the TT tranny can be used with a nose cone swap to eliminate the forward drive shaft -

No reason you have to use the Front drive line as it is purely mechanical.

Motec would be easier and generate more power but you are looking at 5-7K for the ecu + 2-3K for the ADL dash + a minium of 3K for the setup (fly an expert out to have it done right) = 10-13K and you still have to do a lot of wiring but you can delete all the complicated systems (DME to Tip Controller sync, air bags, traction control (use the Motec's), etc.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

HI GUYS
Need some input
Got a good chance to purchase a wrecked 02 996 TT.
the 996TT [ body] is gone ,i am thinking maby i should drop the TT
powertrain into my 99 C2.
can that be done ?
if yes info PLZ !

SHANE
it is going to be a big job.
a partial to do list
intercooler to top of engine ala 993 TT
E-gas intigration which means......
wiring harness swap, pedals, DME, insterments, ABS, etc. (it is all intigrated)
A cheaper option would be to go with a Motec so similar setup
the TT tranny can be used with a nose cone swap to eliminate the forward drive shaft -
Hi Rob
i will have all the parts that you listed here [its a complete wreck]
will the TT engine fit the c2 engine bay ?
do i have to change 1/4 panel skins for the intercoolers ?
can i set up this conversion as a rear wheel drive only [what i am trying
to say is...do i have to set it up as an AWD or by not installing the frt drive
shaft frt diff and frt axels i can get away with it as a rwd vehicle ?
if i can get away with a rwd only ,do i have to change the front suspension ?
my c2 is a 6spd the TT is a tip .......would this be a problem ?
PLZ .......INPUT

interesting,
This is my Opinion only - so don't take it as i have done this.
The Tip control interfaces with the DME - so there will be an issue there - you will need a 6 Speed DME at the last to eliminate this issue (Same intigration with the 964 series and above)
the intercoolers can be done either on the sides as a stock TT would do or rerouted to the top of the engine (check out some of 9ff's narrow body turbo cars)
I have no idea if the 996 C2 tranny (G96/30) will mate with the Turbo block - the GT-3 Tranny (G96/90) will (they both use the so called GT block - same as the old 964 block)
even if it mates with the block the turbo motor has 100+ extra HP so it probably will not last. No reason you have to use the Front drive line as it is purely mechanical.
Like i said it is a huge project and at the end of the day - you will probably have enough sunk into it that you could have bought a turbo, Plus the resale value of it after it's done will be Nil.
Not trying to discurage you, but....i just don't think it is worth it unless you have a very specific purpose in mind (similar to 9ff whom wanted to top 200mph as an advertising for thier business, they are shooting for 250mph)
I think the chance to get this right for a non-professional is slim to none, since there will be a lot to do. And you won't have re-sale value that would match your investment in the end, look at earlier generation cars that have added the Protomotive turbo kits. I say sell your car and get a TT.
How salvagable is the TT? Maybe it would be cheaper to reuild the TT. Otherwise it's a do-able project but expensive. Maybe talk to Ruf about using all the TT parts and converting your C2 into a narrow body Ruf Turbo R.
It is DEFINITELY possible and pretty straightforward actually*** However, it still a big job and will need a specialist who's experienced in these types of conversions on porsches. Contact Protomotovie in FL, he actually told me to considering have him do the same conversion you're looking to do when I suggested having my 3.6L C2 built for boost and TT'ed. If you already having the entire TT powertrain it's going to be much cheaper, probably $10-to-$15K in labor to complete the conversion. But your car will be an absolute rocketship**
Cupcar: Considering what RUF wants for the SC, I can only imagine the $. The RUF SC does however look very nice. I wonder how conservative the 80 WHP kick is?
Better off rebuilding the TT or trading in your car on a TT. The resale value on a moderately modded car is next to nothing (just ask the sc guys)and a total bastardization project car is less than nill. Alot of guys who have these cars end up returning them to stock to make a sale, sorry, but gotta think realistically and semi long term.
i have to agree
I am pretty much giving up on modifying Street cars - you usually end up with worse balanced car than you started with.
Race cars are another matter entirely
Yes, for the street stick with factory/OEM for the major things, aftermarket for minor ad ons. However, the only "tuner" I would even consider is Ruf ( and he's not even a tuner) because you get what you pay for.
chris
i can not agree more........but the price i can get it is so tempting.....
it is driving me nuts thinking it can be done and i will have to pass on that
oppertunity
its very hard to say no

Just for ##$% and giggles. What do you think the resale of a RUF certified SC car is. The going rate with install is $20k and comes with a two year engine warranty. RUF says its good for 60 HP on an 01'. Not a lot of bang for the back, but figure an EVO costs $10k plus install and an extended warranty is a couple grand, its not totally nuts. Also, have a RUF anything porsche is pretty cool.
#### i can pic up that wreck for aprox 13k then i have to deal with re & re .
i wonder what will be the resale value of a 99C2 with OEM TT
POWERTRAIN?
we have to remember this is oem product ,now...if anyone here would be looking for a 99 c2 ,what would be your choice ?
1: NA 3.4l c2
2: 3.4 ruf sc 996
3: 3.4 evo sc 996
4: OR 99 c2 with oem tt powertrain
lets assume that prices for vehicles 2 ,3 and 4 is more or less the same !
what would be your call ?
Well, I would say that the NA 3.4l would be the most desirable, as many don't want any mods. Then I would think the RUF unit is a very close second. Its not a RUF vin, so its a little different. I think the EVO SC and the turbo are close 3/4th. Who do you call to fix your 996 c2 turbo conversion???? At the very least, the Evo unit has some support.
Dude, buy the wrecked car for the lowest price you can get it and start an e-bay used-parts business. Take the money you make from that, and sell your car and buy a used TT in your budget.
There will be no cheaper/better route, so if you don't like that, walk away and count your lucky stars you did...
none!!!
option 5. save money somehow and buy the original stock TT.
conversion 4: OR 99 c2 with oem tt powertrain will be endless and you will be visiting garages for the rest of your life!!! (in fact car's life)
Pure math:
13K for wreck TT W/Tip
7K for Labor to install (no way, it's going to be more like 20K unless you 100% DYI) Personally i think the electrical work is going to be 5-8K alone to get all the systems talking to each other.
5K used mic TT parts (wiring harness, DME's etc - Again i think this number is light by about 5K)
Humm - that's 25K to 40K for the conversion alone + the 35K you can get for your car you are at 60-75K - a TT (01') is around 80K and will retain some % of the value in it for the years to come.
Don't let me discourage you - it would be hella cool to do - So if your commited go for it.
Just make sure your eyes are open before you jump into the waters.
But hey the tuner industry is what a multi-billion doller industry in the US - I can see why
