Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

'99 996 with original 17" wheels. looking for track tires to fit on there. I want to get victoracers but the smallest size they make is in a 225/45/17 - do you think i could fit that on the front wheels? i think normally a 205 goes on the front, and i've put 215s before, but never a 225. thoughts?

POST 2Original post

depending on the size of the wheel. On a 17 inch rim you can easily run a 225. I've ran 245's on 18s in the past.

POST 3Original post

err it depends on the size of the wheel sure, but the diameter is irrelelvant, it's the width! stock front wheels in 17" on a 996 is 7" wide which you could probably shoehorn a 225 onto but isn't ideal. Upgrading to 18" Carrera lightweights would be a great upgrade.

POST 4Original post

I'd stick to 17s for the track. Lighter + the rubber is cheaper. 225 is plenty on a 7 inch rim. 80s Carreras had 16x7s with 225s.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

alright... i got a set of victoracers mounted on my car - 225/45/17 front 255/40/17 rear. fronts are bigger than stock 205's so should experience more front end grip and less understeer this weekend. was thinking though, anyone put 275's on a 9x17 stock rear wheel? cause the 225's look like they fit fine, so i presume an equally sized upgrade in the rear would balance the car more. thoughts?

POST 6Original post

that's about as big as you'd want to go on a 9 inch rim..

POST 7Original post

These cars push like crazy, especially on lower speed corners and U.S. suspension. If the 225 isn't too big for the rim and you can have a nice flat tire surface, then you probably have accomplished a somewhat more favorable balance by reducing the front/rear tire width differential.
