Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

so i used some electical contact cleaner on the two contacts, dried with hairdrier, and reconnected with a click.
Leading evidence: 'Reconnect with a click' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Reconnect with a click' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

You are on the right track, more than likely it is a bad coil, but this easy test will confirm it.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

cleared codes, started up again and same two codes came back.
hello everyone,
so i have searched on this topic but would appreciate current information. my car '03 c4s, stock. 18K miles, florida car now in new england. i have put 6K on it myself with no troubles. car sat for 11 days in my garage while on vacation, thru a new england heat wave 95+. started it up today to warm it for oil change and once up to temp it began misfiring/running rough at low rpm. cel flashed then went steady and i got a bring for service indicator in display. limped home. read codes and got p0300 misfire detected, p0303 misfire cylinder 3. cleared codes, started up again and same two codes came back. bummer. came here for research. clearly there can be many reasons for these faults, but i was hoping for an easy one. appears a common failure is the coil packs. jacked it up, and took a look at #3 coil pack. nothing appeared to be cracked. bummer. i was going to swap #4 and #3 to see if fault followed coil pack, but #4 does not look real easy, and if the fault moves i need to take the failed one off anyway. new coil packs around $50, so should i just spring for a new one and try it? should i let it sit tonight and cross my fingers when i start it in the morning? should i use freeze spray on it to cool it and see if misfire stops? should i be more worried? help!
I had the same issue when I power washed the underside of the car.
It went away after car dried up.
Where you driving in the rain?, hit a big pool of water?, washed the car recently?
Why would not just swap #3 with #2 right next to it. You are on the right track, more than likely it is a bad coil, but this easy test will confirm it. If it does not change, then time for spark plugs.
hi - thanks for ideas. more info. i jacked up/removed tire and looked at #3 coil pack. i could not see any cracks or anything unusual. started this morning with no problem! went my 45 miles to work and perfect. started at the end of the day, still good! it had even started to rain. 45 miles back home in the pouring rain no problem. Stopped at the dry cleaners, started back up and misfire/misfire cylinder 3 p0300/p0030. bummer. limp a mile home. i guess swapping coil packs 3 and 2 are the cheap check. do i need to remove muffler?
thanks
While I'm not a big fan of just replacing things without good diagnostics I'd say in this case you'd be better off replacing the coil packs.
The car is 8+ years old and so are the coils and maybe the plugs too.
Even though the miles are low the car has spent considerable time in high humidity climes and this seems to cause coil packs to deteriorate quicker than a car that has spent time in drier climes.
If the plugs have not been changed if they are due on time (if not miles) I'd have the plugs replaced at the same time.
Sincerely,
Macster.
hello everyone,
so i had a few minutes to look at this issue. jacked it up, removed shield and looked for a few minutes. my 5mm hex, 3/8" drive socket to remove the coil pack bolts would only get a few out. on some it was too long. do i need a 1/4", 5mm hex to provide clearance? my standard 5mm L key fit, but that is not as easy to use.
went to pull #3 coil pack, and looked at the electrical connector to figure out how that comes off. coil pack appears whole with no discoloration or cracking visible. well i gave the connector a light push and off it came from the coilpack! what? there is a positive locking mechanism that must go click when the connection is thight, i think. so i used some electical contact cleaner on the two contacts, dried with hairdrier, and reconnected with a click. put it back together and started it up an no cel!! true test is tomorrow for the commute. i hope this was the problem.
