Suggestion
The Porsche tech thinks it's to keep the half axles in proper alignment with the drivetrain, since lowering the car would change the angles.

Guess just have to remember to NOT center bumps but to run over them.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

How many of you who have lowered your 996's (I am considering the H&R or Eibach springs) have put a protective plate under your engine? I have had this recommended to me by one of the shops that might do the install, but another shop said it was not necessary to do. What have your experiences been? Any problems with bottoming out with the motor? Thanks.
Installed a lot of H&R and eibachs/techarts, and have never put anything underneath the engine, nor had any complaints about bottoming out from customers.
The GT2 and GT3 cars are very low and have no plate under the engine. The front spoiler lip takes a beating though. If you are thinking about lowering the car, think aboout the M030 Euro suspension kit. Not expensive, all Porsche and it is how the car was supposed to look and drive.

Does anyone know if you can get the ROW M030, or the X74 suspension without the sway bars? If so, where? The reason I ask is because my 02 C2 currently has the U.S. M030 on it.
Thanks,

You know, you guys make very good points to defer putting a plate under the engine. I think the one shop was just trying to see how much juice they could squeeze out of this turnip. Much thanks on the feedback.
Glad to hear it too. Took a peek under there after the X73 was installed, and the bottom of that engine looks awfull close to the ground. Guess just have to remember to NOT center bumps but to run over them.
Tom, AFAIK, the conversion to ROW 030 doesn't require a sway bar change. Definitely, for the X74/X73, you retain the sway bars. New engine mounts come with the X73/x74 kit. .You can get them from Gert of Carnewal, a Rennlist sponsor. I think Eric of Bumper Plugs Eric can also get them for you. You can also ask your local Porsche parts dealer.
Mine was lowered by the previous owner (H&R springs) and they also put a plate under the engine. The engine plate provides peace of mind, but I have way more problems scraping the front lip.
Palting,
Thanks for the info. Gert contacted me on the X74 and will sell it without the sway bars.
Question, why does the X74 come with new motor mounts, and how difficult is it to change them out?
Thanks,
Tom 2002 C2
Had the same question myself, Tom. Porsche won't warranty the suspension without the mounts. The Porsche tech thinks it's to keep the half axles in proper alignment with the drivetrain, since lowering the car would change the angles. Don't know how difficult it would be to change them out, since it was all done by the Porsche tech. If it helps answer the question any, I got charged 10 hours labor to change out the suspension and mounts, alignment and balancing, as well as do oil and filter change
