Hey, I'm not sure if this is standard on a PPI, but I got them to do check the engine rev history on mine - to see if there were any over-revs.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello new to the forum and have decided to buy my first porsche.
I have my eye on a nice clean 1999 911 Carrera. I have looked around locally and did not locate anything that i could afford that was in a condition that i wanted to buy. As I expanded my search I came acorss a 1911 down South in CA. I am going to schedule a PPI to be done by a local porsche shop prior to talking price. Everything I have read leads me to believe that this a fair price.
Based on the results of PPI report I will make the 8 hr drive to go take a look at it.
Car is listed for $19,500 OBO based on the condition it seems to be in the ballpark.

Thanks,
Looks like a good car. I like that it had the LN IMSB replaced. That is huge IMHO. Great options. Only thing is I couldnt live with SY but that is a personal thing. I would proceed with the PPI. That said, Im not totaly up to speed on the pricing so take it with a grain of salt.
Jeez, whats with all the 99's for sale everywhere? Somebody know something we dont? Is there a 14 year expiration date Porsche stamped on them?
I have a suspicion the owners have realized they will NOT be covered by the Porsche CA lawsuit.
I was thinking that with those miles and options, and with the retrofit IMS bearing, the car was priced a little low. If you want yellow and that PPI checks out, buy it!
Personally, I don't think it's a bad price. The car is very well optioned and it has had lots of work done, including the IMSB. Speed Yellow is a fairly unusual color and the black seats with deviated stitching and Porsche crests are even more unusual. I'll bet it's a beautiful car!
+1. I agree with Dennis, especially with the cost of doing the IMSB. Having that done is nice.
If the PPI checks out
and you like the car, it's a nice price.
As a willing buyer with cash in hand, I bet there's a bit of negotiating room. You won't remember a few dollars when you are driving the car a year from now.
Thanks everyone for the responses. I do indeed like the Yellow it was a big + for me and was the thing that motivated me into looking at a car that is 500 miles away from me. Once the PPI is complete and hopefully passes I think it will be a fun drive back from Ca to Oregon. Really looking forward to it.
After seeing the other '99 C2 people have posted this week in the $19k range; this car looks like a good buy. You could probably haggle the price down a little more too.
The upgraded interior is key on the 996. I have a base interior with some carbon trip, 4 post steering wheel, etc and it's.... well, better than a '99 Corvette's interior.
As a MY 99 owner, I think the price is decent even with 90k miles. I've owned mine since 2006 and still enjoy my Porsche ownership and it's reliability. Mine has 64k miles and I wouldn't part with mine for $18.5, so let us know if the PPI meets your expectations. GL
We need to get the "drive it every day! Miles of smiles!!!" and the "any amount you post I'm going to say "too high" if miles are above 50k" crowds into a cage match and sell tickets for charity
Hoping the PPI works out. Hey, I'm not sure if this is standard on a PPI, but I got them to do check the engine rev history on mine - to see if there were any over-revs. You may want to make sure the inspector can do that. Its not the end of the world if the car was red-lined, btw, it just means that the car was driven enthusiastically. If it was over-revved, that's something you want to know. There were posts on this previously.
It probably goes without saying but..pictures immediately after you get keys.
Over rev check should be part of all PPI's. There are two types: Type 1 which is soft over rev and nothing to really be concerned about unless there are numerous occurrences. Type 2's can signal a concern as this is something that can occur from things like money shifts.
Ha, yes!
I think the car is priced very well, especially for someone that's specifically looking for a Speed Yellow one. It's got some desirable options and the exact right upgrades, so I'd be all over it if I was in the market.
Also, I think miles just don't scare me any more. I'd rather have 90k miles on a well kept car than 40k miles on an abused one.
Did not end up buying the yellow 99, current owner heart was not in it. I think he really deep down did not want to ket it go.
I did however end up buying a real nice 99 locally all stock except for the wheels. 62k super clean with
New brakes, clutch, water pump and RMS. Cost me a few bucks more but it was only a 45 mile drive vrs a 500 mile one.
First of all, congrats, Andy, on purchasing a gorgeous looking '99. Can't go wrong with guards red. And the wheels look great!
I am the owner of the yellow 99 you were looking to purchase. And you are exactly right, I REALLY don't want to sell my car. I love it! But our new little one forces the sale at the moment. Family is more important. I'll be back into a 911 for sure once the time is right.
I appreciate all of the comments from everyone about the car. I think I have it priced fairly as well. If anyone is interested, let me know. It really isn't being driven much at the moment.
Andy, enjoy your "new" car. And thank you for all of your communication and patience while my wife and I had our child.
