Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm replacing the coolant tank on my 1999 996 and need to know what part#'s will fit my car. Or what is the most up to date part# from Porsche to cure the faulty tank problem. Also, will part# 996 106 157 03, which I'm pretty sure is for a 2003, fit my car? Thanks for the help. Nick

POST 2Original post

Just replaced the tank on my 99. Part numbers: 996.106.147.56 Tank 996.106.447.01 Cap 996.641.503.00 water level switch This is a PITA job!

POST 3Original post

The part numbers StevenB lists are exactly the ones that I recently replaced my tank, cap and level sensor with. Its best to replace everything esp the level sensor switch. Don't forget the Porsche Coolant 000 043 300 88. Had mine done at an independent for 598.88. I concur...its a PITA DIY but it can be done. If you have any coolant dripping on the driver's side exhaust pipe, use 000 steel wool to rub off residue.

POST 4Original post

Yeah, mine cost $600 to replace and the dealer said, "you don't want to attempt this." I know he's got skin in the game, but I've worked with these guys for 17 years. Funny how an $800 RMS gets all the press and this $600 problem gets only sporadic comments. FWIW, this issue torqued me more than the RMS. Good luck with the fix.

POST 5Original post

I got my bottle out in about 30 min. now getting it back in is a different stroy. it sucks!
