Because the spoiler is lower, it blocks the CHMSL on the rear deck, so the maker put another one (using factory CHMSL parts and connectors) under the upper wing.

In one of those threads I denied profusely the existence of a taco spoiler for cabrio's and the inability to use the factory taco spoiler on cabrio's.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So, here I am in Cleveland, Ohio for a week and I see this 2001 996 cabrio outside the restaurant. Fortuitously the owner walks out to his car as I am leaving. I quickly open a conversation about his unusual rear spoiler. The short of it is SOMEWHERE out there is an aftermarket builder who made one-piece fiberglass Taco (-like) spoilers for MK I cabriolets. Look closely at the pictures and you will see many special differences: 1. It is "squashed down" in order to allow the cabrio's metal toneau cover to clear when it goes up and back 2. The CHMSL is mounted on the top wing. Because the spoiler is lower, it blocks the CHMSL on the rear deck, so the maker put another one (using factory CHMSL parts and connectors) under the upper wing. The factory plug and wiring harness goes into the new unit and the old one does not work. 3. The upper wing has no provision for angle adjustment like the factory wing. 4. The air intake slats have no metal dividers, nor are there any slots for them. We searched inside and out but could not find the manufacturer or a part number (Porsche factory Taco spoilers have the part number and "Made in France" embossed into the 'glass on the underside on the right flat panel). Spoiler was on the car when he bought it in 2004. SO, for those looking for a Taco spoiler for their MK I, "The Truth is Out There." Oh, Krazy K, he has just crossed 100,000 miles. Never had any internal or external engine work. No oil leaks or drops on the ground. Completely unaware that he should be worried, and I didn't let on. Ignorance is bliss... Sorry for the CCPP's (Crappy Cell Phone Pix). And it was sunset. Hope this helps you Cabrio guys searching for the Holy Grail (-like) of MK I spoilers.

Yes, I remember the thread clearly, which is why I felt compelled to post these pictures. I searched a bit but couldn't remember if it was a stand alone thread or the one where the cabrio owner has a "floaty" feeling at high speeds. In one of those threads I denied profusely the existence of a taco spoiler for cabrio's and the inability to use the factory taco spoiler on cabrio's. Many cabrio owners have posted here since the beginning wondering if a taco spoiler was available for their car. So this is a little bit of YES for them. Just wish I knew who made it so I could give them the last part of their puzzle.

Yes that's a mystery to me too. It actually looks good on the white car to me.

POST 10Original post

A guy at my office has the same rear spoiler on his MK I 996 cab. He thought it was an OEM part, but it doesn't sound like it is...
