My dynos for octane 91 ran 255 bhp and octane 100 dynod at 264 from the wheels( I made a point to TRG not too tune too high or else mite trigger check engine lite because heard of two who had the check engine lite going on so didn't want that to happen to me).

People run dynos simply out of curiosity running a before and after when mod is done.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

If that is the case, do you still need to have the car on the dyno to do this or are they sold with an approximate "setting" based on your cars modifications, or are they just all the same and you hope they make a difference?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Ok, I see that a few of you have "chipped" your 996's (996flt6 and a couple others). Can you share your experience with a newer 996 owner? I'd like to consider it, but wonder about dyno results and the like. I'm considering TRG's Unichip (as there is a place close by) and the Autothority Chip. Both seem to have good reputations. Any advice? I have a 99 C2.
IMO the Unichip offers better flexiblilty because of its piggyback design and if you should buy another car(hopefully another p-car) that the hardware can be transferred to the next car and all you need is another tuning from the programmer. With other chips I think you have to send out the whole ecu unit so they can solder it in for you but heard they're maybe just as good performancewise with the Unichip. If you plan to do other mods like exhaust/intake/headers/cats etc. then I think the Unichip is easier to tune for. If I were you I would do a predyno run before nay mods are done so you got a baseline which I wished I done that way you got something to compare. My dynos for octane 91 ran 255 bhp and octane 100 dynod at 264 from the wheels( I made a point to TRG not too tune too high or else mite trigger check engine lite because heard of two who had the check engine lite going on so didn't want that to happen to me). Without any tuning and with the exhaust/intake done I noticed a loss of trq but only noticeable if I had a passenger and going up a steep hill but once the Unichip was done it was restored and it pulls much better then when stock. Good luck and hope to hear any updates. The Unichip just offers better flexibility and easier to fine tune for future mods. Regards. Mike
It's hard to believe, but there is a TRG location in Cincinnati. So, I think I'll travel on over there and see what's up. I didn't realize that the UNIChip is transferrable to another car...that makes a HUGE difference to me (I tend not to keep cars more than a few years). Thanks for the advice!

With these chips, do you really need to dyno the car? I have a C4 and I heard you can't run them on a dyno. Could you just have the chip installed and get some performance improvement although you may not get the optimal performance? I'm not sure if there's even a dyno in NH....
There are 4 wheel dyno machines but they are few but dynos can be done on a 2 wheel dyno by disengaging the front drive to measure rear wheel. Chips performance should be as good as the Unichip but doesn't offer the flexibility of the Unichip. People run dynos simply out of curiosity running a before and after when mod is done. Hope that helps ya. Mike
Just curious here. The performance chips you folks are referring to(not the unichip)are part of the ECU itself. They need to "burn these in" to be correct for the modifications you have performed? If that is the case, do you still need to have the car on the dyno to do this or are they sold with an approximate "setting" based on your cars modifications, or are they just all the same and you hope they make a difference?
Thanks
Companies like Gemballa/Rennsport etc. if there is a facility closeby can reprogram and burn in the chip according to what mods were done. I think Autothority is preset so I'm assuming it's been tuned on a stock 996 without any mods but could be wrong. The only bad thing is if you don't put mods all at once then they would have to burn in another chip for any future mods but could be wrong on that too-anyone has just did chips alone(not Unichip)? Regards. Mike
Thanks, I already have the Fabspeed intake, headers, high flow cats and exhaust. So there aint much left to do. More curious than anything. I race the car stock class and I don't thing this(chipping stuff) is allowed.
Dennis
What cats are you running on and how you like them? Heard mixed on the headers but some have pointed out that the cats made a difference. Regards. Mike
Hello, my entire exhaust is Gemballa. The sound is really awsome when the car is warm. I have never heard the car but at the track people say the "thing sound f'in awesome" going down the fron straight of NHIS. I really have mixed feelings about weather or not the car is faster. I definitely think it lost something in the lower RPMS(saw another post that supports this) but the car feels stronger over 90mph or so. It an expensive move for what amounts to "sound". I think remapping the ECU is probably necessary to take advantage. With all that extra flow capacity out the back, I am surprised that no one ever asks about boaring the throttle body, seams that is a avenue to explore, sorry just rambling.
Dennis and ckl93,
If you are interested in an AWD dyno, Adrenalin Motorsports, located in Auburn, MA has one. There is no need to disengage the drivetrain.
Numerous S4, WRX as well as 4x4 trucks get dynoed there.
Their website is <a href="http://www.adrenalinmotorsport.com" target="_blank">Adrenalin</a> and they are a Unichip dealer also.
Cheers
