Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've used both since many years having a pickup truck roll away on its own with me just putting the tranny in Park.

I also always set the parking brake in a car with an automatic transmission.

Then I started using the parking brake along with putting the tranny in Park or in the case of a manual tranny leaving the tranny in gear: 1st or 2nd or sometimes reverse.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Do u leave it in gear? Just parking break? Both?
All my cars I did parking break only, and now on even level ground it's putting it into 1st only..
Any pros/cons?
If the brakes are really hot (i.e. after a lap on the track), don't use the hand brake. The parking brake shoes can stick to the drum.
At least, that's what I've been told. I've never experienced it myself.
Story time:
Many years ago when an XK140 Jaguar OTS could be had for $275 I owned one. We had a driveway with a light slope. I always used the parking brake only.
One day, about 5 minutes after I parked and went inside, the kids from across the street excitedly came knocking on our door. "Frank your car just drove up the street and parked itself!!" "How did you make it do that on it's own?"
The car had rolled out of the driveway, made a 90 degree turn when it hit the road, rolled forward about 10 feet and parallel parked itself about 10" from the curb.
Ever since then if the car is standard shift I put it in gear and pull the brake.
I've used both since many years having a pickup truck roll away on its own with me just putting the tranny in Park.
One time I came out of a 7/11 store with my hands full of coffee and a donut only to see the truck slowly rolling backward down the lot towards a busy street. How I managed to get into the truck, stop it in time and not spill any coffee or drop my donut is beyond me.
The 2nd time I was in buying tools when a guy walked in the store and asked who owned that white Dodge pickup. I spoke up and we walked outside. My truck had rolled into his car. The damage was slight and frankly the dent my truck put into the guy's car improved its looks -- to say it was a beater would be generous -- but the guy was nice enough to refuse my offer to pay to have the dent fixed.
Then I started using the parking brake along with putting the tranny in Park or in the case of a manual tranny leaving the tranny in gear: 1st or 2nd or sometimes reverse.
+1
That's the way I was taught to drive and park a car, and I believe it's the best way (although I was taught to put it in reverse).
I also always set the parking brake in a car with an automatic transmission. I don't like the idea of the weight of the car being held by the transmission as opposed to the brake.
