Suggestion

Uline boxes, that normally allows two wheels per box which cuts down on shipping costs and possibility of losing one of the boxes if you use four boxes, cover faces, use FedEx Ground, ask buyer if they want a “signature required” option to remove porch pirate concern from you the seller.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm not sure this is the best forum for the question, but I will (hopefully) be selling a set of 19" aftermarket wheels on BringaTrailer over the next couple of weeks and need to prepare for shipping the wheels to the winning bidder. I've done some internet and Youtube searches and recommendations are all over the map. My wheel sizes are 19x11 (rear) and 19x8.5 (front). Was hoping that some folks might have some advice (and photos?) on how to pack the wheels in preparation for shipping...

POST 2Original post

FWIW- Go find a "Dogs & Cats R Us" or similar place for pet stuff. They have almost perfect size boxes that petfood or something comes in. Sorry, I don't remember what the box was for. Wrap wheels on bubble wrap & clear stuff (like Saran Wrap) inside. Each wheel to 1 box. Outside of that, I do not know cost or whatever, but wheels came via FedEx. Less cost than UPS. YMMV

POST 3Original post

Saran wrap all surfaces. Cardboard over the faces then bubble wrap over that

POST 4Original post

Here are some pictures from some wheels I bought. The box is pretty thick. There is a cardboard covering each face and it has folds at the centers where the wheel would hit the box. The wheels were in some super slippery thin bag. If your box doesn't fit this well, lots of bubble wrap is your friend.

POST 5Original post

The best I have found is 20x20x20 250lb. Uline boxes, that normally allows two wheels per box which cuts down on shipping costs and possibility of losing one of the boxes if you use four boxes, cover faces, use FedEx Ground, ask buyer if they want a “signature required” option to remove porch pirate concern from you the seller. Get a printed receipt from shipping location when you drop off the boxes to maintain tracking records. Rich

POST 6Original post

Call a local Wheel Shop and ask them for some boxes. Open a FedEx account for the shipping discount.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I appreciate all the input from others. I wasn't having any luck with getting boxes from local tire shops so I ended up buying three 20x20x20 double-wall corrugated boxes from Office Depot. Used a combination of stretchwrap, foam sheeting and cardboard to protect the wheel faces. The two 8.5" width wheels fit in one box and the two 11" width wheels were packed in their own boxes with plenty of peanuts. Ended up using FedEx for shipping.

I recently used PirateShip.com and am a forever customer. They have a killer business model and the savings is insane. If you do not have a business account with a shipper you're hose. They act as a passthrough broker of sorts to pass their commercial rate to you with a tiny markup. Your shipping label is between you and UPS/FedEx/USPS and they're out of the loop, making any resolution direct because PS isn't in the middle.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
