Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If you need to wait, to do so I would, the changes from 2001 to 2002 are more than a little significant in my opinion.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am shopping for my first Porsche. I think my budget will allow me to get into a nice 2000 C2, maybe a 2001. I have seen a few that look nice at a dealership in Chicago called Luxury Motors. Does anyone here have experience dealing with these people? If so, please send me your thoughts. Also, if you have a nice C2 for sale PM me.
TIA

I don't have any experience with Luxury Motors, but I thought I would throw out the possibility of getting at least a 2002.

There was some negative comments on the Carrera GT Forum (if I recall correctly) about Luxury Motors. Reportedly, a few buyers have filed complaints against them with the Better Business Bureau, and a few buyers have reportedly sued them to get resolutions to their issues. You should do a "search" on Luxury Motors onthe Carrera GT, 996, and 997 forums. That could end up being 30 minutes well spent!!
They advertise on some of the big european car sites I was actually thinking of importing one from them back to Europe until I found our the cost and hassel involved. I did some research on them and found stories about mafia related etc. Then again it is always the people who are pissed off that write nasty things on the internet. The satified customers have less need to write something because they are happy.
If I were going to buy a car from them I would have to be on the ground and get it and check it all out. That is common sense anyway.
How much is your budget? I think that if you let people here know how much you are willing to spend, you can get some good opinions and perhaps locate the right car for you. Also, are you looking for a hard top or a cab? I just went through a 5 month search of 993s and 996s before finding our what I was comfortable spending. Also, I looked at 2000-2001 996s compared to '02 and newer. The '02 is a slightly better car, but the improvements didn't seem to me to justify the big jump you have to make in purchase price. That said, if your budget is big, my advice is to go as new and low mileage as you can, as well as certified pre-owned. We're going into a time of year where dealerships are starting to discount used 911s quite a bit, even those under warranty.
Blackcab - thanks for the post, i'd ove to talk to you about what you learned in your search...sounds like I am in the same place you were a few months back. My budget is +/- $40K but f course, would love to have as much as possible left over for mods!
$40K sounds about right for a 2000 C2, at least in the Atlanta area. And that would be from an individual seller, not a dealer. The online pricing models at Edmunds, KBB, etc seem useless in the big cities where collectors and dealers often charge much more than the car is "supposed" to be worth. If you can travel to look at cars, you have an edge.
feel free to send me a personal message with your number - I'll give you a buzz this week and help as much as I can - in general, if you are going hardtop, 40k with a little wiggle room will put you in a car in really good shape - you need some patience and you need to look around, as some people try to kill you on price just because of the "Porsche" name - they're waiting for someone to show up who hasn't done any homework
