Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey everyone - my 996.1 (2001) passenger side muffler is rattling so I need to replace. Part # is 996.111.121.70 Anyone here have a used one for sale by chance? I live in the Toronto, Canada area, but also have a US shipping address since I live near Buffalo. Thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

Is it confirmed to be the muffler? The catalytic converters seem prone to rattling when the cores come loose.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Had it on the hoist and it sure sounded like the muffler (different sounds by tapping on passenger side vs drivers side while car was cold) & prevalent at start-up. My car is still almost completely stock (aside from a Rennline phone mount & a silver Carrera badge instead of a black one), so I want to keep that going instead of going aftermarket.

I had the same problems with my mufflers. Sent mine to Darin at FD Motorsports and he cleanly repaired the rattling baffles in both boxes. He said at the age of these cars it's a common repair. Then he added a bypass pipe for that perfect flat six sound. It's the single best enhancement/repair you can do outside of a suspension refresh. These are them with his signature vapor honing to make them look better than new. Bradley
