I got my 99 with 13k miles on it and everything was so clean I had the dealer check the serial numbers just to make sure the engine was original.

everything looks well taken care of in there...possibly the owner removed the airbox and intake to clean the throttle body and sprayed all the parts removed with a protective cleaner.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The big black plastic box (I assume that whole contraption is the airbox) in the back of my used C2's engine appears to be brand new, along with some tubing and clamps, and maybe the oil fill neck. Other than getting hit in the rear, which it wasn't, what would cause the replacement of that stuff? Any ideas? Also, is it normal for there to be a thin film of oil inside the rim of that black plastic oval connector tube just to the left of the fan under the engine cover? Thanks for bearing with a novice.

POST 2Original post

everything looks well taken care of in there...possibly the owner removed the airbox and intake to clean the throttle body and sprayed all the parts removed with a protective cleaner. wipe the area down near the fan if it bothers you, and check it again in a 1000 miles (shouldn't be too dirty).

POST 3Original post

I apply meguiar's plastic protectant to all black plastic parts in my engine compartment, and things all look new. I just love a clean looking engine compartment.

POST 4Original post

POST 5Original post

What's the recall for? How can I tell if it impacts my 996?

POST 6Original post

I got my 99 with 13k miles on it and everything was so clean I had the dealer check the serial numbers just to make sure the engine was original. It was just well maintained.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the feedback. I'll be taking it to an authorized dealer for some service, and I'll ask about that oil film.

POST 10Original post

the film is probaly just engine dressing or silicone

POST 11Original post

If it arrived at the dealer, traded in, with a useless/detrimental K&N the dealer would normally have the good sense to put it back to OEM state, but quickly.

POST 12Original post

Previous owner had after market, then swapped back before sale ot trade in. Steve
