Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

21 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I wonder where my turntable is??

POST 2Original post

I am old enough, I am just glad they are gone, How the hell would that thing play in my car CD player...?

POST 4Original post

Funny you say that, I remember when we were kids, we found like a Bee-Gees Album. and i recall throwing it like a frisbee and one of our other friends, and i from what i remember he had to get a cast and some stitches...Poor bastard

POST 5Original post

I have more that 1800 albums that my son often listens to. Some have never been openned. Many have never been distributed to CD and even the album jackets are worth a pretty penny. I have more than 400 78's too. I would have more, except I used some of them for target practice as a kid.

POST 6Original post

^ thats an impressive collection. I need to find a replacement needle for the one in my house, anyone know what kind of stores carry that stuff? Finding vynil stuff is as hard as finding a mechanic who knows what a carburetor us.

POST 7Original post

Remember? I am still listening to them! For an audiophile they are the best. As everything in our life is going digital, for music I am actually going backwards. All analog... Vinyl record player - 1960s Counterpoint tube pre-amp - 1980s Bogen tube amp - 1950s B&W speakers - 1980s My dream setup would be something like a Krall CD player, Sumo pre-amp, Mcintosh tube amp, B&W 801 series speakers Still using my 40 year old Elac (German) player Here is my Counterpoint Preamp

POST 8Original post

You can still get stylus/needles at radio shack and many places online. I still have my father's old portable 1938 Victrola which still plays well. Nothing better than the sound of dust static.

POST 9Original post

Robin, pardon me for pointing this out, but I think it's hilarious that you have a whole bunch of tools there with your audio equipment. I too am an audio buff, but my system centers more around home theatre. My rack is all digital. I like the consistency, and the lack or pops and ticks. Analog sucks.

POST 11Original post

LOL! Old tube stuff is just like an old air cooled 911... requires lots tender loving care. But, it sure sounds good! LOL!

POST 12Original post

Does that mean some analog-lovers will soon appear to ask us why digital people hate them so much?

POST 13Original post

Sorry, I don't understand.. Did I miss something?

POST 14Original post

He's referring to the 993 / 996 debate over air and water cooled cars. 993 purists can seem to think their cars are the last of the pure breed. By that logic, I'm surprised they don't ride the original air breather: horses.

POST 15Original post

Actually in my circles (professional audio recording) these debates are alive and well, and they get just as old as the 993/996 debates even though everyone knows that the 996 is better and so is digital.

POST 16Original post

Well, I don't have an issue regarding any debate with the 993 and the 996, I own both and I enjoy both. I don't know why there is any debate over them as it is like comparing apples and oranges. They are two different animal, I enjoy both for their unique characters. If one can only have one car to use as an everyday driver, the 996+ would be the way to go. Way less hassle, less maintainence, better gas mileage, easier to drive etc..etc..etc... Same for analog and digital, apples and oranges. For home listening Jazz, Classic, Opera analog "Tube" is the way to go even from a CD source it will sound better. For heavier base stuff like Rock definitely digital. Watching a movie on your home theater definitely digital... So if you only have room and budget for one system, then digital would be the way to go. Again way less hassle.

POST 18Original post

Robin -- That picture brought back memories. My dad gave me as a high school graduation gift an amp/pre-amp set up with tubes. Even as a college freshman, which is now 25 yrs ago, I got flack about how outdated my set up was. The rush of getting a new record and combing through the liner notes is gone with CD's and downloads. And, all I have to remember this era with is a carefully constructed but now completely wharped collection of my favorites from two decades ago. Digital is plenty good for my ears, and the convenience can't be beat. Really makes me wonder how long Sony's Blu-Ray will be around before it gets displaced by downloads. -- M

POST 19Original post

Dead-Eye if you need a stylus for your turntable, check out www.audiogon.com you should be able to find something on there, if you don't know exactly what replacement options you have just post a question, they are much like people on this site only they are mad for audio gear. I think they mod as much as you guys do.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Did any of you notice that the record was a demo for the Escort radar detector? Imagine buying one for 300 bucks and given what is was supposed to do, you learned about it buy listening to a 33rpm LP. Does anybody else think that is ironic?????????????!!!!!!!!! oh yeah, enough of that 993 vs. 996 crap. Many of you lucky bastards own both. I miss my 993 a lot and wish I still had it! Steve

POST 21Original post

Funny thing is, my 15 yr old daughter likes to buy old vinyl records, but she still listens to digital. It's a retro thing I guess with the album art and content being more substantial than on a CD.. I still have a fantastic old Thorens truntable and about 300 LPs stored somewhere. Hmmm.....maybe worth something someday.
