Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
i have PSE on my 996 C2 01, but when it is switched off (i.e no sport sound ) there is a very anoying sound like a rattle from the left side exhaust box, (driver's side).
as you rev up 1200rpm + the rattle goes away...
technicians at OPC verified me that this is normal.
p.s. rattle sound is not present whan PSE is switched on.
p.s2 rattle sound was-is present from day 1 of installation
any personal experience?
thanks in advance
No rattle is "normal".
If there is nothing loose causing the rattle then there is a broken weld inside of the muffler on that side. I've heard of 3 or 4 of these. The bad news is that if that is the early (small tube) PSE they don't make that design anymore and you'll have to buy both new mufflers with the bigger bore pipes (as they can't be mixed).
Check the actuator arms on the valves themselves, these are the external brackets and arms that close the valves. Much like old time carb linkage they are pressed together and will loosen over time. If this is the case try some WD 40 or other lubricant, it might help, but there is no way to tighten them. Worst case, as Loren alluded to, there is something broken inside the muffler and you're stuck getting a new P$E. I know of several PSE sets that had similar rattles, mine included. Something about valves on mufflers...
Take the muffler off (15 minutes) and have a look see. As above, check the valve. You will also be able to shake the muffler to see if noise is coming from inside. Chances are it is the valve which you should be able to either lube or insulate from rattling.

do you all have PSE?
or did you replies by knowledge of what you have heard?
does the PSE when off-sounds like a normal porsche exhaust?
I had an early version of PSE, I sold it to try something else, probably should have held onto it because you can't find that version anymore. I had it on my car for 2 years and had several episodes of rattles which came from the heat shields and actuator arms. The valves themselves were competent.
hi again,
OPC in athens Greece were I live, insist that the rattle is normal.
i have to inform you that:
1. PSE was bought from an OPC center in U.K 16 months ago (now out of warranty)
2. PSE was installed 14 months agoa by OPC in athens
3. Rattling was-is present since first day of installation.
ahat should i do?
thanks
thanks,
but again this is not the actual prob...
why OPC do not do it instead of me?
my car has extented porsche warranty and i do deserve different kind of service....
that specific OPC has been very helpfull till now and did repair my RMS prob with no prob since then at all
