This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suspected cause

I suspect Porsche has only so many AWD platforms available at any one time, so the Targa production would limit numbers of Turbos and C4S (and the C4S is selling pretty well).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I currently drive an '01 M3 convertible and am interested in my first Porsche. I love the idea and design of the Targa. But what would be even better would be a Targa feature on the Turbo...or on the C4S. It would be a big leap from the M3 to the 996TT, but a C4S Targa would be in between and would of course be awesome. I presume that the reasons are for not offering a Targa in a Turbo model may be the same reason they don't make a Turbo convertible...safety/structure issues for an extremely high performance car. Is that correct? Also...(I'm not yet knowledgeable about Porsches), do TT's come with a sunroof? Do C4S's come with a sunroof? Any clarification and explanation would be appreciated. But think for a minute...how awesome would a 996 Turbo Targa be??

POST 2Original post

As you mentioned Safety and Structure. Also the weight could be an issue.

I agree, C4S Targa would be sweet! I would love to see one of those, the standard sunroof on the TT and the other coupes is TINY! Regards, Dan

POST 5Original post

I think the factory will offer a TT cabrio. I've seen some spy photos of that and I think it will be offered but yeah i agree, a TT targa would really look cool

POST 6Original post

Porsche will have a 996 Turbo cab, due in 2003 I believe, and other than it will make a heavy car even heavier, there would be no issue with a C 4S Targa, structure-wise. I suspect it's other issues--Targas are not widely popular in the US, so could Porsche sell three models of Targa--C4S, C2 and Turbo--to warrant using up the finite number of AWD drive trains they have. I suspect Porsche has only so many AWD platforms available at any one time, so the Targa production would limit numbers of Turbos and C4S (and the C4S is selling pretty well).
