Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was sitting in traffic on my way home from work yesterday. It was a beautiful autumn day. Had the windows down and the sunroof open. Traffic was stopped both ways. A guy on the other side in a beater Datsun stuck his head out and said "yew look lahk a piece o' sh*t". I was too stunned to even reply...

POST 3Original post

I moved from Portland, OR to Asheville, NC about a year ago. We were in Portland for almost 10 years and really enjoyed it. There are many more toothless rednecks out here and I'm surprised that I haven't had more comments like that. You reacted exactly as I would have. Thanks for sharing the story. Let it go. Be glad that you are close to PIR. I never started following racing until I moved out here (American Le Mans, SCCA, F1, Rolex Series, etc.-just about everything except NASCAR). The nearest track for me is a couple hours away now.

POST 5Original post

Some people have no respect. Just bc you drive a Porsche, they think you have no feelings. I hope that didn't ruin your drive. I've had someone spaying windshield fluid washer in a tall SUV while I was next to her w my top down. Needless to say, I got some in my face and couldn't even stare into that person's face bc of the SUV's height. Don't mess w those aholes. Just laugh at them for their low life trashy POS. It's times like these I don't feel back being a dick. It's a scary world out there. I've had a women jumping out of her car only to scald at me for reading my mail at a light. People just think they rule the world.

POST 6Original post

i agree many of these people just dont understand i choose to ignore them i do not eve dignify their ignorance with a look i just tear away and pass them

POST 7Original post

A couple weeks after I got my sl55 I had a guy in the passenger of an old beater at a red light seat flick me off for no reason.. I asked him what was up as he was right next to me.. and he told me my car was a piece of sh*t.. i laughed to myself as they drove away in their rattling 1984 pontiac.. I didn't say anything, because getting beat up by five black guys was not something I was looking for :> one just has to realize, jealousy comes from insecurity... and if anything, feel sorry for them for being so miserable and such miserable people.. think about it... have you ever had anyone in a nice car, or someone with their life going great ever insult you? :> usually insults come from people that have the "money buys happiness philosophy and i'm not happy because i don't have money" philosophy... so they are upset that others "appear happy" makes them feel better about themselves, by putting someone more successful than them down.. the whole immature bully mentality, which should have stopped being used in high school, but some people never quite mature past that stage..

POST 8Original post

Growing up, I used to want a vanity license plate that read "2HVIS2B"! For those who dont figure it out, that reads: to have is to be. Of course this would go on my dream sports car. As I grew up and out of that flashy, show off to others what I have phase, I came to realize I dont have to show off anything at all. I dont have to spend big to prove anything to others. Why keep up with the jones's, when you can be the jones. But of course some material posessions just show off naturally, like a gorgeous porsche. And the reactions of others, trying to keep up with the jones's when they realize they cant, is to reduce themselves to the only other thing they can; namely envy and spite. They want to bring you down to their low class (personality wise). Rather than rise up and say, "one day, I am going to earn one of those". I would ask people on the street when I saw them drive a nice car what they did for a living. You know, to figure out what type of career I need to pursue to attain the dream items I desired. I rose up to the challenge and earned my car. Let the low life, low class, piece of sh*ts, just watch me drive by and say to themselves in self retrospect, "If I just tried, maybe I can achieve the same things to". Absolutely no regrets!!! Peter

Lee- "What's that you say? I don't speak *******." Try that response next time.

POST 10Original post

"I didn't say anything, because getting beat up by five black guys was not something I was looking for :>" Eh, don't be a wuss bob. A good asswhoopin' builds character...LOL.

POST 13Original post

Lee, If that diplomat ever visited Rennlist and read your posts, he would know that you're a pretty decent fellow. Oh, my bad, maybe he can't read. I was cruising along PCH with the top down ('02 C2) a couple of months ago - beautiful afternoon, enoying the sights. I was stopped a red light when a couple of Harleys with gaudy bolt on cosmetic accessories and uncorked pipes came up along the left side of me. It was obnoxiously loud. No, really. I took off a little quicker than normal (didn't redline it, not even close) when the light turned green to save my left ear drum. As I shifted into 2nd and glanced at my rearview at the bikes, I realized that these gentlemen had decided with no proper indication to me, that this was some sort of competition. I thought it was goofy because I wasn't racing and they were trying so hard catch up - geez their pipes were so frickin' loud and at this point, I was 2 car lengths in front of them. Further on down the road, stopped in traffic at another red light, I see these guys behind me weaving through the stopped cars. One of them pulled right up to me and says: "You may be faster, but you'll never be as cool." Alrighty then. I just gave him my biggest, brightest smile. I guess I'll have to make do with being uncool. FWIW, I've ridden, owned and enjoyed my fair share of bikes for the past 30 years, including HDs. My baby was a 1958 Panhead and if I were to ever by another Harley, it would be a Panhead - I just love 'em. My next bike will be a Ducati, though.

POST 14Original post

That is one thing about So.Cal there are so many 996's and Boxsters driving around they just blend. I never had this type of an experience with my Modded 996 or modded CayenneS DD... I did have a lot of "brotha's" tell me my Cayenne was "OFF THE HOOK" more then once. I think it's the Black 22" wheels with polished lips

POST 15Original post

" I think it's the Black 22" wheels with polished lips" Yep, that's a very popular look in any ghetto.

POST 16Original post

tonight I got flicked off by a 75+ year old grandma in the porsche.. just driving normally.. she was driving, one of those exotic 1986 chevy berettas i think.. wasn't quite sure why, but it was quite amuising.. some people grow up miserable, and die miserable with their lives :>

POST 17Original post

Bob: You were driving too slowly for her. She probably had a hot date and you made her late. BTW how's your Porsche holding up now? Is your 996 now trouble free?

POST 18Original post

yup, trouble fee without problems for almost a year now.. go figure, after I get the warranty.. but regardless, $47,000 in repairs later..

POST 19Original post

Yup, that's the way it generally works. Anyway here's hoping that you have years of trouble free driving. You've certainly earned it.

POST 20Original post

The other night driving home, some ahole in a ricemobile assumed I was 'racing' him since I passed his slow *** ride. The next thing I know he's next to me flipping me off and doing neutral drops, I ignored him and just cranked up my Skynyrd CD. The ******* then starts weaving in and out of traffic trying to show off, of course he loses it and hits the rear quarter of a van with a very large, angry black man driving, debris is everywhere, I'm sure traffic was blocked up for hours behind me, what a loser. Listen Lee, you worked damn hard for that car/perk, f' these lowlifes. If they ever decided to work their asses off like you and me, they could buy one too. But, alas they won't and will never own or drive a porsche unless they steal it, hence the jealousy.

POST 21Original post

Next time just smile and wave...you see you are better than that! Take the upper road and you'll feel better in the long run and less chance of getting "road raged". Well it sure sounds like good advice...must admit I trouble with my own advice sometimes.

POST 22Original post

At least he didn't say your car looked like a piece of sh*t! So, other than that, how ya doing Lee.

POST 23Original post

I think it's the 911 thing. I never get anything but compliments in my 928, and i work in the ghetto 5 nights a week(repossessor). A lot of people(even people that like p-cars) seem to have a weed up their *** over the 911.

POST 25Original post

Hey Lee, I'm sure this guy wasn't looking at you or the 911. I'm betting he was looking in the mirror! Chuck

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Life is good, Jim. Mitty and I had a good time down at the Manila Express. It occured to me, 2 days later, that he must have seen his reflection in my shiny, well cared for paint!

POST 27Original post

Maybe they were annoyed because they were driving their clapped-out spare cars while their 911's were in for RMS replacement? I kid, I kid!

POST 28Original post

i keep forgetting how loud my fabspeed muffler bypass is.. yesterday i was at a party and had the car idling for a minute outside while checking for something, and some guy in the neighborhood came out of his house, and told me "hey i know you have a nice car, but quit revving your engine" as i was waking up the entire neighborhood.. this was after the 75 year old grandma flicked me off... i just cause problems wherever i go, dont' i.. usually my friends know i'm about to arrive 5 minutes before I show up at their place, as they can hear the car 12-13 blocks away...

POST 29Original post

Kool! Funny. When you mention the Manila Express, you have to realize that I lived for years in the Bay Area and down there that was Friday and Saturday night on El Camino!

POST 30Original post

People have put out cigarette butts on my car (twice) and I have had two people hit my car while it was parked, obviously they didn't leave a note (i am dealing with insurance right now). It's also funny because people don't "check out" my car that much, though I know they notice it. When I see a cool car, Porsche, MB, New 'Stang, or whatever, I check it out. People in B-more feel that they cannot "look" because it will give the owner some satisfaction they don't want him/her to have. People are haters.

POST 31Original post

Funny thing, someone above said it's a 911 thing....I am taking delivery of my 968 next week and will report in on how people react to that car...I would think most people won't know what the hell it is. I have had some negative reaction from people in my car as well, but I guess some people feel I'm too young to be driving a 911 [I'm almost 25 now]. Eff 'em. I don't drive like a dick, and if people want to be mad, so be it. No one can avoid having a run-in with an A-hole at least a few times in their lives; I just try to remember that it's their problem, not mine, and hopefully I made them feel a bit better about themselves when they vent out at me on the road.

POST 32Original post

Last week I was in Miami, heading to my Hotel on the I-95 and got off at 8th St N/E instead of 8th St S/E...AFTER I noticed that the neighbourhood wasn't that great and stopped at a red light, a drunken street person started to bang on my car with both fists..which incidently were both in a cast ???!!!??? Calling me all sort of name...I ran the red light , hoping to see a cop. The good news.... I was in a rental car because I was on vacation...go rental, go mental. I've since had a few nightmare thinking what would have happen if I had been driving my P-Car...

POST 33Original post

I was amazed the other day. I walked out of a 7-11 to my car, and noticed what looked like a scratch on my drivers side rocker panel. I knealt over to look and saw it wasn't a scratch, but a little debris that had stuck to the car. I wiped it off and went to get in, and as I did, I heard "oh no, my pretty Porsche is scratched" in an obviously sarcastic, *******-ish voice. I turned around and saw two kids about 14 years old sipping slurpees on a bench in front of the store. One was looking right at me talking trash, the other was just looking. I got in, started it up, and pulled over in front of them. Me: "You guys want to go for a ride so I can show you what this car's all about?" Him: "Uhh...uhhh" Me: "If you do, I hope you're wearing a diaper so you don't mess up my seats when you **** your pants." Him: "uhhh..no, that's ok". I smiled and started to drive off, when I noticed his little buddy laughing, presumably at him. I mean, what makes people think they can just say anything to a complete stranger, totally unprovoked?

POST 34Original post

I had a guy in a POS pull next to me and give me the finger. I wasn't the bigger man I should have been and tried to ram my $100,000 911 into his $2,000 wretched domestic vehicle. He freaked out and drove off very scared... I was having a bad day... very stupid.

Heh, i get that too. I have a full race Borla exhaust system on my 928S. I was collecting money off some guy the other night in lieu of repoing his car and one of the neighbors came out and began bitching up a storm about my 928 idling in the middle of the street. Of course i did a nice hole shot when i left.

On a flip note, I had a black guy pull up next to me in traffic yesterday and tell me "That's a Porsche, right", I smiled and I let him pull up in front of me he then gave me the "Power to the people" fist in the air sign as to say "right on man"! Thought that was pretty nice..... -Eli

I've had my share of a-holes in my first year of ownership [as of Sept 26 (YEE-HAAAA!!!!)] Some unplesant, some scary, some just plain stupid. But above all I've had more compliments, thumbs-up and cheers from other cool folks. So enjoy the precious moments behind the wheel of your great P-cars. Ignore crap that may come your way. You are experiencing your dream, while all those a-holes are thriving in their own crap!. My 2 centavos. Cheers.

Obviously he was an air cooled guy... Seriously, just put it in the ego bank for a day when you feel down. Take it out and laugh at the sad *******.

POST 52Original post

I had a funny incident happen to me a few years ago while driving my 993. I live out in the country and there's not too many places to pass safely. Anyway I was following this guy who was driving a Hoda Civic that was going around 30MPH in a 40 MPH zone. After following him for a couple of minutes, I decided to pass him in a no pass zone. The road was clear and I could see over 100" ahead and there was no traffic. I executed the pass very quickly, and as soon as I passed the guy he sped up and tailgated me until we got to a stop sign. At that point he jumped up out of his car and started cursing me, saying that you f'n Porsche guys think you own the road. The guy looked to be around 40 years old, balding, and weighed around 150 lbs. So I got out of my car and said I'm sorry and he immediately said that's OK and walked back to his car. So I'm wondering if it was my apology or my size that caused him to change his attitude. I'm around 6'4'' and weigh around 260 lbs, and I'm an active power lifter. I probably didn't fit the profile of the sterotypical Porsche driver that the guy had.

POST 53Original post

It was cruel of you to not make it clear you were NOT in your P-car before telling that story. I was very upset until I got to that part! Polver

POST 54Original post

I have had mostly positive (aka Oooh, Aaah, Cool Car!) experiences. The one that I liked the most was the day after I got back from my 1200 mile return trip after flying out to get it. I stopped by a buddy's house and he took his 1990 Targa with me (in my 95 Cab) to a little historic town for a beer. It was loaded with old Model T Fords. As we drove past a bunch of "not too clean cut guys" on Harleys, one gave a SMALL smile and nodded his head a couple of times. "PROPS" from a biker dude. Works for me.

POST 55Original post

I notice that most biker guys either give a good look or they try to take you on..... Most crotch rockets are those with the need for speed on a budget.... Others such as myself just like to collect more cars and bikes than they can ride..... I'm down to two right now..... Makes life a little easier... -Eli
