Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I recently replaced my clutch and now I cannot shift into into second gear. I think this is funny because I did not have this problem before the repair. Now the shop is telling me that the "drive dogs" are most likely worn out and they have to remove the tranny and replace them. Is it me or is the shop screwing me?

POST 3Original post

In a gearbox, the tooth ratio between gears sets the ratio between them, but to transmit power the synchromesh as locked to the shaft, and is locked to the gear when selected by 'dog teeth', some on the synchro, some on the gear wheel. Some porsche boxes are known for having the dog teeth piece come off the gear, as they are a pressed on piece, not machined in one piece. jp

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok. Thanks for the info. I guess my question is: 1.) before I got the clutch fix I could get the car into 2nd gear. Now, after the clutch has been replaced 2nd gear does not work. Woundn't the problem with the "drive dogs" or my ability to get the car into 2nd gear appear before the clutch was replaced. 2.) Again, am I getting screwed?

POST 5Original post

Need more info - there is a difference between "2nd gear doesnt work" and "cant get it into 2nd" - which is it? If you cant mechanically get the lever into 2nd position, even with no engine, sounds like a selector problem. If the gearbox was removed, selector set up could have been changed. If the clutch is not throwing out properly (dragging), maybe the synchros are stopping it engaging. Are all the other gears selectable, and providing drive? If you CAN get it into 2nd position, but there is no drive, that a synchro/drive dogs problem , most likely. What is the model/year/gearbox? jp

Did they do anything inside the car like add a Short shifter as part of the service?
