Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey Gang Simple little thing that makes the car look better. Over time the Shifter and Ebrake leather wears. As do other leather parts on our interiors. Instead of replacing things here is a way to freshen them up. I bought my leather dye from leatherworldtech.com for $24. There is plenty to even do my seats if I choose to do so (I Will). Remove your part. Scrub with Mr. Clean Magic Eraser I scuffed my stuff up with a scotchbright pad. Just lightly. Tape off parts you don't want dye on (although Mr. Clean removes over flow) Pat on the dye with a applicator pad Let it dry and then re-install. I have done this with the parts on my center console and my EBrake. The idea is to pat it on. You can use an airbrush if you have one. I just did not break mine out for this. I will for the seats. Hope this helps my fellow OCD peeps

POST 2Original post

What a great post! I think I am going to try it on my steering wheel, and E-brake. Fantastic post and results. DS

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If your steering wheel is not leather wrapped (mine is not) Magic Eraser took off ALL the gunk. I even did my dash etc. and it is like new.

POST 4Original post

Nice job. I need to do some work on my seats in particular, but I may start with my e-brake handle...

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

They have a Savannah dye as well

POST 6Original post

Good info on the magic eraser, will definitely try it out on the wheel (not leather wrapped, but thought the dye might take as well, nothing to lose, as it does not look great as it is). Looking forward to dyeing the e-brake and possibly the bolster on the seats. DS

POST 7Original post

Looks good. I was going to have my e-brake, steering wheel, and shifter recovered with Alcantra, but I might try that first. It can't hurt. Great Post.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

For the $$ it is worth a try.

POST 9Original post

I need Natural Brown Leather color... I think "cork" is the closest color they offer...

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Send their sales guys a note. I confirmed my choice with them and they got right back to me.

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 9718929

Your looks like gray. According to the chart, I selected code 993 for graphite. Was that the color you selected?

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I would have to look when I get home. But you may want to email them. They got right back to me because I was not sure which I needed.

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 9726812

Thanks for checking. I called them and a customer service rep said I may need the grey for a 944. I was just curious to see what code you ordered. He said he'd change it if necessary.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I looked up my order and it was D245. My factory code for the color is 944. Graphite Grey.

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 9719105

wait...you have a plastic steering wheel??????

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Doesn't feel like real leather But I guess it is.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just looked and it is stitched. It cleaned right up with the Magic Eraser. Now if the leather is work then the dye will work like a champ

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 9727004

Thank you very much for checking. Much appreciated. That's what I thought I needed after confirming 993 was wrong.

POST 20Original post

just be careful, magic eraser is actually fairly aggressive, as long as you dont rub too hard or for too long you should be ok though

POST 21Original post

Hey Tim, It's been 9 months since you did this job. How's the shifter re-dye holding up?

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 9719092

Great post. Thank you! You can dilute 50/50 woolite and water in a spray bottle. Then use a white bristle brush to clean your steering wheel. After wipe it down with a wet rag (water only); then dry rag and you're good to go. I do the same on my seats, but spray a rag with the solution, then wipe with clean wet rag (only water); then dry rag. My M3 (200,000+ miles): When I bought the car I thought the stitching was black. Notice how from the first picture to second how the leather went from super glossy, to a matte finish.

POST 23Original post

FYI, I did my steering wheel about two-three years ago as the graphite grey had almost turned blue from the dye rubbing off. I got an exact color match from a place in the UK. I think it was Dynamix (no connection). Patted on a few coats and it turned out perfectly.
