Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Whuddup fellas? Gotta sand/beach question for ya... I drove my 996 on the beach during late this summer. I opened up the air filter right after getting off of the beach to knock the sand out of it and right after I put it back together, the check engine light came on. So, besides the obvious of changing the oil and replacing the air filter, what do I need to do? Thanks.
What should you do? Was it an ocean beach or a lake beach? Did you get any salt water on the car? If so I'd be worried about rust. I know Porsche has good rust protection, but I've known of other people in non-Porsches that lived in New Jersey that developed significant rust by driving on the beach and getting their cars wet with salt water.

CEL coming on could be a complete coincidence to the air filter change and the beach trip and have nothing to do with either.
I will say your comment about getting the sand out of the air filter is disturbing. The factory designed box sucks air from the top and the filter completely seals off any access to the intake from the outside world. If sand was actually in the air filter when you removed it I hope you were careful to prevent any sand from getting into the airbox on the intake side. Sand being sucked into the engine can not be a good thing. That said I think that if sand did get into the engine you would have a much bigger problem than a CEL and the car would exhibit much greater symptoms of problems. As for an oil change, it is also unlikely that you got sand into the oil without the engine exhibiting a lot more trouble than a CEL.
Oh yeah, post some pictures of the day at the beach with some of the finer bikini clad women
lol. A car that wasn't rust proofed that was driven on the beach in salt water would get rusty overnight, it would take years to eat the metal away, but there would be superficial rust.
Uhhh....
1) It was fun.
2) Mad mad women.
3) There were other 996's out there...believe it or not.
4) Ocean beach.
5) Mad mad women.
6) Would I do it again? Yes. But only in this 996. Not in my next one.
I was just asking about what kind of maintenance I need to do now. It did have sand in the air filter. It did have sand in the bottom of the air box. I cleaned them to the best of my ability. It isn't running worse. It has always had problems running at idle with the a/c off ever since I bought it, and these problems haven't subsided nor worsened.
I have pics of me in hotel rooms with various women...and I have pics of my car on the ferry you have to ride out to the part of the beach we were on...but no pics of various women on my car on the beach....sorrah.
