Most of that is due to the fact that the closest dealership is 2.5 hours away in Memphis.
Leading evidence: 'fact' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'fact' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). I have a 6 year old and a 3 year old who love to ride in the P Car but, we have to improvise using our dining chair booster seat.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've been lurking for a while and wanted to officially say hello.
With the wifes blessing we finally took the plunge. Ive been married 5 years and have had 3 new to me cars while my wife always drove the old Jeep SUV. After the last upgrade of mine, an Infiniti G35 6sp sedan, she made me promise the next vehicle would be for her. We started out looking for a sporty SUV, the sporty part being at my insistence. After deciding on a Cayenne S, I started having visions of spilled milk and other childrens fluids in the back of a 60k+ SUV (we have a 3yo and a newborn). I suggested that maybe we should look for a used low dollar SUV for the kids and a sports car for us. So we ended up with a used 996 Cabrio and a used Chrysler Pacifica AWD for about the price of the new Cayenne. The with my wifes blessing part works like this: I get the Porsche on my day off each week and weekends and drive the Infiniti for my 50 mile each way daily commute. She gets to drive the Porsche to work the other four days of the week a 2 mile commute. And the kids get shuttled by the nanny in the Pacifica.
Anyway, onto the car.
I purchased it used from an individual locally who lived just a few miles from me. He bought it new in 2002 and only used it as a 3rd car. It has 15k miles, looked brand new, and was always serviced at the Porsche dealership. It is still under the factory warranty until Sept of this year. It's black with natural leather as follows:
2002 Carrera Cabriolet 996
A1 Black
V9 Black top
04 Natural leather brown
P05 Advanced Technic Package
P14 Heated seats
P15 Power seats
411 18 Lt Carrera Wheel
I was really hesitant to buy one without the stability management but just couldn't pass this car up.
I paid 53K which was not a steal but I felt reasonable given the condition and known history of the car. It did have the RMS replaced at 9k miles. I didnt know what to make of that?
Onto the photos, and yes that is a car seat in the back. I have a special agreement with my three year old, he agrees to leave the milk cup at the house and I agree to comply when he screams faster daddy, faster, vroom vroom
I had a chance to wash it but haven't yet gotten to give it the full Zaino treatment that it badly needs. This normally drives my wife crazy but now that I am doing it on "her car" maybe she will be more tolerant. I'm just waiting for the next sunny day.
Nice car!
Your son is LUCKY!!! Remember that he'll have some of these childhood memories with him forever, so it's always good to have Porsche memories.
When I was a baby until I was about 5yrs old, my dad drove 911s. The one I remember most is a green 911E that he had. It was a 1969 model I think. I can distinctly remember instances of sitting in back, or in the passenger seat, and my Mom or Dad driving around town back in Michigan. I remember one time when my Mom spun the tires by accident on a dirt road and laughing.
Best I can tell it is a option group that includes:
6 Disc Remote CD Changer
Bi-Xenon Headlights
Bose Sound System
Headlight Washers
Wind Deflector
All those codes and packages drove me insane when I was trying to compare different cars. Never knew if I was comparing apples to apples or not.
very nice ride - welcome aboard.
My daughter rides in the front seat in her chair becasue I think she may be safer up there with the front seat all the way back. She is a long way from the airbag that way - much farther than from the back seat if she were sitting in the back.
Anyway, the first time I realized she liked to go fast was when we were merging onto the 405 overtaking an M3 and she said, "yeah, Porsche" and I laughed. Then she said, "come on daddy, catch up to those cars, u can do it."
Anyway, congrats!
Beautiful car! The pic with your son is priceless....love it. I see you are from Arkansas, did you go to med school at Univ of Arkansas (UAMS)??? My wife grew up Arkansas and did med school there.
My wife graduated from UAMS in 98 and Residency in 02 (from Univ of TX). I'll PM you so we aren't throwing personal info, etc., across the main thread
Cheers,
What kind of kid car seat do you have? I have a 6 year old and a 3 year old who love to ride in the P Car but, we have to improvise using our dining chair booster seat.
Congratulations, that is a striking color combo and it sounds like the car is just one step from being new. Best of luck. Now get that thing on the track and experience the 5th dimension!

It fits really well and my 5'2" wife can ride in front with enough room for both to be comfortable. The newborn has to stay at home though.
Very nice and welcome to the list...You know your son will always want a Porsche now, but thats a good thing, when he grows up and buys one he will then know how you feel know driving one of the best machines in the world
When your kid grows up, he'll be telling his friends how he remembers that "..996 my Dad used to drive.. that old car had character, much more than this 800hp 999TT I'm driving now.."
Welcome, and your car looks great (except for Mr. Chuckles in the driver seat!)
I was just in Little Rock last week, and noticed a serious shortage of P-cars. I saw one in the Starbucks parking lot off Financial Center Way, but that was it. I think you doubled the Porsche population in one fell swoop!
Yeah, we have serious shortage here. Most of that is due to the fact that the closest dealership is 2.5 hours away in Memphis. It does make it kind of fun to have one of just a few in the city though.
Thanks.
The carseat seems to be a common question

Awesome interior color! I also have a 2002 Cab with a 3 year old in the back and waiting on an infant to be big enough to go forward facing so we can all go for a ride. I sold my Boxster for the back seats in the 996...at least that is how I sold it to my wife. Enjoy!
Congrtulations, that's a great colour combo.
I have three kids ranging in age from 3 to 12 and my 3 year old is by far the biggest P car fan. I wish I had a camera handy the first time I took him for a spin with the top down. His expression was priceless.
Enjoy!
Cheers,
Stan
A note about airbag safety for joes c4 cab. You mentioned "My daughter rides in the front seat in her chair becasue I think she may be safer up there with the front seat all the way back. She is a long way from the airbag that way - much farther than from the back seat if she were sitting in the back."
You should know that the critical factor in airbag danger for little kids is not really the power of the bag hitting them (although that's a problem if they're close), rather, it's that they impact the airbag below the centerline of the bag which causes their head to snap backward. When adults strike the airbag it is above the centerline and their head is snapping forward. If your child actually hits the airbag from way far back the effect could be tragic because the angle of impact is sub-optimal.
Just food for thought. You should ask an engineer about this.
