Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

What do u consider the top five mods are for a stock 996 followed by the top 5 performance improvements for same. I will start:
1. change wheels
2. Change audio system
3. change muffler
4. install powerflow
5. upgrade brake pads (for track days)
1. suspension
2. wheels
3. exhaust (another name for audio system)
4. intake & tune (should be done at the same time)
5. Interior bits (CF trim, steering wheel, etc..)
Stuart,
I would say it depends on your goals if you want cosmetic vs performance but my list of overall mods consist of:
SSK
Wheels
Exhaust
Intake/ECU flashing
Body kit (wing, bumper, side skirts)
Interior (Seats, trim rings, color coded console..contact sandoval)
and clear turn signals are a must...
For someone who tracks their car like me:
1. Suspension
2. Exhaust
3. Aerokit
4. SSK
5. Wheels/Rubber
AND THE MOST IMPORTANT?.......Seat time and instruction! The best mod by far is the driver mod.
Top 5 mods in my mind (not in any order of priority)::
- Suspension (JRZ or Moton)
- Wheels/Tires (19s, bling baby)
- SSK (B&M or OEM)
- Aerokit (OEM or aftermarket)
- Exhaust (fabspeed, ghl or OEM)
1) Audio. The audio is absolutely ridiculous for a $50k car.
2) Suspension. Must remedy 4x4ness.
3) Wheels. I like OEM, I just want nicer OEM ones - 18" Carrera Lightweights would be fabulous.
4) Skip Barber Racing School. Enough said.
5) Exhaust. No more sewing machine.
I would have to agree with you on that...
A C2 with these and a good driver will be one HARD car to beat***
#1) a good suspension package (X74, motons or JRZ)
#2) SSK
#3) TPC Supercharged package *****
#4) 8.5/11 inch (f/r) lightweight wheels/tires
...the above equippment on a C2 3.6L coupe should net 996 GT2-type lap times.
1. OEM sport suspension (RoW 030, X73-4)
2. OEM SSK, B&M
3. Exhaust ( Fabspeed, GHL, PSE.....any of these are better than stock)
4. 18" wheels OEM or BBS
5. Track time (PDE)
Why only five..This is my top 10 list..way better then that guy something or other Letterman
1) Clear side markers
2) SSK
3) Gotta do suspension..gotta
4) Wheels.... 2 or more sets... only counts as one
5) Exhaust...and Tips ( still only one)
6 Audio system
7) GT3 Rocker Panels
8) Carbon Shifter and E-brake
9) Turbo front bumper( or other types)
10 Some type of wing( Option also at this time is CF hood)
and some others that are important but didn't make the list
Gauge rings, some int pieces silver or carbon or other colours, R-compound tires, GT3 seats, Color coded seat belts and on and on and on......
Chuck - the SSK is a great DIY (do-it-yourself) project that takes 1.5 to 2 hours the first time. Not difficult and shortens the shift throw about 30%.
trade it in for a C4S.....wish I could
or...
wheel,
side marker/rear lights,
exhaust/tips
cold air or evo (depending on your cash situation and crazyness)
stereo..but if you change the exhaust..your music is the sound of the engine!
bumpers/rockers
some carbon in the interior
A few ideas for you if you want to improve your 996 for the track:
1/ Better brake fluid (higher boiling point)
2/ Porterfield R-4 or Pagid Orange brake pads
3/ Michelin cup car tires (get a set of spare rims)
4/ GT3 sway bars
5/ PSS9 shocks
In that order. Don't worry about engine or aerodynamic mods. Chances are neither horsepower nor downforce are the limiters to your lap times, at least not yet.
