Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Other than that just look it over, check tire pressures and go unless I'm forgetting something obvious that y'all can remind me of.
Leading evidence: 'Check tire pressures and go unless i'm forgetting something obvious' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check tire pressures and go unless i'm forgetting something obvious' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I intend to obviously change the oil before I go, and thinking of flushing the coolant as well.

The real question is what can/should I expect to see on the temp gauge either running through NV in the daytime for hours on end and also if I get stuck in traffic in say, 100degree heat?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
Planning a road trip from CO back to CA this summer with my daughter. Taking I-80 to SF and then south to LA and back on I-15/I-70 most likely. This will be around the end of June.
Having bought the car in NJ and driving it here in the fall it has never ran sustained stretches in very high heat conditions for me.
I intend to obviously change the oil before I go, and thinking of flushing the coolant as well. Bumper is coming off to clean the rads. Other than that just look it over, check tire pressures and go unless I'm forgetting something obvious that y'all can remind me of.
The real question is what can/should I expect to see on the temp gauge either running through NV in the daytime for hours on end and also if I get stuck in traffic in say, 100degree heat? I felt/heard both the fans kick on the other day as I was idling in 80 degree temps for about 10 minutes and it reduced the temp to the left by a couple of millimeters which I would expect. Normally the needle is over the 0 in 180, this reduced it to the 8 in 180 so the fans do make a difference.
Any and all advice is welcome. I've done the trip in various other cars so not overly concerned, just don't want to be an idiot either. Thanks.
I can't think of anything else besides what you mentioned. I'd like to make a suggestion about your route: from SF to LA do try to take Hwy 1, the section from Monterey to San Luis Obispo. In the small town of Gorda there's a neat restaurant with ocean views, and really good fish and chips.
I've driven Boston to NYC in 90+ deg summer heat averaging 67mph on highway and some stretches of stop and go on secondary roads with no problems
As long as your fans work and coolant is fresh you're good
I've been stuck in crawling traffic several times in July when the temps were in the 90's. If your fans are working properly (hi and low), and your radiators are clean you have no worries. If you're moving and not crawling through traffic you won't even notice the temperature outside. The airflow across the radiators at speed is very effective at cooling things off.
