This is not a probability of success.

I personally do not think PCM or PCM2 is that great, however I do love the clean stock look.

It is also fairly easy to install as it just replaces the radio.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello,
Question for the pros. I did not order my car with the Porsche PCM (Porsche Communication Management) however I would like to add it now. I love the stock look.
Anyone ever do this? My car is a 2002 Targa with the in dash CD. I know the parts I would need include the complete screen, CD drive, and Nav antenna. Anything else? Anyone see a problem with this? I assume everything would fit well.
Can anyone recommend someone? I am in New York.
Best Regards,
Dan
I've heard that a PCM2 retrofit kit will be offered through Porsche Tequipment for MY03 cars later this year (which means that all MY03 cars will likely come with the wiring in place). I don't think you can easily retrofit MY02 cars.

PCM2 is much better if it can be retrofit.
The TrafficPro system is also very good if you just want good navigation. A number of folks have installed this Porsche Tequipment upgrade and love it. It is also fairly easy to install as it just replaces the radio. (Includes radio, cd player and navigation).
Yes, Finally someone has the same though as I do. I also want to retrofit PCM2 on my MY02 C4S. My car does not have PCM. I do not know why dealers in Los Angeles area do not like to order cars with PCM!!
The roads are too complicated too use PCM

Here is a MUCH better explanation why only 2003 on can get PCM2... from RC, www.rennteam.com
______________
NO. Reason: the MY 2003 cars are equipped with the MOST Bus technology and thePCM 2 is compatible with that technology only. The MOST Bus is kind of a multimedia networking interface, actually a fiber optic network system.
MOST was originally designed by Oasis siliconSystems AG in cooperation with BMW, Becker Radio, and DaimlerChrysler.
The use of a common high-speed bus could help carmakers and their suppliers simplify the process of adding to vehicles a host of multimedia devices such as navigation systems, CD players, video screens, digital radios, cell phones and in-car PCs. Today, vendors often redesign products several times to meet the

So I guess the Becker Traffic Pro is the only alterntive left for people with MY 99-02 to get a nav system o/t having been ordered with car.
Is this correct or am I missing something here?
Thanks for all of your help guys. I personally do not think PCM or PCM2 is that great, however I do love the clean stock look.
I am going to go with an aftermarket in dash popout Pioneer Monitor and a Pioneer DVD/NAV unit. For those of you that are interested, it is a spectacular setup. A friend of mine owns a car audio shop and swears by this setup. He has done a handful of 996s and boxsters.
I will install the popout monitor in place of the CD Storage Deck. I will install the DVD/NAV Drive in place of the Utility Shelf Deck. The Master AC Unit will stay in place as well as the Stock Radio.

Just another chime in here on singing the praises of the Traffic Pro. I've used a few NAV systems and this one is by far the fastest (least delay between selections, etc) and does a fine job. The head unit looks just like the one it replaces and even says Porsche on it.
