Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Im looking to do the gundo hack. What parts should I have handy for the reinstall. Imagine some pieces will need to be replaced. Anyone have experience here? My local muffler repair shop will be doing the work

POST 2Original post

I wouldn't do the Gundo hack as it won't sound much different then it does stock....the Fisker hack is much better if you're looking for more sound. I've done both and fisker is much better! If you want overall better performance and sound, gut your stock mufflers (did that as well) and thats the best way to go if you don't want to spend a lot of money on aftermarket mufflers. As for tools, there's nothing special needed. Simple to take off and reconnect. .

POST 3Original post

New clamps bc the old ones may fall apart. New nuts & bolts, old ones may be so corroded you have to grind them off to take pieces apart. I don't remember if there isa triangle gasket in there on each side --- if so, get new ones. YMMV

POST 4Original post

What you'll need depends on mileage and location of the 996. My lower mileage southern car only needed tools for exhaust work. Salt belt area cars will need a lot of replacement hardware at a minimum.

POST 5Original post

The clamps for the exhaust tips will likely be rusty so get those replaced + I'd invest in nice stainless steel hardware. This will significantly prevent rusting. I apply a layer of anti-corrosive lubricant that also displaces water and then add anti seize to all threads. Doing that has allowed me to get my full exhaust in less than 30mins.

Wow. Someone after my own thinking. I had my mufflers gutted years ago (since been replaced for cargraphic). Then sound and performance was awesome. Light weight and great sound. That's the way to go IMHO.

You can reuse the exhaust tip clamps.....yes they will be slightly rusted but I reused mine without issue.
