Reported cause
Because of this I first suspected a loose connection so I applied dielectric grease to the two spade connections on the new oil pressure sending unit and made sure the connections there were tight, but the problem is still occurring.

Suggestion
That prompted me to replace the oil pressure sending unit and that seemed to correct everything for a while, that is, once the car is warmed up the oil pressure was slightly less than 1 bar and was 3 bar at 3,000 rpm and similarly increasing with increased rpm, and the Warning Low Oil Pressure in the message center went away.
Leading evidence: 'still occurring' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'still occurring' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace oil pressure sending unit' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Team,
First off I'll say I've got a new Porsche genuine oil pressure switch.
Today the oil warning lamp came on. This is the third time this has occurred in the last 4 or so months. Here's some info
Oil pressure is fine. goes up and down with revs
Oil pressure is fine when car is uber hot. Around 1.5 bar
running 5W-50
Oil at full (just below) on stick and electronically on a flat surface overnight stop
Have 997 oil pressure relief valve/spring installed
The warning occurred, this time, 10 min into the drive at the exact same time I switched headlights on
Warning lamp remains on while engine is running. Once shut off and restarted the warning lamp resets / disappears
Here's the things to note
Today it instantly illuminated as I switched the headlights on
As soon as I noticed that I remembered one of the other times it occurred was in a dark carpark so 100% would have turned on headlights.
The final time the warning lamp turned on .... I cannot remember
There's been plenty of times where turning the headlight one has not tripped the warning light.
I am aware that there's two circuits on the oil pressure switch (thank you Skip for a previous post on that) but it is odd that it came on exactly as I switched the headlights on. So I am leaning towards a relationship between headlights turning on and this lamp illuminating.. randomly.
So brains trust - thoughts?
A little more info. Does it stay on? If it does does it go off with the headlights turned off. If it stays on does it come back on with the car shut off and back on with the headlights on?
Thank you for the question. I've updated the original post.
Warning lamp remains on until next engine cycle. Stop/Start engine and it resets / turns off
Cheers.
This could be very tricky ( and simple) ...The circuit is simple just one wire that grounds to engine via the pressure switch to illuminate the light, but the cluster its self is very digital in the circuitry...could be a diode/resistor/transistor in the cluster ..OR
in Common Electrical Theory the current flows from Positive to Negative, but Scientifically speaking the "Electrons" flow from Battery Negative to Battery Positive, ...that would mean the Electrons are flowing from the Battery Negative to the car body, and then to the engine and back up the wire to the cluster, OR to the car body up through the dash bracing and into the Instrument Cluster and finding a way to the Warning Bulb..
So two things happen when you turn on the headlights, the alternator output increases dramatically, and also current/Electrons are sent to the instrument Cluster for Illumination...( that are somehow finding their way to the Warning Bulb...)
Are you having any slow starting, or low alternator charging ?
My guess would be a faulty Instrument Cluster...
Sorry to piggy back on this thread, but I am experiencing a somewhat similar issue. I have a '02 C4 cab. Bought the car in July '23 with 39K miles and it now has 52K miles on it. Love the car.
My issue is that since buying the car in '23 the oil pressure always read about 5 bar no matter whether its was hot or cold or what the rpm was. I figured this was an oil pressure sending unit issue but wasn't overly concerned about it until I started getting the Warning Low Oil Pressure with the picture of the little oil can with a drip on the message center (even though the oil pressure on the gauge still read 5 bar). However, now the Warning Low Oil Pressure message comes on and re-occurs frequently until the car has warmed up significantly. When it does this the message comes on and the gauge pressure goes down to zero, but then the message goes away and the pressure reads normal on the gauge. This occurs back and forth until the car warms up significantly. Because of this I first suspected a loose connection so I applied dielectric grease to the two spade connections on the new oil pressure sending unit and made sure the connections there were tight, but the problem is still occurring.
Because the Warning Low Oil Pressure message was occurring with the old oil pressure sending unit that has me thinking this is an issue with the oil pressure gauge in the dash. Any advice on this issue from this knowledgeable sage group on what my next step should be?
