Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Just checked the two rears which are easy to get at and they click as you mention.

When I was adjusting front it was jacked up and no weight on suspension (hard to reach adjuster without removing wheel) - any chance that had anything to do with it ?
Leading evidence: 'Check two rears' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust front it was jacked up and no weight' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I know the simple thing is to check the other dampers but I didn't get around to it ...

You can change the front settings without needing to jack the car up, just turn the steering max right or left and the **** is reachable from there.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

I expected it to have detentes at each setting but it just seemed to have a smooth continuous adjustment range but with end stops (so I don't think the **** was just spinning).

Suggestion
Hopefully, the ball bearing is not lost, and it is jsut a matter of using the allen adjstment to increase the tension of the ball between the plates, as the upside down design of the adjuster on the fronts would make it a PITA to re-assemble in place correctly.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I bought a 996 C2 over the winter and was nut and bolting it this evening in prep for a track day this weekend.
The car has PSS10 coilovers installed and I tried turning the adjustment **** on one of the front dampers. I expected it to have detentes at each setting but it just seemed to have a smooth continuous adjustment range but with end stops (so I don't think the **** was just spinning).
Am new to these shocks - is that normal ? I read about people making adjustments in "clicks" so was surprised it was smooth.
I know the simple thing is to check the other dampers but I didn't get around to it ... Any insight ?
I have them on my car and the adjustment ***** do turn with a click. How old are the units. They come with a lifetime guarantee from Bilstein so you can send them in for repair.
Thanks - not sure on age - will need to check my notes. Just checked the two rears which are easy to get at and they click as you mention.

Check to see if the adjustment **** is flush and tight. It may be sitting a little high. On the PSS9's there is a little set screw on the side. i am assuming the same on the 10's. Just a thought.
The clicks are caused by a ball bearing rotating into detents as the **** is turned. If the mulipart **** adjuster was not installed correctly during installation, it will not click. Does not matter whether it is on a lift or on the ground, works and rotates the same. The fronts are quite a bit less distinct in their detents than the rears. Hopefully, the ball bearing is not lost, and it is jsut a matter of using the allen adjstment to increase the tension of the ball between the plates, as the upside down design of the adjuster on the fronts would make it a PITA to re-assemble in place correctly. Was the blue rubber protective cap still installed over the adjuster? They often get thrown away, but IMHO are smart to keep on as it keeps most grunge out of the adjuster so it operates better longer. IMHO, it is the weakest design point of the PSS9/10s. The installation manual with aclear parts breakdown is floating around the internet in various locations.
i would set them at each extreme and test drive the car. You would have an idea if the **** is actually changing the settings, then diagnose from there. You can change the front settings without needing to jack the car up, just turn the steering max right or left and the **** is reachable from there.
