The car had 31000 miles on it when I bought it and I have put on 2000 more in less than 3 months. So far I have put in the IMS retrofit and changed the RMS, AOS, clutch, and water pump. I have also changed out the parking bulbs and tail light bulbs for LEDs and added a Kenwood head unit and Alpine amp. Great car and enjoying it every day!

Awesome car, congrats -- best interior color out there, mandatory on the next one. Your coupe twin is for sale, you should buy it too!

Had a bunch of maintenance done at The RennShop in Mountain View, CA. Cleaned up the engine bay while they were at it. Love this car.
I also replaced the previous owner's garish Alpine head unit with a Continental TR7412UB-OR. Very happy with it. Looks nearly OEM and the bluetooth works great with my iPhone.

Nice kit. Would look much better dropped 20-25mm and with spacers. You've gone for a high performance look which needs to include the stance to finish it off.
Greg what size spacers did you put on your car? And have you noticed more paint chips? I've been thinking about spacers ever since seeing your car. I took this photo of my car and it just screams "spacers please"...
Few shots of mine from last weekend. We rented a cabin on a lake in North Western Tennessee and I had to take a few pics of this car with that cabin!! I'm installing GT3 control arms upfront along with new tie rods this morning!
I have 17mm factory spacers all around. Haven't driven it much after that yet, but so far haven't noticed an increase in chipping - might be more of a problem if you drive on unsealed roads a lot though?
Cheers
wasn't aware Porsche had factory 17mm spacers? I always thought 5mm was factory spec.
I am putting 15mm all around, but it looks like I could have done 17mm depending on tire size.
I'll be watching for paint chips along side.
My '99 C2 Cab bought back in March. It's had an interesting life as a driver so I've been doing some refurbing. Still the most fun car I've ever owned.
Thanks for the responses Greg, dan_189, 85eurocarrera -- some food for thought there. I don't intentionally drive it on unsealed roads.
Anyway, back to the thread. Some very nice cars in here.
There are factory 17mm spacers but they aren't "approved" for the Carrera 5 spoke wheels.
If you do any "spirited" driving the chips come in thick and fast haha
I was told that they are "approved for the rear, but not the front"? I've had mine certified under the NZ licencing laws, so legal here
I don't do any driving on gravel roads, but spirited driving on tarmac - no significant chipping so far
Sorry about the rather late answer, I hadn't noticed your question. Front splitter, side sill extensions and rear bumper skirts are locally made in vacuum bagged CF. I made models out of MDF and the fabricator then did moulds. Looks are for show (clear coated CF), but they're really for GO, flat floor from the tip of the splitter until front end of the engine. A "diffuser" is in plans.
Thanks! It doesn't look like it.. but i'm 100% stock suspension except for a lowering spring - H&R Sport Springs. Takes the car down about 1.2-1.4 inches. Max front camber, neutral rear with a little toe. Upgrading swaybars soon, but in current form she passes everything that doesn't have a GT badge on the back.. for the meantime, I'm happy
Cool - I have the same springs (Blue) - you should consider matching them with Bilstein B8 Sport shocks - they are designed specifically to go with those H&R springs and are factory approved.
Here's my '02 996.2 w 80k miles.
Dad bought it new, but passed on last Oct. After much debate, decided to keep it and drive it like crazy. Loving it, so I think he'd be happy.
Here is my very early 99 - #145 cabrio built in February 1998.
Car is one year older than my daughter! Needs a few things cosmetically but getting it sorted out - bought it in December and is my first Porsche. So far love the car and will really enjoy it once the top gets adjusted and I get the squeaks out of it.

Ha ha. She is more than capable of sorting her own cosmetics, usually at a high cost! I like the Sport Classic II wheels also, but they sure are a pain to clean. Oddly my car was ordered with no (zero) options, but the selling dealer must have swapped the wheels. Interesting that the no option car ended up with the most expensive factory wheel option!
You car looks great - really like the color combo!
Daryll
Thanks. My car is extremely heavily optioned and then the buyer added these wheels at the dealer. Final MSRP was over $100k!
I had the wheels ceramic coated and that really makes cleaning them much easier.

I actually like the "egg" look but I was just curious how you did it. I think it would be cool to have the option of changing the look here and here. Please tell how it was done...
Here is my 2000 C2 cab, 87,000 miles with the following options:
L92UArctic Silver /CM Space Gray interior with a new Graffiti Gray top.
XJB Arctic silver center console,
XRL 18" Sport Design wheels,

X70 Stainless door entry guard w/logo,
X71 Aluminum look instrument faces,
X97 Aluminum inlay gear lever,

424 CD compartment (included with the car but now upgraded to factory cupholders and a storage box),

476 PSM,
490 Basic sound,
537 Seat memory,
696 CD radio Becker Porsche CDR-220,
939 and 982 Draped leather rear and front seats.
It just arrived from CA at the beginning of the month. Need to detail it and still waiting on my plates. Currently running the SportDesign wheels, I think it gives it a more classic 996 look. The fuchs knock-offs make it look more modern to me.
Got my new plates...
And I got rid of this mess...
I love this ride!
I bought it in November from a neighbor and it has a few things to make it right but it's a keeper.
Hi Mike,
No I had the dealership replace all the black plastic and gear shift **** with OE parts. It really detracted from the over all rest of the interior that is in good shape. I think the previous second owner that I bought it from had a child seat and the toddler's feet damaged the center console area! I had an offer of $900 dollars to respray it but I was told by the gentleman that was offering the service that it was subject to the same fate. So why do that?
It looks like a new car again inside to me.
Nice interior on your White 996. I'm guessing the plastic console may be easier to keep nice than my body-colored console option. Mine's still perfect, but one little scratch of the paint, and it would be immediately evident.
Gil
gil,
As long as you don't place a child in the front seat to kick it with his/her feet you should fine
Also gil I get it why you put black floor mats in your car but it's to dark IMHO. I think by the condition of your car that you should be able to handle the factory colored mats!
Eric
TechSavvySam,
It is crazy cool. In fact I had this repair done over other issues that need to be addressed because I was so concerned about the availability of these interior parts on such an older car. I still need a major service, motor mounts, coolant expansion tank, rear spoiler actuator, or whatever it's called. So I'm not driving it much. But I should have all the rest done by August if my credit card doesn't start of fire first. It was such a great distraction to the interior for what is over all a very nice example of a 2001 C4. Some of the parts had to come from the warehouse in Germany. Good catch on your part because the comment was a concern of mine too! I also had to replace the rear-view mirror because it was de-laminating along the bottom edge.
FYI I posted these parts on this website but so far no takers.

I bought the headlight cover from a fellow member here. Although see I saw a link/thread here where pelican parts has started to offer them for sale as well.
i took it to my body shop and had them painted it the same time I had my front bumper re-painted after a small scratch/dent form a very low impact fender bender.
@85eurocarrera: I taught my son to drive a clutch on my previous 996. Below is my current car. I changed motor mounts the other day. Felt good to get my hands dirty on a 996 again.
pretty sure I already posted a pick of mine in here but my wife just randomly texted me a pick here while I'm at work of the car in the garage. she said she went out to get something and couldn't resist taking the pic and sharing lolol I think its safe to say.. So far all my kids drive stick. 2 down, 2 to go. Although, only one really enjoys it and is making that a requirement for his next car. The other two start driving this summer. .They've all 4 had successful lessons so far. Even the older one who doesn't like it, at least he CAN do it in a pinch.

Thanks, your car has some nice options, The quad tips look good also.
I take it the Aero kit is original install ? You don't see many on Targa's.
and the wheels for a GT3 ? , 11's" on the back ?
Reason I ask is I originally wanted to put some widebody ones on mine but like others ask, do they fit ?
I run 23mm spacers on my 10"s and it seems like there is a little room left on outside to go the full 11" but wasn't sure.
On LW five spokes, but still felt I had another inch to go. my buddy lent me his old 25mm ones, but they had studs, and when I bolted them up they moved a little to where the wheels wouldn't bolt onto the studs. Hence I bought the 23mm ECS spacers with the long bolts. fits good, no rubbing with 285's.
Sorry, didn't reply to this, yeah, you got one of a kind.
Did you have that work done or previous owner ?
If so I'm thinking/guessing $40K w/o Labor
Let's see some pic's of interior ?
"It was serviced at Wright Motorsports."
Thanks, Color was why main reason I bought it. That's who did my IMS repair, by previous owner.
Great guy, This was his only water cooled P car. but what ever he thought it needed he had it repaired.
I added Bilsteins and HR's plus Adj Sway bar in rear.
Most of interior that wasn't full leather I upgraded it recently.
Lol, I thought that might generate some interest. The jack is only taking pressure off the motor. There are two jack stands in front of the rear wheels with the front chocks being out of sight.
The hydraulic jack is positioned on the bottom of the engine.

144 pages of goodness and silent for almost a year. This thread deserves a bump!
This is the 1999 996 C2 Convertible I owned for 3 years. I sold it 5 years ago in favor of an Aston Martin V8 Vantage. Now I am back home to the 996 world with a lovely MK2 GT3.
"First drive with fresh FSI Stage II 3.8L and a bunch of other goodies packed into a stock looking C2"
^^^
^^^ You're going to love it! It only gets better when you get it broken in...
I bought this last August and forgot about this thread. Since its bumped, here is my 7/98 build bone stock C2 with ~80k miles. Its a stripper, not even two rows of options, but I like it! My prior car was an 86 944.
Thank you for the complement. After I parked, my wife and I were eating lunch across the street when I took the picture. Later I was wishing I had parked a little further forward for the full mural background instead of the brewery equipment. Still works pretty good with the Arena Red on the car though.

I've owned a few pair of BBS LMs and they aren't bad when compared to another set of BBS wheels, the RS or super RS. One would take me 15 minutes, RSs would take me hours.
Thursday evening before the Werks Reunion on Amelia Island. The yellow cab belongs to Carlvs, my silver coupe in the center, not sure who owns the Cayman.
Thanks!
I was selling my Aston Martin V8 Vantage and got offered this car as part of the deal. I've always read amazing things about GT3s, so my curiosity made me do it.
Was actually planning to buy a 991 C2S for some more comfort compared to the old Aston Martin, I guess that didn't work out!
The car has an exhaust mod with a switchable valve, and black painted rims. Other than that it's bone stock, including it's Nomex covered race seats. Just the fire extinguisher is missing.
My plan is to drive it for the summer, and then maybe sell it for a "proper" car that doesn't have race seats, a roll cage and that doesn't scrape the floor on every bump. But the more I drive it, the less I feel like selling it
!
ohh ouch! I would talk to a paintless dent removal guy first. It is amazing what they can do. I banged my air compressor into that same fender (years ago). It left a pretty good dent and my heart sank. PDR guy got on it and it looks perfect. You would never be able to tell I did that moronic move.

996.2 5 spoke 18 inch wheels - simply the best!
Look great
Light
Easy to clean.
What's there not to like?
I have two sets, one with PS2s and the other with Cup 2s (comfort or performance to choose from)
OK, bias alert: I have the same car in basalt black.
For road use the 2WD manual Carrera had got to be the driver's pick.
OK, it's not got the edgy focus of the GT3, but that car hasn't got the everyday ride quality that would make you pick it for those long road trips (unless going to the track of course!)
And it's not got the outright acceleration and speed of the TT. But AWD adds weight, and reduces steering quality (albeit oly a little, but real), and AWD doesn't provide the same chassis interaction of 2WD.
There's only one downside - it's got the M96, instead of the bulletproof Mezger engine.
The last analogue 911 (maybe the 997.1 qualifies better?).
If having a throttle cable rand dual row IMS rocks your boat, go for the 996.1, personally, I'll take the extra power and torque, and VarioCam Plus of the 996.2 (and upgrade the IMS) - headlights don't matter either way.

Got her in the beginning of December
Hey! Let me in! It's freezing out here!
It's freezing out here...
We had a bit of snow a couple weeks ago...the Cayman S lives indoors alongside my wife's SUV...no worries, this girl was out and about the next day...
She is 23 years old this month. I need to remember that anytime I am up to my eyeballs in stress due to her imperfections. Buying this car in 2016 was the first time I had ever invested into something both financially and emotionally (I know.. it's just a car). I jumped in over my head with no real mechanical experience and a tight budget because I knew I wanted this more than anything. I couldn't imagine waiting 30-40 years to fulfill my dream like so many do and there were no guarantees I would be around that long. Pictures like this and a good drive on the backroads melts away all that stress! She still isn't perfect and I am still learning to be okay with that.
After searching for months I'm finally a 911/996 owner - a 2001 in black metallic with a natural brown interior.
Have to say black wasn't my 1st choice (Texas - hot, wanted an interesting color) but the combo with brown is amazing. Interesting bits on it: Aerokit Carrera, 414 polished twists, and Tequipment HPAS audio (OE by Jehnert). Tucked in the garage for now while I get inspection and tags sorted.
I would really like to learn more about your car.
Engine, Oil and cooling system mods specifically, but would be interested in the full build sheet if you have one available.
Run fast and thanks !
Jason

Did you raise the car, or was the other pic photoshopped? I like the new wheels better, but I think the car looked meaner with the lower stance and black wheels. Both look good though.
Actually the po had it so low but Florida’s roads are definitely better then NYC so I couldn’t get in my own drive way without removing the lip it was raised 1.25 inches all around so I can at least drive without cringing now this is the added lip
RTSC4S,
Who makes the rear spoiler on the blue 996 in post 2263? That same spoiler was on my car when I bought it. There are no identifying labels or part numbers on it. I have not seen any others that look like it.
Here is my newly purchased 1998 C2 6MT (originally a German market car), taking delivery next week. New to 996's but not Porsches, I have had 928's for 17+ years. Looking forward to learning all about these cars and the community!
The head unit is a
Continental CD7416UB-OR
Continental CD7416UB-OR
.
The 12v outlet is a Audi/VW socket. I buy them used off Ebay and have them in all the cars.
Can you post a side pic of yours on the 17's? I have 18" sport classics but there is a set of aftermarket 17's with bigger tires I've been eyeing that I think would be cool to run as a bonus set up from time to time. Then I look at this pic of mine and 18's seem about perfect.
I was thinking of trying to sell them. I haven’t had a ton of luck now recent history with selling things locally, I’m in Yuma. Plus I doubt there is a market for them here. They currently are wrapped in Federal Super Steel 595s. So, we’ll see..🤷🏽♂️
Good news is they look great. Mine came with 18" Turbo Twists, but if it had the 17"s I'd be just as happy and wouldn't swap them. Good luck, storing wheels/tires can be a pain.
They are Replika 186's.
I like them, and it's a constant debate with my sons about whether they should be my summer wheels...clearly I need new bolts though!
I’ve had this 50K miles 99 Cabriolet since December 2020. Shown here “summerized” for the Scottsdale, AZ temperatures. Wheels are satin black powder coated 02MY. Still have the original hollow spokes.
This was recently. Ive been driving with the sunroof tilted up and the windows partially down. Its a nice experience. I never really used the tilt feature on the sunroof that much but it does bring in airflow and is quite.
New to Me 2001....She needs some TLC, but for the price I'm not complaining.....looking forward to learning tons from these forum.....Thx in advance....
I figured all black paint, carpet, leather = triple black. I found it amusing at the cars and coffee this past weekend when a few other members had similar color schemes spanning models from 2020-1999 all referred to the cars that way. Seems like Grey / tan / other color interiors were more prevalent.
Took my new-to-me 40AE out to carve up some desert back roads today. She performed flawlessly and gave me a perfect photo opp.
Ignore the dead butterfly guts on the front bumper.

ROW is the best factory suspension on a 996 Carrera IMO. M030 is way too harsh for bad roads (which abound nowadays), and standard is too soft. ROW bout 1/2" lowered & just about right. Of course I prefer the Turbo/4S.
^^I take it you don't drive at night? The headlight tint looks pretty cool but I would imagine it renders the headlights useless at night. Just wondering...
The springs are color coded with dabs of paint that may or may not be visible. All of the info is in the
996 Enthusiast's Companion
. I'll see if I can find the chart for the M030 springs.
To be honest I have not been able to perceive a difference! It's a film designed for headlights and is actually a very light smoke color and not as dark as it appears in the photos. The headlights are in pretty rough shape so I like that the film hides them.
Ha! Sure did. Ive only had the car two weeks but Im so glad to be able to enjoy it with them. I have a lot of fond memories of riding in my Dads 78 SC when I was a kid. I replicated a old pic of me and my older brother with our Dads SC and then my boys with our C4S 30 years later! 👍🏼
Absolutely, which is why I'm glad that we have a Tiptronic. Makes it easier to share the car with my wife and (in my case) older kids. (Sorry .... had to put a plug in for the poor Tiptronic stepchild that too often gets dissed).
Done car stuff with my dad forever.
When he comes to track days - hell supervise the buckling in procedure, give the belts a tug.
Dads being dads no matter how old their kids are.
Randy, are you happy with the work done by Exclusive Option? I've just been talking to Frank and wanted to get an opinion before I pull the trigger.

I bought this 996 just over a year ago
Within the last year: IMS solution, clutch, flywheel, AOS, plugs/coil packs, timing chain tensioners and all fluids.
Fuel injectors, waterpump and low temp thermostat next month
I appreciate this car more every day!
Thanks

theyre custom Lloyd Mats that I ordered last year.
For some reason the Porsche logo is no longer available from them now
My 208000km 1998 (build October 1997) 3.4 C2. Had a new M96/01AT short block engine at 198000km changed at Porsche Center Norway (in sum between 1997-2021 there have been spent USD30.000,- on this car). I will change the transaxle, gearbox with a Porsche rebuild with only 15000km I have bought from Rob van Zweeden in Netherlands (
www.v-zweeden.com
), pluss install a Numeric shifter incl the numeric cables from Design911. I also ordered a 917 tribute **** from Manuel Campuzano. The Carrera III Super Stars rims will be repaired for side chips and powder coated dark grey/black and have fresh new tires fitted. I bought the car in may this year, it had 199000km, so I have been quite active driving this this through the summer, because the care have been stored without practical zero use since the engine swap back in 2019. Original engine was pulled due to some kind of disaster. By the look of things (see picture below) I guess something oil related blow up. I did a complete coolant system flush and clean and refill at Porsche Classic Center Norway in June, now I have a thin chocolate shake lyer in my coolant tank. Will have it re flushed and cleaned next week hoping this is only remains from the engine change (fingers crossed). I will also have the AOS and oil cooler checked for leakage and bad seals. For sure I'm thinking to could be "cracked head"... but since the new engine have the old heads that was cleaned, inspected and planned by a racing engine shop (subvendor of Porsche Norway) I'm actually not willing to accept this early that my heads are cracked.
Images from the engine change
The darkened headlights look amazing on your car. I just sold my black 00 911 CAB to one of my neighbors. I think hed be interested in knowing how you did this mod if you dont mind sharing. 🙏
Thanks. I love the amber up front. To me, its part of what makes my 99 C2 a 99 C2, and who knows; it may eventually prove to be one of the things that impacts its future value.
Eh... opinions are like as*holes... everybodys got one! While I love the shape of the 996.1 headlights, I prefer the clear ones... To each his/her/they/them/whatever, their own! Whatever floats your boat - this is what makes Porsches so unique and interesting - very few are alike in any significant way. As for future value, itll take a lot more than the type of headlights to impact overall value. I think in another 20-30 years (the likely timeline for 996 values to rise significantly) the automotive landscape will be unrecognizable to those of us who grew up in the age of the internal combustion engine and $.20/gal gasoline. In the mean time, just enjoy driving and modding your car to your hearts content.
Dude, thank you! I dont normally like smoked lights but on this car it just works.
I used a vinyl film called vvivid light smoke. Super cheap, and probably need to reapply it soon but its pretty easy to work with. Buy twice as much as you think you need.

New to me 2000 Cab / Tip in Palladio Metallic. TechArt lowering springs, rear spoiler, silver gauges, carbon fiber interior pieces, 3 spoke wheel and body color bra. Not bad for a 22 year old 911 with 33K miles. Currently getting the IMSB, UAOS and other maintenance done. The GT3 badge is history 😎
That Gt3 badge is just so many levels of uncool, especially on a beige cab with a tip. Did you meet the guy who put it on? Was he as cringey as I think?
That was my 84 Euro in Hellbronze Metallic. 310 HP from the factory. Completely custom car from the hand stitched dash, paint to match color, to the shaved body panels & 80s correct Wing. The 3000 Watt Audio System was pretty cool too! Im gonna miss that car, but the 911 aint too shabby either 😎
Snow is in the forecast for the "lowlands" here on the Kitsap Peninsula of Washington state this Christmas Day and for several days after. If it looks like this again I'll get everything cleaned off, shovel the drive and out we go!

I believe I've got this individual green 996 in my garage outside Olympia now. Thanks for all the great maintenance you did. I'm trying to figure out how to send you a private message with a couple questions...like do you still have that hard top that was with the car? Hope you're enjoying that cayman.

From the last drive of the year. Went with a group of friends to Litchfield Distillery and then Kent Falls Brewery. Its been our typical last group ride of the year to end the driving season. Five or six years in a row. There are a lot of great roads from Western MA to Litchfield CT.
Jason,
that was a fun time with you Aaron, Justin and Joel, the Dragon run back in Dec 22. We need to do it again. Hopefully we will have better weather!

We drove up to Okemo last night in perfect weather. Started snowing around 11pm and hasnt stopped yetprobably 24+ inches so far. Left the P-car parked and took the shuttle to the mountain this morning. We head home tomorrow after skiing in the morning. The skiing was super. P-car was awesome (snow tires make this the perfect car for the trip).

No 996 content, but somewhat related. There's a A4 Allroad buried under there:
This was slope side in Killington Sat. night (23rd).
Lines at Killington weren't bad at all... most we waited was 10 minutes once or twice for the K1 gondola. We had 4 great days of skiing.
beautiful. Where at in Jersey? Outsiders dont see this side of NJ. We have some of the most beautiful scenery and areas, even more so with a car like this.
the sunrise is from the gas pumps at the New Jersey Motorsports park prior to a track day. My barn find is from Haddonfield, barn circa 1892. Its an old horse and carriage barn. Fitting for the Porsche, being both the horse and carriage now 😎
Here's a PCH (Porsche Coast Highway) SoCal Car. Original owner 12/98 build. 140K Coil overs, M96 bored to 3.6, rebuilt and updated to 04 specs, LN nickel sleeves. RSS mounts, FD motorsports exhaust, Shift kit. Other reversible mods. Just fun to drive daily.
thankfully no. The oil splatter when I changed in before the winter wasnt something I noticed. So I took it for a drive and torqued the wheels and placed the cardboard down while it sat for the time being.

All you "Areo-kitters" out there driving those Taco winged stunning cars. I lowered my C2Cab with Coil overs about an inch and clearance was already an issue. Afraid of what the front end will catch on these hilly streets and I still get driveway rashes. I guess I'll have to be content!

This was Feb 17th 2022. Ive had the car 7 years and drive it weekly in all types of weather. Its hard not to love the 996, let alone any 911
Stock 99 manual C2 cab with factory LSD and all season tires. Also has the ugly rear bumper with parking sensors.
This is my new-to-me 2002 C4 Cab 6-speed. Rainforest Green Metallic with Savannah Beige interior. Its got some surprise work to do to get it roadworthy, but overall Im happy with it. Its my first Porsche and as I learn more about these I am very pleased to see how much of this car is doable for the shade tree mechanic. Looking forward to years of enjoyment.
Hey another rainforest metallic green 996! Looks great with the hard top. Here's my C2, which is wrapped, but RMG is the original color and also have savannah beige interior. Great combo! I'll be painting it some day...
Project "GT3 - ish..." is coming to an end. Just sitting at the shop getting an inspection done, and then the plan is to drive it back to Edmonton from Vancouver (about 1000 miles) end of July.
Motor failure, 3.8 rebuild, UAOS, UIDS, glass out colour change, mixed-bag aerokit, Fister modification, KW coilovers, interior leather re-done...
Only thing it needs would be a big brake kit if I wanted to track it more...
This is how I would have ordered it in 2001 had I not been in elementary school.
The older I get, the more I like that Green!
Here is mine from over the wknd, she is almost right where I want her to be =)

ahh the good old want vs need.... I'm keeping my eyes wide open for the new wheels Apex is developing. Very BBS E88 esque looking. I feel they offer some amazing designs for pretty realistic prices.
Today was Porsche Day at the local car museum, so I spent a few hours last night finishing some 'visual maintenance' projects I'd been putting off. Rock chips touched up, cracked rear badge replaced,
plastic/rubber restorer
plastic/rubber restorer
applied to all the window gaskets
(which worked great for $15)
, and so on... best the car's looked in a long time!
Great turnout with some fun surprises (CGT, Targa Florio-winning 910, lots of modified air-cooled Turbos), but the biggest surprise -- taking home the trophy for the ~90's category! I was also excited to see a white 996 Turbo win the 00's category. Pretty cool to see the 'ugly duckling' generation beat out so many 964, 993, and 997's.
I put my 19's on my car with new 235/35-19 and 305/30-19 Bridgestone Potenza. Were I to do it again I would probably use 295/30-19 on the rears as the 305's are REALLY close to rubbing the fenders (obviously a widebody car). I also removed the Cardan shaft to disable the front wheel drive because I am not sure these tire ratios are acceptable for the 996 viscous coupling.
I have 295/30 rear and 225/40 front on my C4S. No issues with the AWD as they are within 1% of each other, (rev per mile is 799 vs 797) but I do get a little rubbing on the front when I make a tight turn in a parking lot.
Hey all, I am about 2 months into 996 ownership (former 914 owner) . I picked up a 99 C4 Cab up here in WA state. Low-ish miles 75K. I've gotten quite a few projects done so far....
-Oil and Filter change (waiting on analysis from Blackstone)
-Air Filter
-Cabin Filter
-Fuel Filter
-Driver Sunvisor housing
-Footrest
-Frunk Struts
-New speakers thanks to 3d Printed housings and iPhone hookup to stock deck
-Rebuilt spoiler unit (no teeth left LOL)
-Driven injector cleaner
-Trickle Charger hookup
-Oddment tray repair
-Detailed, Clay bar and Waxed
-Got a quickjack as this car is a great excuse to get one!
Winter plan is to flush all the other fluids as well as pull the trans to check out Clutch/RMS/IMS. Engine was swapped at 50k but I have no history on current engine other than IMS replaced with one from Precision Auto Electric and I can't find much on that. Will get a camera to check out bores during coils/plugs. Needs turn signal switch unit. Oil sump plan needs replacement due to stripped threads. Looking at the LN 160 thermostat as a precautionary measure against bore scoring. At some point it will need a new fabric top but that is down the road. I like the hard top!
I have found this forum to be of much value in just the last 2 months so thanks for everyone who contributes.
-Rob in the PNW
It looks like no spacers front or rear. I didnt realize they were Cayman wheels so thats good to know! All I know is I thought they looked awesome vs stock wheels. Tires are 265/35 R18 Continental
As luck would have it got my oil analysis back today. Iron is high but literally no idea how many miles on the oil as PO was not a ton of help. Will send another sample in 1000 miles. (Edil: based off carfax reports I estimate this oil has at least 5k miles on it)
It is disappointing that they think your car has steel cylinders.
With the information you gave them, they could at least break the data down to "like vehicles"... same make/model??
I sent the first (only) oil change of my (new to me) 2003 C4S to Blackstone and Speediagnostix. Blackstone took longer, but I haven't had time to "really" look at either report.
(they both say "you are fine"...with only 150mi on the oil, I would hope so...)

Got it back from the bodyshop after two months of repairing a deer strike! Upgraded to a factory GT3 aerokit front bumper, factory aero skirts, and Litronics. Waiting on new gaskets for the lights (the right one is sitting slightly low) and a non-washer corner marker for the right side light.
