The first photo shows it hanging off the clamshell cover, the other two photos show where it's located when installed correctly.

Was this the correct strip and/or have you had any issues re-using the old weather strip?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Yesterday was a gorgeous day in the mid 70s so on the drive home I put the top down for the first time. Since I pulled it directly into the garage when I arrived I left the top down all night.
So this morning I turn the car on and attempt to put the top up. It goes up put I hear a loud POP and look in my side mirror and see a huge piece of weatherstripping sticking out of the car!
I look in the back and notice that it's a piece of rubber that connects to the metal where the cover for the roof meets the body of the vehicle. I don't know what caused this or what happened but the rubber is pretty beat up now. I removed it since I didn't have time to work on it this morning. But is this a common occurrence? Should I just reinstall the same rubber with new clips or just buy a new strip altogether?
...guess I'm leaving the top up on the drive home tonight.
Yeah I know...I just didn't have time since I was on my way to the office. I'll post some this evening when I get home. Also while home I can look up what this part is called in the Porsche catalog.
Ok I fixed it. I still think this piece of rubber will need eventual replacement because there are some sections that seem a bit warped and are likely to catch again.
I looked it up in the Porsche catalog and the part # is 996 514 211 04
Here are some photos of what I am talking about. The first photo shows it hanging off the clamshell cover, the other two photos show where it's located when installed correctly.
Anyone else ever experience this? It's not a big deal but damn it scared me this morning with the way it popped off!
Well Tim, obviously spring sprung in Charlotte this morning.
Mine has been making a thump noise when the clamshell closes. I' going to take a look at that seal to see if it is binding and releasing as it closes.
Good Afternoon!
Just saw this old post of yours:
I just had the same issue with my 2002 C2 Cabrio yesterday! Was this the correct strip and/or have you had any issues re-using the old weather strip? Wondering if you had any new insight. Thanks for your time!

Sean,
I popped the original one back on there but it came off again. So I took it off completely and "fixed" it by using a pair of pliers and straightening out some of the kinks. I then applied some RTV to help keep it in place. Since then I've not had any problems.
I did call Suncoast and found that the part was correct and goes for about $150 or so. I forget the exact cost but if it gives me trouble again I'll just replace it.
Good luck!
My guess is that the rubber on the seal is starting to break down and get a little sticky. When you open the clamshell after it has been closed a while, it sticks to the rear deck and pulls away.
Reviving an old thread.
My weather stripping starting coming off like in Fpena's pics. I noticed that there is a clip missing ( (bad pic attached). Would anyone know the part number for the clip itself? My weather stripping is in great shape but somehow one clip came off and dissapeared.
Thanks!
Well, a typical comment is "this thread is useless without pics", but in this case, this post is useless WITH pics.
Sorry, but I can't tell what I'm looking at in that blurry sideways pic. :P Try again?
I can make it out only because I know what he's referencing.
When I get home I'll try to look up the part in the catalog and see if I can find a # for it. I'm not sure if it's sold separately though.
