Suggestion

The ROW m030 kit really isn't a very drastic change so it's pretty much zero risk that you won't like it if you like the stock.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, when I first got my 99 Mk1 at 81k, the suspension was tired - soft, wallowy, turn in was rubbery and overall it just didnt feel like a Porsche. I was starting to hate it but planned to update the suspension so I lived with it. But being the curious george that I am, I wanted to see how it would handle on the track. I didnt expect much, and in fact expected to hate it, and to find it not very confidence inspiring. Instead, I was more than pleasantly surprised - I was impressed! So I got renewed interest to update the suspension and ordered a ROW030 kit. While waiting for it, I took the car for a 900 mile road trip, and it acquitted itself very well, with the exception of some unexpected higher than normal temperatures. probably a low speed fan problem... anyhoo, now the original suspension seems to have "woken up" and it feels better and better...is this even possible?!? It feels so much better, in fact, that now Im debating installing the ROW kit! Am I crazy? Is it even possible for an old suspension to "wake up" and tighten up!?! hmmm...

POST 2Original post

If you like it with the stock suspension, just wait till you take it for a spin with the new suspension. You'll be happy you changed it! I did mine a couple of years ago with 95,000+ miles. Big difference.

POST 3Original post

At that mileage and age, you need new dampers even if you stick with the original springs. The ROW m030 kit really isn't a very drastic change so it's pretty much zero risk that you won't like it if you like the stock.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The funny thing is, I normally like MUCH stiffer suspensions - lowered H&R coilovers on my E39 Dinanized D5; I've driven the 7.2 GT3 RS quite extensively as well as the AMG E63 in sport and sport + settings. There was something surprisingly smooth about the 996 mk1 in transitions and mid and hi speed sweepers, and low speed switchbacks and chicanes weren't bad either. Never as laser precise or synaptically quick as the GT3RS but not completely dissatisfying either; and with it "getting tighter" after the spirited driving, I'm really left trying to figure out what's going on. I've got the ROW kit, in box, just sitting there... thanks for your comments and feedback!

POST 5Original post

I recently went from JIC coilovers and TRG sways back to stock and have also been impressed by the level of control, feedback, and comfort. The car is definitely "soft" in terms of roll, and the body moves around a lot more, but it drives like a sports car should. That said, put in the M030.
