Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Since then, I have cleaned the whole area and it just barely appears after about a week, so I wipe it off again.
Leading evidence: 'Clean whole area and it just barely appears' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'cam covers' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check o-ring leak now' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I have a warranty anyway- but it'd be cool if I didn't have to worry about it (if it WAS the spark boot O-rings).

Mine seems like it is only weeping at the seal, but I will have to take off that shield and check for the o-ring leak now.

My engine is running nice and strong and is still topped off with oil, so it must have started not too long ago.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I think I'm getting Karma for bragging that my 85,000+ mile '99 996 doesn't ever drip or use any oil.
Today I came out of work and noticed a little spot beneath my engine on the left side. It looked like a couple drips worth - enough to catch my eye. I came home for lunch and noticed a couple drips where I park at home, also- I just didn't see them before.
I looked underneath and there was oil on my header, where it appeared to drip on it from somewhere on the engine above it. I saw where it seemed wet with oil on the engine above it, but I can't identify it properly. I have to get back to work and can't get dirty, but I'm wondering if this sounds familiar to anyone?
I have an extended warranty that also covers seals and gaskets - plus I'm close to a 90,000mile servicing anyway, but hopefully it isn't too big of a deal.
Anyone ever had an oil drip fixed that is similar to this?

El,
Sounds like cam covers-no biggy. I have experienced exactly same thing (if I'm understanding your description). If the drip came from the middle of the car and level with the rear wheels,it could be the RMS. The exact position of the droplet(s) will give you a reasonable clue before getting under for a closer look. I'm a bit annoyed for you and me because your lack of problems was giving me some confidence. My 99's got 33kmiles, so 85 is still excellent for what I'm sure is only cam cover leakage.

Try these threads from RennTech and see if they match up with what you are seeing. I think that the first one in particular sounds very similar to what you are describing, which would thus suggest a cam cover leak. Hope it helps.

Oh man, good links. Maybe I should look closer too. Mine seems like it is only weeping at the seal, but I will have to take off that shield and check for the o-ring leak now. Damn! Rennlist is fun but scary sometimes. I wonder if the bird flu forum is as exciting?
^ Yup - looks like the same thing as in those pictures - same exhaust header and everything. Looks like, from reading the threads, it's either the cam cover or leaking Spark Boot O-rings. Apparantly there was a TSB (what does that stand for, anyway) indicating early 99 motors should have those replaced or something (?).. does that mean they will do it for free? I have a warranty anyway- but it'd be cool if I didn't have to worry about it (if it WAS the spark boot O-rings).
