Does anybody know where I can get an aftermarket powerkit for the 996 that is not from porsche but from somebody like Manthey racing?
I hear a set of cams and aggressive computer upgrade will really wake up the car.
Silver 996

I don't know about cargraphic or fvd... ideally I would like somebody here in Canada to do the install... somebody who has done these type of upgrades.... I'm impressed from the stuff at Manthey cause they do some really nice work on the GT3's and they race them full time... if I'm going to do internal work I want it from a company that has proven themselves on the track.
my only concern about cams is how will they affect the low end grunt... lots of times they move the power up the powerband and give you lots more but at the expense of low end torque.... hmm..
lol... I think I found a guy here who has done an aggressive cam setup for the street and track... stay tuned for more details... I will share my findings... this could be an alternative to the porsche x51...!!
Keep Me poster more so, I am doing these mods, but at the same time I am doing a Charger...Please o please keep me updated. I have not been able to find a GOOD shop that i will trust to do this type of work...Forget the dealer. I plan on doing cams maybe some head work , maybe a new plenum and a EVO Charger.
What you need to do is find out where the local racers take their engines for race/machine work. Check out the local drag racers(NHRA), or sprintcar/stock car crowds, see what shop the guys are using, I'm sure a good race engine/machine shop can handle anything you want done, they may not have a lot of porsche experience, but the basics are the same and they won't apply a porsche tax either.
There really is no mystery to porting and polishing heads and doing 3 angle valve jobs, blueprinting engines, etc, just a matter of time until guys start doing it more.
I agree with what your saying.... but in the end its always nice to have somebody that has done it on the exact same car... I'd never use my baby as the "guinea pig".. lol... I should be taking a road test in that modifed 996 soon... I'll report my findings when I get a chance.
cheers
Peter
Alegra Motorsports in Florida is the east coast distributor for Manthey! This is the link for there contact information http://www.alegramotorsports.com/contact.htm! I am actually planning on using them for my power upgrade on my boxster s.
pete. where are you located? RuF is in Dallas. Surgeon is right locals will ake care of you afer the work is done.
We have a guy here in Seattle that build engines and I would go to him without doubt.
I'm in Toronto, Canada.
I spoke to the client who had his power kit done; he is *very* happy...the work was done at FIORANO who is an ALEGRA dealer as well. I've done some research and Giani is a very good at engine mods and suspensions.
I'm scheduled to test drive the car this week... I'm wondering how it compares to the X51 40th I drove in terms of power delivery.
I'll post my results when I get a chance.
from what I've heard it's aggressive cams from ALEGRA in Miami..(more aggressive than the X51 cams) Manthey computer upgrade that was developed specifically for those cams... other things you can do are headers, high flow cats and exhaust... this specific customer didn't go for the exhaust cause he wanted a "sleeper"... he does however have the high flow cats and headers as well as installing a 3rd radiator because he tracks the car...
I can't wait to drive it.
If you want more info let me know I'll pass you some contact info and you can discuss in detail.
cheers
