Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

I have heard that you can hard start the ECU by disconnecting the battery, thereby letting the "power" chip do it's thing, but you will have to continue to reset the ECU.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Amigo's I was just reviewing the power-tech website and they are now offering the Upsolute Power chip - They are advertising 20hp and 22 trq gain from a standard 996 - Is this possible, does anyone have any insight to this ? Read below: Engine size 3387 3387 Compression 11.3:1 11.3:1 Power (hp) 300 HP/PS OEM 322 HP/PS - CHIP Power (kW) 221 kW 237 kW Torque 258 ft / lb - OEM 273 ft / lb - CHIP Max Speed 175 mph (280 km/h) 178 mph (285 km/h) Fuel consum. 56 mph (90kmh) 19 mpg (12.2 l/100km) 19 mpg (12.2 l/100km) Fuel consum. 75mph (120kmh) 19 mpg (12.5 l/100km) 19 mpg (12.5 l/100km) Fuel consum. city 15 mpg (15.3 l/100km) 19 mpg(12.2 l/100km)

POST 2Original post

If I ever decided to go down this path, there is only one correct way to do it: 1) freer flowing intake and filter 2) headers 3) freer flowing exhaust 4) and finally, a remapped ECU done on a dyno after 1 through 3 are done. From my understanding the ECU will compensate for any "power" chip added on and bring back "things" to stock. I have heard that you can hard start the ECU by disconnecting the battery, thereby letting the "power" chip do it's thing, but you will have to continue to reset the ECU. Not fun in my opinion. For less than a 10% bump and with potential warranty issues, I wouldn't do it.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No - I do not want to upgrade anything at this point, I was simply reviewing an article which lead me to this.

POST 5Original post

Beware of the exaggerated claims of chip-tuners. Mostly baloney. But people absolutely want to believe the claims and so buy the chips.

POST 6Original post

Haven't looked at the site but I notice someone is selling a "chip" (simple 1/4 watt resistor) that simply "lies" to the ecu about the temperature of the incoming airflow in order to cause a richer mixture and thereby more HP. Assuming it only kicks into the circuit at WOT there's probably some validity to the 20HP claim.

POST 7Original post

I think you mean that it runs the car lean as the ritch mixture would loose HP.

POST 8Original post

Just a little to lean and there goes the valves or a piston.
