Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The car was parked for three months with the hardtop installed. After removing the hardtop, the rear quarter windows can be lowered using the switch, but they will not go back up. They only raise when the hardtop is installed again. The soft top is also not working. When I press the roof switch, I only hear a single click.Does anyone know what could be causing this problem?

Welcome to the forum...!!! Make sure handbrake light is on in dash, hand brake firmly applied. Rear windows will not go up till either hard top or soft top is up/on. normal.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The parking brake was not engaged. Am I correct that the parking brake also has to be engaged for the soft top to close? Or should the soft top close even if the parking brake is not engaged?

POST 4Original post

Quotes source post: 20669376

Need to pull parking brake up for soft top to close. Rear windows will not come up unless hard top is on or soft top is closed.

POST 5Original post

Just for the sake of completeness, in a 996.2, the parking brake does not need to be engaged for the top to open or close - you just need to be going less than 50mph.

POST 6Original post

On 996.2 yes the parking brake does not need to be pulled, and the correct speed is 30 mph and below you can operate the top up or down.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, everyone. The problem turned out to be the parking brake switch.

Hmmm, maybe later year 996.2 ? Because my 2002 C2 996.2 will absolutely not work without hand brake on... please take a video of closing top at 50mph.

^^^ this. My top sequence will not start, either up or down, without the handbrake pulled. 2002 C2 Cab 6MT.

The 02 Cab has a 6-1-2002 build and works like the 04 Cab,
